Do you get back up?
One time in grade school a bully beat me up, again. I shouldn''t say one time, it happened a lot. I got beat up by kids who were shorter than me.
Eventually the message of "hit him back" got through to me. So I did. I punched Bruce right in the face, and knocked him literally off the ground and on his ass. 4th grade.
I had a career in the golf course business, went to Rutgers to study Golf Turf Management. My career went sideways and I walked away, from something I love. 13 years, 7 as an Assistant Superintendent. I gave up.
In 2013, I was 55 eas old, unemployed, living with my parents in CT. I got a job at a golf course. I was promoted from crew member to Assistant in Training after 6 weeks, after 2 seasons I got a new job in NY, 2nd Assistant Superintendent.
You see a Golf Course Superintendent with my Rutgers education makes an average of 86k a year, while the generic BA golf course Super makes 85k. Why on earth did I give up? Anyway I learned a lesson and moved on. No regrets.
This winter I will be getting some attention for Superintendent's positions here in the north east. At my age of 58 I have spent the last 3 years competing against younger men, and generally outperforming them. I have to, i will never get another chance. I want to be a Golf Course Superintendent.
I am swinging for the fences.
Nothing ever worth doing is worth doing half way. If you want to accomplish something truly great, then you must plan on truly great inputs. Have no regrets, give it more than your all. And every damn time you get knocked down, not only do you get back up, you do so as fast as possible. You must inspire other to join you, inspire them to exert maximum effort, inspire them to not give up. in October 1967 my parents took me to see Bobby Kennedy in a college gym in upstate New York. He told us we would do something great.
Nothing worth accomplishing gets done easily. Accomplishing something awesome requires no less than awesome effort. It requires blazing new trails, not just thinking outside the box, it requires building a new box, so when your done, you're the only one standing outside the box.
So when the family and neighbors are hanging out together on the front porch in 2036, and a kid from next door asks me, Mr Fox, what did you do in the political revolution?
Well son, I'll tell you, it was tuff then, many of us had no jobs. But then one man stood up and called for a political revolution. So my friends and I joined up. All over the country millions joined us.
Then what happened?
We kicked the 1%'s rear end.
Why?
Because we never gave up.
Did you know Bernie?
Nah, never met the man.

Excellent post!
I ended up working every single day phone banking for Bernie, except when the primaries moved to Kentucky, when I canvassed door to door. I was tired after DC and thought I might be done. I continue to wait to see what happens at the convention.
But I have gotten some rest and decided I am not done. If Bern runs as an independent, and possibly if he does not but we have another viable candidate, I will work for that third party. It will be time to get back up. I don't want a spoiler, I want an independent win. Someone like Bern can take most of the Indies, almost half the Dems, and peel off significant Repub support from the Trump monster. If Bern isn't the Dem nom, let's do this. Let Bern peel away anti-estab Repubs while Hill peels away conservative Repubs. Kill the Republican party. Replace it with Progressives versus ConservaDems for the future.

Whatever Bernie does, runs or not, I'm not done
I will not stand down.

Thanks for this.
A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.
Great story, Roger.
Never give up! You will make it to Golf Course Superintendent - steady as she goes. I can't wait to talk about my role in the start of the revolution, too. These websites are going to be part of the historical record. I also journal to keep a record for the generations to follow me.

I'm trying to keep a record, too, RA.
It's really very rare to know that you are living a significant moment in history. But that's where we are now.
This, too, shall NOT pass. It's going to leave a mark
I remember your story.
I think it was just before you re-entered the golf business with an entry-level job.
Now you are just about to get what you want after a couple of years of hard work and ambition.
Clearly you are.
Booby Kennedy told us we would
do something great.
Bernie told us if we come together there is nothing we can not do.
