Biden to extend U.S. national emergency due to COVID-19 health risk Feb 18, 2022 Reuters

President Joe Biden said on Friday the U.S. national emergency declared in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be extended beyond March 1 due to the ongoing risk to public health posed by the coronavirus.

Biden said the deaths of more than 900,000 Americans from COVID-19 emphasized the need to respond to the pandemic with "the full capacity" of the federal government.

Former President Donald Trump had declared a national emergency almost two years ago to free up $50 billion in federal aid.

"There remains a need to continue this national emergency," Biden said in a letter on Friday to the speaker of the House of Representatives and the president of the Senate.

The letter was released by the White House.

The emergency would have been automatically terminated unless, within 90 days prior to the anniversary date of its declaration, the president sent a notice to the Congress stating it is to continue beyond the anniversary date.

Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, joins CNBC’s Hadley Gamble on a panel at Germany’s annual Munich Security Conference to discuss what action needs to be taken to bring an end to the pandemic.

It appears Bill lumps together in his mind an infection and a vaccination as being similar types of a physical event for a body. If he does not truly understand the difference, it is a bit scary.

Moderator: "Where would you access where we are today in beating COVID-19?"

Bill Gates: Sadly the virus itself, particularly the variant called Omicoron is a type of vaccine. That is it creates both B-cell and T cell immunity and it's one a better job of getting our to the world population than we have with the vaccine. If you do serum survey in African countries you get well over 80% of people have been exposed to the vaccine or two various variants. So you know what that does is it means the chance of severe disease, which is mainly associated with being elderly or having obesity or diabetes, Those risk are now dramatically reduced because of that infection exposure.

You know it is sad we didn't do a great job on therapeutics. You know only here two years in do we have good therapeutic vaccines. It took us two years to be in oversupply. Today there is more vaccines that the world demand for vaccines and you know that was not true. Next time we should try and make it instead of two years we should make it more like 6 months.

The World Loses Under Bill Gates’ Vaccine Colonialism May 19, 2021 Wired

Global health czar Bill Gates had other thoughts. Maintaining his steadfast commitment to intellectual property rights, Gates pushed for a plan that would permit companies to hold exclusive rights to lifesaving medicines, no matter how much they benefited from public funding. Given the enormous influence Gates has in the global public health world, his vision ultimately won out in the Covax program—which enshrines monopoly patent rights and relies on the charitable whims of rich countries and pharmaceutical giants to provide vaccines to most of the world.
...
Last October, recognizing that monopoly vaccine patents would be the norm and countries would have to compete against each other to purchase doses, a coalition of countries led by India and South Africa brought a patent waiver proposal to the World Trade Organization’s TRIPS (Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) council. As recently as a couple weeks ago, Bill Gates has continued to speak out against this proposal.

Gates’ argument about the TRIPS waiver—and the one being vociferously lobbied by pharmaceutical companies—is that waiving patent rights would not help poor countries scale up manufacturing and would instead eliminate incentives for future research.

Estimated 73% of US now immune to omicron: Is that enough? AP News February 17, 2022

Millions of individual Americans’ immune systems now recognize the virus and are primed to fight it off if they encounter omicron, or even another variant.

About half of eligible Americans have received booster shots, there have been nearly 80 million confirmed infections overall and many more infections have never been reported. One influential model uses those factors and others to estimate that 73% of Americans are, for now, immune to omicron, the dominant variant, and that could rise to 80% by mid-March.

This will prevent or shorten new illnesses in protected people and reduce the amount of virus circulating overall, likely tamping down new waves. Hospitals will get a break from overwhelmed ICUs, experts agree.

The coronavirus — the current variant or future ones that are sure to pop up — remains a dangerous germ. It is still infecting more than 130,000 Americans and killing more than 2,000 every day. Tens of millions of people remain vulnerable.
...
Still, while the population is better protected, many individuals are not. Even by the most optimistic estimates for population immunity, 80 million or so Americans are still vulnerable. That’s about the same as the total number of confirmed infections in the U.S. during the pandemic.

“The 26% who could still get omicron right now have to be very careful,” Mokdad said.

________

There is sentence study which is fairly interesting. It appears someone has been testing SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) in white-tailed deer.

Multiple spillovers from humans and onward transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in white-tailed deer Feb 8, 2022 PNAS (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences)

White-tailed deer, the predominant cervid in North America, are susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection, and experimentally infected fawns can transmit the virus. To test the hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 is circulating in deer, 283 retropharyngeal lymph node (RPLN) samples collected from 151 free-living and 132 captive deer in Iowa from April 2020 through January of 2021 were assayed for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA.
...
Concluding Comments and Future Directions.
White-tailed deer are the most abundant wild cervid species in the United States, with an estimated 25 million individuals, and deer hunting is the most popular form of hunting in the United States, contributing over $20 billion to the US GDP and supporting more than 300,000 jobs in 2016 (34). In addition to the abundance, social relevance, and economic importance of deer to the US economy, the discovery of sylvatic and enzootic transmission in a substantial fraction of free-living deer has important implications for the natural ecology and long-term persistence of SARS-CoV-2, including through spillover to other free-living or captive animals and potential for spillback to humans.

