The Evening Blues - Thanksgiving 2015
Submitted by joe shikspack on Thu, 11/26/2015 - 11:18am
Hey! Good Evening!
This evening's music features songs (very) loosely associated with Thanksgiving. Enjoy!
Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant
“Thanksgiving Day, a function which originated in New England two or three centuries ago when those people recognized that they really had something to be thankful for -- annually, not oftener -- if they had succeeded in exterminating their neighbors, the Indians, during the previous twelve months instead of getting exterminated by their neighbors, the Indians. Thanksgiving Day became a habit, for the reason that in the course of time, as the years drifted on, it was perceived that the exterminating had ceased to be mutual and was all on the white man's side, consequently on the Lord's side; hence it was proper to thank the Lord for it and extend the usual annual compliments.”-- Mark Twain

Heh!!
Hey Joe Hey Bluesters
On a short break from work, boys need a break too (12 hours is a long time to go without peeing).
Hope everyone is having a great day. Sure glad that I don't have to work tomorrow. After stuffing myself, I'll need a day to recover!

happy thanksgiving do and jb!
sounds like a positively scrumptious dinner! you guys are pretty adventurous eaters.
i ate a pretty traditional dinner today. our hosts had 2 kinds of turkey - baked and deep fried along with the usual sides of stuffing, mashed potatoes, creamed corn, cranberries, sauerkraut, etc.
tomorrow night, the kids and dogs will be back in town and we'll have yet another thanksgiving dinner - i guess we'll have to turn back the scales 20 pounds.
Happy Thanksgiving
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself. - Friedrich Nietzsche -
Thanksgiving day is coming to a close here

Happy Thanksgiving everyone
I want to talk about the circle of life.
We had our dinner at my aunt's house. My mom and her would take turns hosting it each year and when we had it at my aunt's house, my uncle's family would also come with his mother, uncle, aunt and grandma.
My grandparents and my 2 brothers would also be there.
Tonight I was reminded of the frailty of family, especially his grandmother. She must have been over 80, in poor health and very stooped.
My mother has been in poor health for the last few years and we weren't sure if she would be able to come tonight.
When they drove up and I saw how frail she was, it brought back the memories of the others that are no longer with us. Mom looked just like my uncle's grandmother. Old, frail and stooped.
There were many ghosts present yet absent tonight and when I first saw my mom it took everything I had to not start crying.
The ghosts that were present tonight were my uncle's parents, aunt and uncle, grandma, my grandparents and my brother
But we had those of us still living along with two precious children.
I'm not sure what I'm trying to say, except for maybe cherish every moment you have with your family. We never know how long they will be with us.
And since we always included our 4 legged friends, they too were absent, yet in my mind still present.
I am on my 3rd Beagle. If anyone knows anything about them then this funny story will make sense.
Years ago we we were eating our pie in the living room when one of my Beagles joined us with a whole stick of butter. Beagles go were ever they want if their nose is leading them. She had jumped onto the table and brought the stick of butter to eat while we were enjoying our pie
Tonight my aunt asked if we needed to hide the butter.
This may be my mom's last thanksgiving with us and I cherished every minute she was there.
And it might be Abby's last, too.
Hope you all had a wonderful time whatever you ended up doing.
But remember to cherish the time and moments you have with your friends and family.
Some very important thoughts here,
Thank you snoopydawg.
