DNC tightens the screws for future debates

What was that? Oh yeah, lefty loosy, righty tighty. ( you do know we have at least 1 if not 2 generations that doesn't know what counter-clockwise means?)

DNC makes it more difficult to qualify for 3rd debate

ABC News, in partnership with Univision, will host the third Democratic presidential debate in September, the Democratic National Committee announced Wednesday, saying it was raising both the polling and fundraising bars for candidates to qualify.

The debate is set for Sept. 12 and could extend to a second night, Sept. 13, if enough candidates meet the threshold to participate. The location and moderators have not yet been announced.

snip

Unlike the first and second rounds of debates, when candidates must cross either a donor or polling threshold to qualify, candidates will need to surpass both bars to make the stage for the third and fourth debates. For the September event, candidates will have to hit 2 percent in four qualifying polls, versus 1 percent in three polls for the first debates, and they will need 130,000 individual donors, up from 65,000.

Although the polling threshold increase is modest, it could represent a significant barrier for many candidates who have struggled to hit that mark in early polling.

So, the June Debate is actually 2 so the Sept Debate is 3 or maybe 3 and 4? This English Major is confused by math. So if the First Debate happens over 2 nights that's actually Debates 1 and 2? Someone tell Biden he only lottery qualified for Debate 2...

Oh yeah, lefty loosy, righty tighty.

Or "lefty tighty righty loosey" in the case of certain propane fittings.....

( you do know we have at least 1 if not 2 generations that doesn't know what counter-clockwise means?)

That's widdershins to you! (With deosil being the other direction!) Smile

Seriously, the lack of ability to read analog dials is just like the ability to read anything else -- disappearing from American curricula (gak!).

So we're now talking about propane tanks? Millennials are big time grillers and are confused by wood screws? They ain't having babies based on reports. Confusion?

Always coat the connection on the tank with dish soap so one can determine if there is a leak...

Also, what the hell is widdershins and deosil? My Google is tired and can't look it up. Heh!

You are my brother. But, yet, you always can confuse me. Which is why I appreciate you so much.

@EdMass @EdMass = counterclockwise,
going in a circle to the left. The "wrong" way. Left is sinister, you know.

Deosil = turning to the right. The "right" way. Right?

@EdMass Considering It's looking like I'm going to be connecting up a couple gas burners in the next couple days. Stuff I didn't know, and wish I had a mentor to point out. Unfortunately, I can't afford fifty bucks an hour plus lunch to get a class in forge building, so reading multiple manuals before beginning,

I still think Dexter and Sinister, but I blame a teen interest in Heraldry for that one. (Hey, part of interest in military history is learning unit insignia and how to define that in the written form.) The past does seem to be a foreign nation these days for those who never bother to learn the language.

And the world seems intent on prosecuting people for living in other countries.

Good Tip on the Propane... Considering It's looking like I'm going to be connecting up a couple gas burners in the next couple days. Stuff I didn't know, and wish I had a mentor to point out. Unfortunately, I can't afford fifty bucks an hour plus lunch to get a class in forge building, so reading multiple manuals before beginning,

Another tip, from many years of propane rigging: Use the Acme tank connector fittings. They're simple and reliable, they loosen and tighten in standard directions (right-hand thread, righty tighty lefty loosey) and tools are never required to connect or remove a tank. The older POL fittings are a royal pain in the ass; they're left-hand path thread, and leak like sieves if you don't get them exactly right. (Hence EdMass's suggestion.) All propane tanks legally permitted to be refilled are fitted with OFP valves which accept Acme connections. If your burners are equipped with POL fittings, definitely get them changed over. It'll be worth it in spared headaches alone. one source

My humble opinion, anyway. Smile

The confusing part of Heraldic jargon (and jargon is an Heraldic term originally) is that Dexter and Sinister, Right and Left, are from the viewpoint of the armiger, not the viewer.

And the world seems intent on prosecuting people for living in other countries.

Or this country, for that matter! Bad

Also, what the hell is widdershins and deosil? My Google is tired and can't look it up. Heh!

Widdershins == counter-clockwise. Deosil == clockwise. Old Anglo-Saxon terms used by modern Neo-Pagans to describe the movements of Circles of people. Usage increasing due to increasing predominance of digital clocks and corresponding disappearance of analog clocks, which are now more expensive and harder to make. (!)

So we're now talking about propane tanks? Millennials are big time grillers and are confused by wood screws? They ain't having babies based on reports. Confusion?

Always coat the connection on the tank with dish soap so one can determine if there is a leak...

Few Millennials have ever had to deal with the left hand threaded POL fittings that used to be the only way to connect to a propane tank. Today's grills use Acme connectors, which are right-hand threaded (righty tighty, lefty loosie).

You are my brother. But, yet, you always can confuse me. Which is why I appreciate you so much.

The DNC company wants to control the outcome. Throw 50 challengers out on the floor, take their money, then fool the public into believing this a democratic process (not). The commercial revenues alone could feed the poor of our nation for about a month. Move the goal posts...

Dog and pony show.

with the DNC raising the debate barrier for the 3d round of debates.

23 or 24 candidates so far, but I haven't checked today for an update. Of these, 3 have made a positive to very positive impression with me. Another 4-5 I might consider if they make it to the general. That's being optimistic. The rest -- either the usual grab bag of drab corporate centrists or the usual very local types trying to make a name for themselves on the big stage.

Nah, I just don't think I 'll be missing much not seeing a Hoopenlicker or Rep Ryan (?) or Rep Swallowell or even the underachieving and unpopular Mayor DeBlasio on the debate stage come Sept. And I'm sure I'm forgetting a few other mayors and one-issue reps on the current list, whose reasons for running are obscure. I don't need to see all 24 in debate all the way through the fall. If they can't scratch together 130k donors from the available pool in the tens of millions, and can't manage a whopping 2% in the polls by late Aug, sorry.

I have a hard time caring. No anti-establishment candidate is going to win in the establishment debates or the establishment polls. They aren't going to be lauded in the establishment media and their supporters will not get a fair shot at voting for them in the establishment elections. That's just how it is.

I figure if a candidate like Sanders or Gabbard is going to win then it's going to happen door-to-door with volunteers not on the boob tube.

@SnappleBC that is the DNC is just confirming that they will bury us in irrelevancies, as many of us have been saying. Neither Bernie nor Tulsi will ever see a level playing field, if the dems own it. They need to take it to the streets (as Bernie has been), *keep* it in the streets, and publicize every bit of ratfucking to high heaven (which Bernie just won't do, for whatever reason).

Consequently, I fully expect 4 more years of the Cheeto, or Pence if the Cheeto finally strokes out. All the dems know how to do anymore is take people's money and lose, so I expect them to excel at it as always.

I know that I'm going to have to vote Green. I'm about at the point at which I say "Wake me in 2021".
