FBI investigation widens: Clinton Initiative and Terry McAuliffe Under Investigation

We've been waiting for the other shoe to drop. And when it does, will we even know for sure that the shoe is dropping?

Because this looks like a shoe dropping right now--

http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/23/politics/terry-mcauliffe-fbi-doj-federal-i...

The first thing that I thought when I saw this guy's name in headlines was: he's a Clintonista. Using the scandal that engulfed the prior R incumbent in VA as a tide, McAuliffe swept into office without too much of a stiff challenge. And it sounds like his campaign fundraising is not too dissimilar from Madame Clinton's style of fundraising:

As part of the probe, the officials said, investigators have scrutinized McAuliffe's time as a board member of the Clinton Global Initiative, a vehicle of the charitable foundation set up by former President Bill Clinton.

...

Among the McAuliffe donations that drew the interest of the investigators was $120,000 from a Chinese businessman, Wang Wenliang, through his U.S. businesses. Wang was previously delegate to China's National People's Congress, the country's ceremonial legislature.

Other reports are linking the DOJ to the investigation, but more info is needed.

http://dcist.com/2016/05/virginia_governor_terry_mcauliffe_u.php

McAuliffe was head of the DNC from 2001 to 2005, overseeing a tepid Congressional election strategy and the humiliating defeat of John Kerry by an unpopular and highly controversial Dubya re-election bid.

Even if these contributions are "legal", they deserve scrutiny. Do we really want wealthy green-card holders donating six figures to campaigns? Should elections be decided by money? Are the rules written in such a way as to make shitty and unethical behavior 'legal'?

Americans are increasingly vocal about their answers to these questions. Clintonistas have no valid response, and are weak on the corruption issue since they were at the head of the trough. Hiding behind the name of 'charity' will not be enough to boost Hillary's favorables.

to the Clintons is as dirty as they are. It would be nice if the whole lot got arrested but that will never happen with Obama in charge. Maybe we do want the GOP to get the WH. They'll investigate the hell out of the Dem Wall Street party.

These people are all so filthy we can smell them across the globe. I don't quite know what I think of Comey, he must be overwhelmed by the stench of being near these people. Karma would be if we could build a huge private prison in the lowest part of the US coast, and just wave as they are swallowed by the melted ice. Comey must be getting untold pressure. I'm still thinking about that Hunt piece that came out yesterday, I know things are connected, but don't quite get what part of the scam that was. It did say something about this "conflict" affecting her as President, OR EVEN as a candidate. The really odd thing was at the end, it said that Obama has had an administration with few ethical lapses. Until he got entangled with the Clintons like he is now. McAuliffe is said to have taken in $13 million from 120 other donors. Can you imagine just HOW many there are? I'll bet they're not feeling so good right now.

I guess to some people killing innocent bystanders by drone, not once but all the time, is not an ethical lapse. Lying as a candidate apparently doesn't qualify either. Nor does locking people up without fair trials, or sometime with no trials, people like whistle blowers or Guantanamo inmates. Pretending to be sympathetic to undocumented people, but breaking records for returning them to dangerous countries. Pretending to be against war while providing weapons and military personnel all over the world, leading us into endless war without ever asking approval. Pushing harmful trade agreements to benefit rich corporations. And on and on and on. He is not better than the Clintons, but just has a charming personality, like any good con man, that leads people to believe him, until they wake up.

the Republicans are hardly the ones who should be looked to for investigation. In addition to being totally lacking in any type of ethics, morals or patriotism the Republicans are just plain stupid. They constantly go after the Clinton's for bullshit made up allegations when there is an entire swamp filled with stinky, smelly bad shit they ignore

From the urban dictionary:
1. Exhausted
2. Sexually spent
3. Reprimanded
4. Broken / malfunctional

1. I was knackered when I got in from work.
2. After my seventh ejaculation I was well and truly knackered.
3. The teacher caught us smoking and now we're going to get really knackered.
4. I tried to fix my dad's PC but now it's more knackered than ever.

We elected President Obama in a wave election because we were tired of Bushes and Clintons and wanted to enter a new era with a different and new cast of characters. President Obama did himself a big disservice when he populated his White House with Clinton types like Rahm Emanuel and he robbed himself of a lot of his own legacy, future king making, and unhappily, respect.

I see Bill and Hillary and it's like turning on Saturday Night Live still featuring Joe Piscobo. These tired old self-serving war horses need to go out to pasture and enjoy their possibly ill-gotten gains without imposing on the rest of us anymore.

As to the Party itself, I can't even begin to describe how revealing in a very bad way this election cycle has been. They simply don't deserve anyone's support. I'd rather confront Republican legislative initiatives presented and passed by Republicans and not as bi-partisan centrist compromise introduced and carried by the corporate Democratic wing. If it's schism time - let it happen. Divorce is hard and stressful, but people do it because they know the days dawning on the other side will be filled with more potential even if presenting short-term hardships.

