Friday Night Photos Big White Bird Edition

Happy Friday everyone. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

When the temps start to drop and winter closes in the migratory birds head south for the winter. Many of them make Santee Lakes their home until they head back north in the spring. These American White Pelicans are the largest of all the species that spend their winter here. With warm water, plenty of fish, and lots of space to hang out, what more could a Pelican ask for.

Hi all, Hey SP!

Awesome White Pelican photos man! Outstanding! It is a big beast of a bird. One of the largest flying birds in North America. They are 5' long, with an 8' wingspan, and weigh around 16 lbs.! It is a lot of bird. Much larger than Brown Pelican. And big flocks migrate on thermals soaring with ease, migrating fairly long distances. They do not dive for prey like Brown Pelican (which is almost strictly a coastal bird), but cooperatively herd fish and dunk heads simultaneously. Like socialism. Wink Great photos of a great bird.

Hope this is not too trite, but couldn't stop myself... I like this live version.

It is a scale model replica of Biltmore House in Asheville.
The model is located in the conservatory. The wishing well
is to the lower right.

Well, if you want to get to know Pelicans your photos do it!

I thought the 1st photo was little bit rude ; ). And what's in the Pelicans mouth, a frog, a fish or a tongue?

From a walk on he beach this morning ...Sort of a water bird?

The Pohutakawa Tree in Bloom- otherwise known as the Christmas Tree ...

The Leek flower one week later. The sheath is still hanging on and fresh, while the flower cluster continues to open. I think Leek flowers would make great, long-lasting bouquets. They must be as strong as they are beautiful ...

The Pohutakawa is also a very tenacious tree that clings strongly to cliffs and weathers fierce exposure, which you can get an idea of from this photo ...

You’ve shown quite a few of them here through the years. You should frame them and sale them as a series at some art shows. I bet they would sale like hot cakes. I’ve never seen them elsewhere.

I think you're right, that they could be an interesting sequence of images.

I will be participating in a local exhibition in February. I have already chosen two images that I especially like and are reflective of the locale. I don't want to go to the expense of printing and framing more than those two.

these were all taken on my wife's phone thing. they are all too bit heavy to drag and post, so
have to email them to myself to shrink down. then 1/2 come out sideways, so have
to flip around to get pointed up. not impressed with the image loader on this site but it is
what we have.
