the size of Great Britain is now hurling a 600-mile-long dust cloud at Europe. Along with the dust, this hurricane-size thunderstorm is also bringing record temps of 100-plus degrees (F) to Europe.

Last night, a massive thunderstorm large enough to cover the England, Scotland and Ireland combined blew up over western Africa. The storm, larger than most hurricanes, drew in strong, hot winds from North Africa and the Sahara Desert. These winds bore upon them a great load of dust. Dust which the strong outflow of the storm then turned northward along a frontal boundary draped across the Mediterranean toward Europe.

As of early today, a large mass of dust with a front spanning approximately 600 miles covered sections of Mali, Algeria and Niger even as strong, hot southerly winds gathered to propel it northward. Over the next three days, this dust storm, or Haboob, is expected to rage across North Africa’s Algeria and Tunesia, leap the Mediterranean, roar across Central Italy, and vent its fury on the Balkan states and Poland before finally terminating in the Ukraine.

From its origin over Northwest Africa, to its termination over the Ukraine, this anomalous dust storm is predicted to travel more than 2,500 miles. The storm will be borne by hot southerly winds. Saharan winds, some could say. And those winds will bring with them not only the choking dusts of North Africa, but also a taste of its heat.

In Sofia, Bulgaria, temperatures are expected to hit 95 (F) degrees over the next few days. In Bucharest, Romania, the mercury is expected to top 96 by Saturday. Sections of central Bulgaria are likely to see readings as high as 104 (F) by Saturday. Athens, Greece may reach 102 F temperatures on Saturday and 100 degree (F) temperatures Sunday. Further up the Balkan Peninsula, Larissa’s forecast is for 107 degree F temperatures by Saturday. All are readings in ranges about 15-20 degree Fahrenheit above average for this European region during this time of year. Record to near record hot temperatures that have more in common with typical North African climates than those usually associated with Southern Europe.

I got a B&W shot (UV filter) of rising thunderclouds over a Dordogne valley today, where it has been unusually rainy for weeks.

Fever! Listening get to this for the first time. Luv it!

Friends, what would it take to get people to rise up and just say no?

The 1% is powerful because we agree that it is. What happens if many of disagree?

I think our struggle is as much an individual, internal one as it is a collective, outward struggle.

retirement, disability, welfare, and
other continuing income to a
general fund to support unpaid
strikers and their families for as
long as it takes to get the attention
of TPTB?

It's certainly do-able. The question
is: Is there the Will to do it?

As you wrote, it is as much - if not
more - a personal struggle as it is
a collective one.

Because the collective struggle will
not succeed if the personal does
not first.

(Oh, medical personnel, firefighters,
etc., but only 1/2 of cops, exempt
from the general strike provided
they engage in an unnecessary
work slow-down and contribute
at least 3/4 of their pay to the
general fund.)

The Senate Democrats are filibustering for gun control legislation to get a vote. Sen. Murphy (CT) has held the floor since around 9:15 (EDT) today. Here's the link: http://www.c-span.org/video/?411209-1/us-senate-democrats-take-floor-deb.... I've been listening for a couple of hours. They want a vote on background checks and will not yield the floor. I'll have to go home soon, so I won't know the outcome. Very interesting, though.

It would have - and will in future -
save far, far more many lives and
irrevocably wounded/injured people.

imho.

I live in one of those dirt-poor states
that chose not to participate in
Medicaid expansion - and I know
too many people with no health

New Mexico. Last in the nation on all fronts, except we do gave Medicaid, which was a surprise when our repuke governor agreed to take it. She's sorry now - wishes she could turn back that clock. We need single payer desperately, but they are loathe to improve the status of the 99%.

at a FishOutOfWater diary.
All I can say is, "Have people gotten dumber there?"

Some of the Hillbots came running to insult me and it was like I was debating angry 12 year olds with ADD.
It was so easy I had to take pity on them and help them with their insults. And getting them to understand a complex point was a waste of time.
GOS is now proof that if you get an infinite number of monkeys typing on typewriters you can still produce crap.