In this context, there are several important questions that require urgent attention. For instance, it is important to understand whether the observed widespread SARS-CoV-2 infection and transmission among white-tailed deer will result in virus adaptation to cervids similar to what has been observed in other species such as the mustelids. Previously, a high similarity in the white-tailed deer ACE-2 sequence was shown relative to human ACE-2, and the changes within the domains that bind the SARS-CoV-2 Spike protein are at residues D30E, L79M, M82T, and E329D (5, 35). Therefore, it is not altogether surprising that the deer ACE-2 receptors enable efficient binding by the Spike protein for viral entry, perhaps even slightly better than humans (35), that will allow the highly efficient transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in deer. Hence, it is tempting to predict that, unlike the observed rapid adaptions in Spike in mustelids with a restricted ACE-2 receptor, any adaptations of SARS-CoV-2 in deer during the initial waves of infection are more likely to occur in regions outside of the Spike protein.

US anti-Asian violence spiked during the pandemic February 18, 2022 Asia Times

My collaborators and I looked more specifically at violent attacks against Asian Americans or their property from 1990 to 2021. In the 30 years before the pandemic, we identified public reports of 210 anti-Asian violent attacks in total, an average of 8.1 per year. But during 2020 and 2021, there were 163 attacks, averaging out to 81.5 a year – or more than 11 times the previous average.
...
Our data found that before 2020, the average number of Asian Americans killed or injured in anti-Asian attacks was just over eight per year. In 2020 and 2021, however, 49 were physically harmed, an average of almost 25 per year.

We found that almost half of the anti-Asian attacks in 2020 and 2021 were motivated, at least partially, by anger and animosity associated with Covid-19, a disease first identified in Asia. For instance, in June 2020, an Asian restaurant in New Jersey was vandalized with graffiti reading “coronavirus” and “Covid-19.” And in February 2021, Denny Kim, a 27-year-old Korean American veteran of the USAir Force, was beaten by two men who shouted anti-Asian slurs at him and called him “Chinese virus.”
...
Most anti-Asian violence, both before and during the pandemic, happened in urban and suburban areas in typically progressive states.

Trudeau’s minority government needs the support of at least one of the major opposition parties in a vote next week to endorse its invocation of the Emergencies Act, which gives the government extraordinary and time-limited powers.

The Conservatives and Bloc Québécois have both said they will vote against the government, leaving the NDP as the Liberal minority’s only potential partner. So far, Singh has indicated that his party will support the government action, but that could change as the events of the weekend unfold.

The truckers are pro death because they want their freedoms back? Does Ian and the others who think that understand that most of the truckers have been jabbed, but see the power grab by governments as bad? I find it sad how badly misinformed so many people are. Hopefully one day the truth about early treatments will be acknowledged. Then people will see who was actually research for massive deaths.

And who in hell would write this?

No wonder governments continue to take away our rights. It seems that more people are saying that they have nothing to hide so why do they care if their governments spy on them? The founders aren’t rolling in their graves anymore, they’ve up and left them.

@snoopydawg , I understood his point to be that the truckers (along with many governments) were advocating to abandon all measures that might mitigate the spread of the virus. I don't equate that with the concept of 'freedom'. I wish others wouldn't either. I think that is a mistake.

That Washington Post article is absurd as you point out. Saying that the concept of 'Freedom' is proof that one is a White-supremacist? Tell that to Thomas Paine who was a proponent of individual freedom but very much against slavery or inequality.

Ian Welch is a Canadian. I often find his opinions well argued and compelling. I'm interested in what Canadians are saying. I, however, don't categorize the truckers as pro-death.

I simply noted that the latter interpretation is, in the context of the truckers' demonstration and goals, equivalent to condemning allowing people to choose their approach. Not trying to score points, just expressing a concern that somebody would go to such rhetorical lengths to support vaccine mandates or otherwise oppose freedom of choice.

@randtntx because of this quote

I want to have zero Covid deaths so I use the one drug that has shown the best results around the globe. It is called Ivermectin. It shows better results than any other pharmacological agent. I would argue that based on his statement, if you do not approve of Chinas highly effective non pharmacological Covid containment strategies, or the use of Ivermectin, then you are Pro death.

@wouldsman , of aiming for a goal of zero-Covid. Judging by the actions of our Public Health system, we have never had that as our goal in this country despite "mandates". @randtntx the period of the highly infectious Omicron to want "zero Covid"? Is Welsh in favor of the draconian China approach of shutting down cities of millions for months, or the heavy policing of NZ and AUS? More emergency measures like CAN? What is his example for the best approach?

My impression is most experts on all sides are in agreement that Covid is here to stay, that trying to eradicate it at this stage is a fool's errand and would cause more harm than not.

