The CURRENT latest BIG LIE

IS that the police nation wide need to be rethinking things....

The big lie is that this is about race... the violence...

The big lie from THAT is that this is about the cops vs. non-cops.... the violence

BOTH ARE BIG LIES DESIGNED TO obfuscate that the struggle is EXACTLY what Bernie pointed out:

THE 99% OPPRESSED BY THE 1%.

Interestingly enough, the first nation to get it is Indonesia.

Go figure.

one of the most horrific political slaughters took place and a president, Sukarno, emerged and, no surprise, he was very friendly to the USA and very receptive to "investment" from American financial interests. I doubt the people of Indonesia have forgotten although it may not pertain to this.

When Bloomberg was mayor of NYC he referred to the NYPD as "my army." I think that police departments as protectors of the over-privileged as one of their main jobs is overlooked and under reported.

was the president deposed in 1967. Replaced by Suharto. The latter the US-friendly general you reference. Identified by Transparency International in 2004 as the most financially corrupt leader in modern history—to that point—having thieved for himself an estimated $15–35 billion during his 31-year reign.

I was a twenty year-old Marine when we were sent aboard the carrier USS Philippine Sea and sailed to the South China Sea to support Sukarno. None of us enlisted men had a clue as to what was going on or who Sukarno was. We were just told we would be deployed if necessary. I remember vividly coming on deck one morning and seeing us surrounded by cruisers and their escort destroyers from the Seventh Fleet. That's when I knew something serious was happening. Nothing has changed. Our psychopaths still abet their psychopaths whenever we get the chance.

Quick post with a few thoughts because I'm out the door...

First off, history is just rife with stories of the police conducting extrajudicial killings, slaughtering union protests (i.e. the Ludlow Massacre), using paramilitary force and deputizing local thugs.

Where do these clowns go when they retire? To work "security" at Goldman Sachs and for people like Donald Trump or land in cush jobs doled about by their corporate masters for their on-call protection while they were in uniform.

Here's a bit on our current NYPD Commissoner. a href="http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2014/12/bratton-de-blasio-after-kil...">"After the Killings, Bill de Blasio and Bill Bratton Now Have the Most Critical Relationship in New York"

When Bratton was a young beat cop in Boston, he policed civil-rights and antiwar demonstrations in which de Blasio could have easily been a protester. (“No, I would have noticed him, he’s so tall,” Bratton says with a laugh.) These days, Bratton spends his off-duty time with one-percenters who he says disdain the mayor; de Blasio’s downtime is more likely to be spent sweating in souvenir T-shirts at the Park Slope Y.

Baldwin 1966 article " A Report From Occupied Territory"

Now, what I have said about Harlem is true of Chicago, Detroit, Washington, Boston, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and San Francisco—is true of every Northern city with a large Negro population. And the police are simply the hired enemies of this population. They are present to keep the Negro in his place and to protect white business interests, and they have no other function. They are, moreover—even in a country which makes the very grave error of equating ignorance with simplicity—quite stunningly ignorant; and, since they know that they are hated, they are always afraid. One cannot possibly arrive at a more surefire formula for cruelty.

This is why those pious calls to “respect the law,” always to be heard from prominent citizens each time the ghetto explodes, are so obscene. The law is meant to be my servant and not my master, still less my torturer and my murderer. To respect the law, in the context in which the American Negro finds himself, is simply to surrender his self-respect.

most of the uberwealthy from out of that country have left and real estate values have sunk, now many Indonesian wealthy are fleeing as well. The point was simply that there is no place for the very very wealthy to hide with impunity on the planet. Places previously believed safe are no longer so.

NOTHING MORE WAS MEANT.. no rehashing of Indonesian politics.

::sigh::

Now, about the US for fuck's sake for just a minute, though it's probably not worth the bother any more as most of our own population isn't going to do a fucking thing.... UNTIL the 1% in this country are divested of their greed-accumulations, things will only get worse and worse and worse.

How far are YOU willing for things to get?

really confused and divided the issue when they picked that name to represent their cause. Now they spend more time defending what they mean by it then they do attacking the problem.

"Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich."--Napoleon

Seems pretty self-explanatory to me? I suspect that those trying to confuse the issue of Black lives actually mattering to public servants of all sorts are using anything they can to distract from the fact that Black lives actually DO matter, should matter to public servants of all sorts - and that in reality they do not matter to those who are supposed to be protecting them and serving their interests.

