Do Not Mourn The Democratic Party, For It is Too Our Enemy
The Democratic party presents itself as the institution through which the left can negotiate with power. In turn, the Democratic party is the institution through which power negotiates with the left. It is thus the shield and barrier that protects the elite from the left.
The Democratic party is the armored blue hull on the American ship of state. It "negotiates" with the left in the same way that a battleship's prow "negotiates" with the ocean on behalf of the red engines and the gleaming white decks.
The hull on the ship has been breached. For the first time in half a century, the capitalist engine and racist structure of the ship are exposed to the elements. Yet now people demand we repair the hull!
This nonsense must stop. One class enemy has been breached. No further energy should be spent on the Democratic party than is necessary to finish the job - to drown all of the life out of it so it can no longer betray us.
With the engines of the ship of state exposed, fire will spread and many will get burned. There is no guarantee of victory. But hope emerges in a real, tangible way, for as we are less protected from direct exposure to the evil fire that propels this ship, it is also less protected from us.
We face our enemies in the open. Let's stop trying to reinvigorate institutions that always choose complicity over community. Let's not reinvigorate class traitors. I welcome 10 enemies who declare their hatred of me over a single traitor in my midst sapping my allegiance.
Drown the Democratic party.
Assault the Republican party.
Liberate the people.
Let us banish the evil vehicle they compose beneath the waves and swim forward to a new future, with free minds and purpose.

Down with the duopoly!
Amen chipmo. Can't say it enough as I said last night, the Dem party is the "establishment", the opposition, or if we want to go that far, the enemy in this class war we're waging. Many want to straddle the fence, one foot in the party, one foot out. Complaining about who they appoint for party leader like it really matters. It doesn't.
There are a lot of people that are going to invest their time trying to change the dem party but it won't work and they in effect will be playing on the wrong team. And as you said, trying to play both sides is actually more detrimental to a real independent working class movement than the republicans because it steers activism into the dead end democratic party agenda, exactly what Bernie Sanders attempted to do, and is still doing with the People's Revolution and whatever else they've got going.
Like with Clinton, those supporting the Dem party are supporting neverending war and Wall Street crimes.
I'm complaining about Chuck Schumer cause he's a fucking
schmuck, but otherwise in total agreement with you.
Whatever that is, it isn't a people's revolution of any kind.

We've taken the first step
as the cult has been turned back, the next step will be harder, for destroying the system always is.

What scares me most right now is how many people
that I respect and like are stuck in the old ways of thinking--to the point of falling for some really obvious and ridiculous propaganda.
A dear friend actually dropped a comment about Russia messing around with our elections. (!)

It's beyond scary
the media's power is greater than I thought, it's almost Goebbell like and I'm not sure using the word "almost"

You're not alone in this.
And it's frightening.
chipmo, you have, I presume --
read Lance Selfa's book on this topic?
The ruling classes need an extra party to make the rest of us feel as if we participate in democracy. That's what the Democrats are for. They make the US more durable than the Soviet Union was.
Cass, I have not
but I will check it out. Thank you.
Fuck Trump
Fuck Hillary
Fuck the whole duopoly!
Agree
it's all one party and none of us are invited.
I don't mourn either party, they both can die a horrible death. Just as long as it's not a slow death.

Most excellent post. So the question.
.
So the question. Is Bernie as leader of the failed rebellion asking his supporters to remain in the democratic party under the same elected and DNC bureaucracy with the hope of reforming the party?
...So the question. Is Bernie
Indications are, I'd think, not: Bernie went back to being an Indie and plans to use his position to help people exert pressure on those whose office exists to represent them and to bring those into public office who are 'of, by and for the people' - including themselves, where feasible - so as to ensure that the public interest is represented, rather than those of big funders and TPTB - which shouldn't be at all.
Bernie, however, will not do this through 'Our Revolution', which was registered as something no Senate member could be involved in, possibly providing a reason for him to not be involved in it possibly since it might have been co-opted?
And if Bernie can't achieve a public good one way, he tries another.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.
Deja vu, all over again
In the 60*s and the 70*s the New Left movement hated the Demoncratic Party. They were seen as sell-outs to basic liberal ideas. At least Republican actions were consistent with their ideology. The bottom line is that we hated the Democrats and the Republicans but especially despised the Democrats. The party is now clogged with ambitious protectors of their elite status who wear the Liberal label only a a place to go. Hillary is a perfectly good example, she dropped the Republican party affiliation at Wellesley when she realized that all of the action was on the Left in opposing the war. She never looked back and never for a moment understood that the basic philosophy of the Left is economic justice and peace. It's almost amusing to see Demoncrats writhe in agony over the defeat of their beloved Hillary. OK, that feeling has passed, now lets get to work.
Capitalism has always been the rule of the people by the oligarchs. You only have two choices, eliminate them or restrict their power.
I agree.
Like I've said to many friends, I didn't cry on Wednesday morning a couple weeks ago. No "we" I was part of lost to Trump.
