My father just informed me he has COVID (again).
He says he just took his first dose of Paxlovid; I'm trying to recall if that's safe.
I've found this so far, I don't know if it's accurate or soft-pedaling:

my local apothecary carried it, but I had to get a script from a doc in FL, then a bunch of
arm twisting until my friend there unloosed the stuff. If it is now on the 'approved'
treatment schedule, you may get your doc to scribe it. Only did the treatment once a
year ago or so. Can't really say it helped, but didn't get worse. Good luck.

Daniel Ellsberg in this book Doomsday Machine pointed out that every setback the US sustained in the Vietnam war was accompanied by some additional commitment (can you say surge?) or introduction of new technology, or new weapons, that would ostensibly turn the tide in the war.

The reality is that as soon as the aircraft and their crews are committed to their mission assignments, they will be forced to choose profiles that optimally facilitate their mission or alternatively their survivability in a contested airspace. I think they will be rationed out rather than employed in combinations to maximize their longevity against Russian defenses because the Ukrainians are already complaining they don't have enough. Once again we see that the lack of a surge capability in providing weapon systems and crew will limit their impact. Therefore I expect highly provocative asymmetric tactics from the weaker power. This will risk escalating the conflict as Ukrainians deliberately undertake the most provocative strikes possible with their new weapon systems.

Ukraine war briefing: First F-16 fighter jets arrive – officials

Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway – all Nato members – have committed to providing Ukraine with more than 60 of the planes. The Russian jet fighter fleet is still estimated to be about 10 times larger, but has been kept at bay to some extent by Ukraine’s anti-aircraft defences.

Ukraine needs at least 130 F-16s to neutralise Russian air power, Ukrainian officials say. Much depends on having enough pilots, who are being trained by a coalition of countries including the US which has also agreed to arm Ukraine’s jets with advanced missiles and bombs.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said Russian forces have made gains in eastern Ukraine because Kyiv’s allies are restricting its use of western-supplied weapons and its forces are still awaiting arms deliveries from abroad. Russia consolidated gains in eastern Ukraine in July, taking control of almost 200 sq km (77 sq miles), according to analysis by Agence France-Presse using data from the US-based Institute for the Study of War (ISW). Zelenskiy said Kyiv was “working very hard” to get permission to strike targets deep inside Russian territory with western-supplied weapons. “Unfortunately, our partners are still afraid of this.”

Besides how many UN rulings has Israel just ignored?

But how many countries have cut total ties with Israel? Turkey's boss keeps saying that he will get tuff on Israel and yet he’s still supplying them with gas and oil…in other words the dawgs bark, but the caravan rolls on. And what happens to the relief ships from Russia and Turkey that were promised 8 months ago? Stills being loaded….?

There is more that the world can do to stop Israel so why isn’t it doing it? Words are meaningless without action.
