Censoring Jill Stein

Dr. Jill Stein was interviewed on PBS the other day...sort of.

A key chunk of the Green Party presidential candidate’s recent 15-minute interview with anchor Judy Woodruff on the PBS News Hour was apparently left on the cutting room floor. The section of the interview contained Stein’s criticism of Democrat rival Hillary Clinton.

Stein was in the process of responding to Woodruff’s inquiry about whether she thinks that Clinton and GOP nominee Donald Trump are equally “as bad” for the country. The differences between the two are insufficient to save American jobs, Stein answered, but the bulk of her analysis in context set forth below was edited out of the PBS broadcast (although the entire interview video appears on the PBS NewsHour Facebook page).

“Hillary Clinton and now her transition director Ken Salazar, they’re big proponents of Trans-Pacific Partnership which is basically NAFTA on steroids, and most observers believe that it will send our jobs overseas as well as undermine American sovereignty by bringing in these international tribunals that get to pass judgement on our laws, on our public health protections, on our worker protections. So we can’t count on saving our jobs — saving our lives. One in three Americans now can’t afford healthcare under Obamacare. Or saving the planet because Hillary has been a big proponent of fracking as is Ken Salazar, her transition director.”

A Facebook friend of mine brought this to my attention...sort of.
You see, my friend posted a link to this on Facebook, and then Facebook immediately censored it.
I only saw her follow-up post at being surprised at being censored.

I know some of you may be thinking that it was a one-off by Facebook, but in fact my friend was not alone.

I called out PBS for censoring Jill Stein. And now I have been censored by Facebook....

Thousands of people who shared my original “Jill Stein Censored by PBS NewsHour” Facebook video, can check back at their post to see a new message at the top saying:

“It looks like the link you shared doesn’t follow our Community Standards. If you think your post shouldn’t have been removed, let us know by filing out this form.”

It asked whether you believe Facebook cares about its "customers". I answered in the negative even though I know Facebook's "customers" are the advertisers, not the users. They care very much about the advertisers...

Here's a fun thing to do. Go into settings

Screen Shot 2016-08-27 at 1.11.52 PM.png

Click ads on the left

Screen Shot 2016-08-27 at 1.12.08 PM.png

Click edit on Ads based on my preferences

Screen Shot 2016-08-27 at 1.12.10 PM.png

Then Visit Ad Preferences

Hover over More and then select Lifestyle and Culture

Screen Shot 2016-08-27 at 1.13.36 PM.png

You will then see a box called US Politics. And it will tell you what Facebook thinks your political position is...

"Very Liberal." Wonder if that's an indicator in an algorithm to make ones posts monitored for potential censorship.

It seemed, for a while, that the Tech guys were on our side, didn't it? The phones with video capabilities, hackers doing vigilante intelligence work of exposing the corruption and fraud for the people, etc. I still think they are on our side.

But the owners of Twitter, Farcebook, and Google, Amazon, Yahoo, etc, they suddenly find themselves with lifetime chairs at the table of oligarchy. Rubbing elbows, swilling the finest, and the obligatory believing that one's self has been especially deigned for such a role because of one's oft-repeated brilliance by the Yes Men surrounding, has gotten to their heads.

It sometimes appears that the real battle in all of this will be between the high-tech humanitarians with socialist tendencies and Robin Hood instincts and the newly-minted robber barons of our own Gilded Information Age, who believe they are singularly to be rewarded for the collective work that so many before did but that they willfully believe to be their own.

Starting to feel like Egypt, Iran, Hong Kong shutting down the internet on its people. We're a little more devious here though. Like our Neoliberal overlords, we do it incrementally.

A truth of the nuclear age/climate change: we can no longer have endless war and survive on this planet. Oh sh*t.

Would have a huge smile on his face were he still around.

We live in a time when Shadow government, banking, military,
through the use of mercenaries, markets, through the use of
dark pools, journalism to name a few all exist.

So when the media/corporations of all types tell a story or paint
their narrative, censoring what might hurt TPTB should no longer
come as any surprise.

There was a reason why I stopped using FB years ago.

Simply pointing out PBS editorial choices. With all the tentacles of the Clinton Crime Family, they clearly have one around Zuckerberg's neck.

Donnie The #ShitHole Douchebag. Fake Friend to the Working Class. Real Asshole.

For Facebook, it may not actually be the company that is doing this, but the Correct the Record (CTR) people hired by Cliniton. They have started utilizing the tactic of complaining that a video critical of Clinton is violating the Community Standards of the site (usually they lie about it), which then forces the site to take down the video for a period of time.

Some people have pushed back and gotten the videos reinstated, but usually it's weeks later and in effect the damage is done.

I wouldn't necessarily blame facebook (at least not entirely). It's just pro-Hillary people gaming the system.

That's more proof that Facebook should never be used by anyone. It's what is today what Microsoft was to the last two decades.

And the solution is the same. Just say No!

Never intend to. It's bad enough I use gmail, although I seldom check it anymore. I wish DuckDuckGo was a better search engine, although I use it most of the time.

Boycotting increasingly authoritarian technology platforms and finding new, more secure ones might be part of the next stage of our political movement.

It isn't without reason that NPR is known as "National Petroleum Radio" and PBS is known as the "Petroleum Broadcasting System". They are also heavily supported by David Koch.

I stopped watching when Robert MacNeil retired, for Jim Lehrer took The News Hour strongly to the right. I don't recall which election it was, but Lehrer talked over the Democratic Convention speakers during that coverage while he interrupted it for the Republican speakers at their convention and allowed it all to be aired uninterrupted.

Facebook Chooses Governments and Profits Over Users’ Freedom and Information

The Castile video was shared via Facebook’s new video system, Facebook Live. And it may not be possible again, because police are increasingly working directly with Facebook to prevent users from sharing content before it goes viral, Quartz reported on Sunday. Case in point: what happened earlier this month in Baltimore.

“As events unraveled and before police shot and killed [23-year-old Korryn Gaines], they asked Facebook to suspend Gaines’ accounts on both platforms,” wrote Quartz reporter Hanna Kozlowskaqz. “They said users were egging her on not to give in during their negotiations. Facebook complied with the request and anyone watching Gaines’ feed found themselves cut off.”

Facebook’s response is what anyone receives when they attempt to reach the company: Gaines’ videos violated their content policy. This content policy is opaque, unevenly applied, and subject to no oversight except that of Facebook and its secret algorithms. What if Facebook had used this policy to block Castile’s fiancé from sharing her video on Facebook Live?

This is one more example of how the U.S. News Media manufactures fraudulently public consent (for Hillary Clinton) .....