The effort on the Dem side still seems to be focused on demonizing and smearing Sanders and his supporters. Insanely stupid.

some, as I live very close to the Mexican border. The report from CNN said that Mr. Wang owns an American business, and holds an American green card. It is my understanding that a green card entitles its holder to permanent residence in the US. So, if a person owns an American company (if public, owns majority of shares), does that entitle that person to have permanent legal residence? And does "residence" require an actual physical presence? I find these questions to be important to this investigation. In these here parts, it's really difficult to get a green card. But if you can donate huge sums of cash to politicos, ve have vays? This smells really bad.

Today appears to be a bad news day for Clinton. She has declined a California debate she had previously agreed to, her cronies are under genuine (not GOP ginned up) investigation, her poll numbers are normalising to the position you would expect for such terrible negatives and she is spending today in L.A. grifting for cash with that asshole from CAA while Bernie is down the street drawing thousands to his rally in Santa Monica (which I can't go to even though it is only a couple of miles away, because work). Great visuals.

if an elderly woman is chubby/dumpy. It's not like she needs to portray herself as the [young and pretty] girl next door/next hot date or anything. But I do wonder why she insists on those butt-ugly 'designer' pantsuit jacket/tunics that flat out don't fit her. Does she believe the 3-D plaid or bizarre-colored fabrics hide her girth? Does she even notice that the last 20 pounds she gained has them straining at the boobs and/or belly and cinching at her upper arms? I thought she was going to pop a button in that MtP interview with Chuck Todd!

The guys - you know, those in the manly-man world of big league politiks - all wear dark business suits. Only color you ever see is in the tie. Why won't she wear nice dark pantsuits, fluffed with a colorful scarf or something? Dark is a whole lot more slimming than frickin' plaid, and she'd at least look like she's serious enough to play in the manly-man world of big league politiks. And just let me close with the observation (as a fashion/costume designer - something I trained for years to be) that gub-truck yellow is NOT a good color for her.

when, not if. So far he's actually been an OK Governor, but his history is bad.

Mother Jones had a damning profile about him a few years ago.

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/11/terry-mcauliffe-governor-vir...

Allow me to explain. McAuliffe represents an unseemly slice of Washington. His primary role in politics for the past two decades or more has been raising money—most notably, for the Clintons. He cooked up the idea of essentially renting out the Lincoln bedroom during the Clinton administration as a fundraising vehicle, and he smashed all previous presidential fundraising records in the process. When McAuliffe was the Dems' top fundraiser, a campaign finance scandal besieged the Clinton White House. Coincidence? No. McAuliffe was all about pushing the envelope when it came to the political money chase.

That alone might not be enough to render him a distasteful political candidate. What's different about McAuliffe is his brazen mixing of his campaign fundraising activity and attempts to enrich himself personally. Many of McAuliffe's business deals have come about due to his place in the political cosmos, not because he possesses a wealth of business skill. That tangled history has linked him to a long list of unsavory characters.

One other aspect of this is that, per the story, McAuliffe has a history of abusing his power with respect to journalists.

It reminds me a bit of a current controversy that has unfolded with Clinton's left hand, Neera Tanden, Joan Walsh at the Nation and a 20 something year old blogger who was fired from his job Friday from a liberal think tank and is currently being subjected to a harassment campaign from Clinton supporters and some right-wingers who have an axe to grind with him over his past writing.

Gawker reported on his firing this past weekend.

Clinton-world makes people of goodwill despair for humanity.

The one good part about a Clinton presidency is that the GOP House would have an incentive to unwind and investigate the Clinton Foundation. I think it's one thing to set up a foundation once a politician has left office for good. It's a different case for people who are still active in politics. It is not hard to envision serious conflicts of interest.

Here was what he publicly said during the 2008 campaign:

"“The Clintons get hundreds of requests for favors every week,” said Terry McAuliffe, the chairman of Mrs. Clinton’s presidential campaign. “Clearly, the people you’re going to do stuff for in the future are the people who have been there for you.”

Mr. McAuliffe, who knows of Mr. Band’s diligent scorekeeping, emphasized that “revenge is not what the Clintons are about.” The accounting is more about being practical, he said, adding, “You have to keep track of this.”

Mr. Band, who declined to comment, is hardly alone in tallying those considered to have crossed the former candidate or the former president in recent months by supporting Mr. Obama. As the Obama bandwagon has swelled, so have the lists of people Clinton loyalists regard as some variation of “ingrate,” “traitor” or “enemy,” according to the associates and campaign officials, who would speak only on condition of anonymity."