Only a banana Republic allows so many of its most easily identifiable as likely vulnerable (non-billionaire and therefore worthless in real money) citizens to be ever-so-casually falsely arrested, wrongly fined/imprisoned, beaten and killed without repercussions to the perpetrators in many cases, indicating tacit approval or, as with Hillary, even spoken approval of a Mayoral perpetrator in the cover-ups of police murder of citizens - who happened to be Black.

Lol, think I need a break; recently read something causing me to spit nails...

Edited to add, obviously not aimed at you, dkmich!

Psychopathy is not a political position, whether labeled 'conservatism', 'centrism' or 'left'.

A tin labeled 'coffee' may be a can of worms or pathology identified by a lack of empathy/willingness to harm others to achieve personal desires.

do they have to keep explaining that "all lives really do matter", it is just that "black people" are targets? Of course "all lives are important, it is just that the war on drugs and cops target black people". The war on drugs is a war on minorities and poor people wages by the Clintons and their .01%.

And even if it is understood, they set themselves up for strawman arguments all day long diluting and confusing the message.

if it would have taken some of the steam out of the police apologists ability to attack.

Regardless, what's in the past is in the past, they still got their message out there in the public dialog pretty deeply so I would say they still pulled off an amazing job.

"I used to vote Republican & Democrat, I also used to shit my pants. Eventually I got smart enough to stop doing both things." -Me

Before the shooting, Dallas was a model for their big message. They had white people, supportive cops, and peaceful protests going on everywhere. Quite a feat.

In hindsight, they should have picked: "All lives matter. Black lives matter." It would have precluded all of the stupid remarks, and opened the door to the bigger issue of militarized police, the drug war, for-profit jails, etc. They would have had every white male libertarian going "hell ya" instead of saying "white lives matter too". It would also have opened the door to discussio on racism and how minorities, mostly blacks, are targets of police brutality and other racist policies in police departments, states and DC.

I give them a lot of credit, but I just wish the issue had been broadened. It is such an important issue that it deserves the most impactful support it can get.

I wonder if non-black protesters carrying such signs would be unwelcome/considered divisive if they showed up at a protest.

I had watched horrific videos of beat-downs and murders of (non-black) mentally ill men at least a year before BLM ever hit the stage at NetrootsNation last year to confront O'Malley and Sanders.

Who speaks for them, the voiceless least among us?

I see your point - but what else could possibly be as concise and explanatory and, perhaps more to the point, that would not be confused/straw-manned/dismissed?

Besides, it all started as a hashtag and became a movement, so it just sort of happened.

I hear way too many "liberals" going along with that stupid meme. I had one get cranky about the name recently, and I asked her what she would have thought of them if they'd called themselves "Black Lives Matter Less". She had nothin'...

semi-normal brains. All we can do is keep rooting out the worms. Just like not giving them the dignity of the "pro-life" label. They're pro-forced birth. Once you're born, they couldn't care less about your life.

As for BLM, hopefully you gave that "liberal" plenty to think about. If she's truly liberal, she'll realize she let Faux or somebody get to her and there's nothing wrong with saying, "Hey! We matter!"

that Working Class Lives Matter was most appropriate, but that would likely have attracted a broad coalition and can't have that.

working class people of all races, I'm sure that would have been the theme. But what's obvious about the videos is that the vast majority of victims are black. I'm sure BLM would love a broad coalition, which would increase their power. I try to go to every demonstration around here. They are always happy to see me.

I'm also sure that thug cops first target blacks and the mentally ill on purpose. Start with those perceived as having the weakest power. Divide and conquer. Then move on to the next weakest. If we don't all push back, if we make excuses, if we're too afraid of the cops to do anything other than blame the victims, then it's only a matter of time until only the wealthy whites are safe from thug cops.

Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.

Actually, they're arguing about a hashtag that became a movement. Since the hashtag was known and said the essentials, why not keep the name everyone knows? Especially by now?

Edited to add that people's lives matter all the way through, and that in a wealthy democracy, all people have a right to a decent one with decent pay for decent housing, decent food and other necessities once common to most within industrialized democracies, without discrimination, harassment or a hail of police gunfire, the latter only being a more final abuse among many.

We all know that any American of Colour has a better chance of being discriminated against than most other assumed-to-be-poors - right up to being murdered by police for Existing With Naturally Darker Skin and I really am not comfortable with arguments about the name of a movement against the common and often consequence-free outright murder of identifiable population segments by those being paid by their tax money to protect them.