@wokkamile . Who says? The Western governments? I did read that the Western governments are advocating for the Chinese to abandon the zero Covid policy. Why is that I wonder. Does it make us look bad as we approach one million deaths?

I can only judge from what I have read and the Chinese policy appears to be much more successful than ours. The Chinese seem to have been able to open their society to closer than normal functioning than we have. They seem to have protected their population from the astronomical death toll that we have inflicted on our people. They appear to have accomplished this by being proactive from the very beginning. It seems to me they have 'thrown everything but the kitchen sink' at this problem. We have not. And yes, I would like a functioning public health system in this country so that we could effectively tackle this problem. Instead we throw up our arms and act like we can't do anything.

It seems to me that TPTB in this country are very happy to open up our society to function 'normally' without trying to protect the people with even the simplest of measures. Death and disease, as we have seen in the past two years is good for a certain sector of the economy. I think citizens should be careful what they ask for. If we ask for nothing (going back to normal) we will certainly get nothing. Now I hear that employers want to send people to work even when they are sick and test positive for the virus (Even Nurses). The people here are cheering this kind of an approach. Why? I don't think the Chinese send people back to work while they are sick. To do that seems pro-death, perhaps that is what Ian Welch meant?

Around the world, government officials have been saying things like "the unvaccinated are no longer citizens of our country!" They are deliberately working to demonize portions of their populace, to turn people against people, in an effort to shut them up and stomp out any dissidence.

It's unlikely that this will stop with the Covid situation. The same strategy will be used to marginalize and quash any pushback for anything that goes against what they want.

If you do a little research, you'll discover that many of these government officials are connected to the World Economic Forum.

Quick example: Italy's Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, recently stated that "The unvaccinated are not part of our society."
Mario Draghi is a member of the WEF.

This is why I wrote the essay on the great reset. Sadly only 5 people thought it was worth reading. Oh well we can’t say that we weren’t warned. The thing is that what’s happening in Canada with freezing bank accounts can happen here any time a president wants to enact it since congress passed the patriot act and Obama rescinded habeas corpus. We can be arrested and locked up indefinitely without access to a lawyer or have a trial on our guilt at the president’s whim.

when they took over for the nurses who were fired because they didn’t want to get jabbed there are truckers who are delivering medical supplies in Canada who don’t have to be. Make it make sense!

Unvaccinated truckers bringing COVID-19 vaccines and medical devices into Canada to combat the pandemic are exempt from testing and quarantine requirements at the border, a government order says.

The exemption is due to the “urgent public health necessity” of the supplies they are transporting, Health Canada states.

The government has given exemptions from testing and quarantine rules for certain people crossing the border into Canada to help tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

They include unvaccinated and vaccinated people invited by the health minister to help with the COVID-19 “response.”

A spokeswoman for Health Canada said in a statement that this exemption requires a ministerial invitation and had been “rarely used.” She said it had been used, for example, to help with the supply of ventilators.

The exemption is one of a number set out in an order-in-council published last month that outlines decisions made by cabinet, such as regulations or appointments.

Drivers dropping off students on either side of the U.S.-Canada border at a college, school or university are also exempt from quarantine and testing requirements, the order says.

The order makes clear that unvaccinated truckers are not exempt from the testing and quarantine requirement in other circumstances. They must obtain a pre-arrival COVID-19 test, quarantine and undergo COVID-19 molecular testing in Canada.

The restrictions on unvaccinated cross-border truckers have caused much political debate in Canada and are ostensibly a major sticking point for the protesters camped outside Parliament Hill.

But the order reveals that unvaccinated truckers can avoid the border requirements if they are transporting medical supplies, including products with a drug identification number, such as medications and vaccines authorized for use in Canada.

“The purpose of this amendment is to clarify that those involved in commercial transport who are transporting medically necessary supplies remain exempt from the vaccination requirement to enter Canada,” Health Canada said in a statement.

Yeah and so? Explain how that makes any sense at all when they say that they are dealing with an epidemic! It pure nonsense. IMO.

morphed into COVID derangement syndrome...at least in my group of friends. Those that bought Russiagate are buying the Falsie narrative now.

As to IVM, HCQ, Vitamins, and so on... I'm not asking others to think they work. I try to present evidence, but leave it to them to come to their own conclusions. Why do they try to convince me these treatments don't work?

Kinda like the jabs. You want repeated jabs...hey that's up to you, but don't ask me. My double dose was more than enough. And I feel I wasn't well informed prior to getting them.

I rarely respond, but I felt the need this AM. Enjoy your day and give Sam a pet for us.

disbelief. Biden as a savior? I don't disagree with you, Snoop, at all, I disagree with the main-stream never-really-pay-attention center-left. Biden's a sh$t dem. He was when I was 9, he is still now that I'm 59. And we all know it. We've got all kinds of proof in his own words from when he was younger. But now he's some kinda dementia-addled savior for them? From what? Bernie could have saved us much better...