I read that diary and Armando was being the biggest shit as usual.
I take no pity on any of them. They are being willfully blind to what Hillary will do as president and who she will represent.
They insist that she isn't a warmonger even though there's plenty of evidence that shows that exactly what she is.
No matter how many links were put up that showed how she destroyed Libya, Honduras and Ukraine, they wouldn't even bother to read them.
And how many more diaries are they going to write about how naughty Bernie is being?

so what are you gonna do? They worship his gourd....and his shoe. And now they've transferred it over to Hills because she will be a continuation of his administration, which is about the slimiest campaign slogan I ever heard! She admits she offers nothing new, has no ideas of her own and somehow that's strong.

He not only ended the two wars that are still going, he hasn't started any new ones. This comment was made by a FPer.
I guess continuing PNAC's goals in the Middle East don't count as wars.
It's also okay for him to use drones that kill innocent civilians because no US troops are being killed.

It's my local (Ithaca, NY) station. No canned hours. And quite subversive. Keith Olbermann got his broadcast start on this station, doing sports announcing, lo these many years. I hears him then, lo these many years. He does an occasional ad stating that this station is part of his radio broadcast empire. Wink

Good for hippies, several DJs are over 60. Homies to me.

in the left column under "Alternative Media - Audio" do you think, rl?

Is the format mixed talk and music, or just music only?

I think, if it's just music, "Music for DFHs - and Everyone" might make a good header to list it under. ; )

I've seen you mention this radio station before. Maybe you could ask JtC to set up a link to it under some appropriate header in the left column so your suggestion isn't forgotten.

Capitalism Will Collapse Because Elites ‘Allow Poor to Rot,’ Tariq Ali Tells Chris Hedges (Video) -Posted on Jun 14, 2016 -By Chris Hedges[video:https://youtu.be/e8wW10risUo]

‘On Contact’ will feature conversations with activists, intellectuals and revolutionaries. As Hedges puts it, his show “will examine the effects of the endless wars, mounting inequality and the steady erosion of our civil liberties, and will give voice to those who offer radical solutions, including those proposed by anti-capitalists, and who have been shut out of the national debate by a corporatized press.”

“The constriction of acceptable opinion and debate has eroded the integrity of the press and contributed to the decay of our democracy,” Hedges said. ”This program will be a program where dissident voices will not only be amplified, but celebrated.”
...
Hedges was an outspoken critic of the Iraq War and criticized the media coverage at the time as “shameful cheerleading.”

He will join RT America's hosts Ed Schultz of ‘News with Ed,’ Larry King of 'Politicking' and 'Larry King Now' and Tyrel Ventura, Tabetha Wallace and Sean Stone of 'Watching the Hawks.'

No stranger to the channel, Hedges has often been a guest on the news and other RT America programs.

Enjoy (or weep) listening.

to list RT's "On Contact" (with Chris Hedges et al) on the "Blog Roll" list in the left column under a heading for "Alternative Media - Video" or some such.

This really isn't news that should get lost as a one-time mention in tonight's EB.

I vote for c99p promoting the show as well as you and it sounds like MarkfromQueens below.

Do you hear (read) us, JtC?

He's a pure progressive hero to me who, like his comrade Cornel West, really walks the walk. Both are intellectual titans who I'd put up against anybody in the lapdog MSM.

Thanks for passing this along mimi.

I was there with them on this day. They've been involved or spearheaded such courageous acts of civil disobedience many more times than I've ever done.

RT has shown some really amazing foresight, huh? Lee Camp, a comedian who has single-handedly had the fortitude to expose the election fraud of the 2016 Dem Primary, has been really risen to forge out a place for himself. And they picked up Ed Schultz and have had Thom Hartmann for some time - and Hedges? Wow, that's pretty impressive. Will watch online.

to get some order in the thousands and thousands of bits of information through all media outlets including the alternative ones, that anyone, who helps put them inorder and shakes out the fluff and keeps the important ones to easily to find either ordered by subject category or by the date they happened, needs to get our gratitude, help and encouragement to not give up doing so.
I can't recall having seen those you posted. Thank you.
