Can't figure this out

On Thursday it was announced that AG Jeff Sessions has ordered a review of all recent murders of transgender people in the US.

I received a letter expressing concern about the sudden [number of] transgender persons who had been killed,. So, first thing, I directed the civil rights division to look into those… to see if there was any uniform attack, or if there was just a uniform hostility that would result in these murders, and to review each one of those cases that were sent to me.

--Sessions

He added that the Justice Department may reopen some cases in hopes of solving them. Last year 25 trans Americans are known to be murdered—the highest number on record—and in 2017 we've already had 13.

Of course, while we’re glad Sessions is at least paying lip service to the LGBT community, we wouldn’t categorize him as an ally: As a Republican senator, he voted in favor of a constitutional ban on marriage equality and opposed both workplace-discrimination protections and adding sexual orientation and gender identity to Alabama’s hate-crime statutes. Before he left Congress, he co-sponsored the First Amendment Defense Act, which would have allowed any taxpayer-funded organization to ignore laws conflicting with its religious beliefs about marriage.

When you add in the fact that the vast majority of the transgender murder victims are women of color, the whole thing becomes quite puzzling.

Consider us stupefied.

It would only be puzzling if, after this review, effective changes were made. On the other hand, if what you get is a Transgender Murder Reform Bill then you'll be screwed and it's business as usual.

A lot of wanderers in the U.S. political desert recognize that all the duopoly has to offer is a choice of mirages. Come, let us trudge towards empty expanse of sand #1, littered with the bleached bones of Deaniacs and Hope and Changers.

or will ever know (or if that somehow happened) care that most transgender murder victims are women of color.

Most likely he is just interested in putting into uniform any uniform attackers he is able to identify.

Sessions wants to look competent and deflect attention from his own numerous shortcomings as Attorney General.

He's under Congressional investigation for numerous illicit collaborations with Russian officials. He's pissed everyone off who advocated marijuana legalization in the States where it is now legal. His prior positions are all horrible and full-flavor fascistic, especially with respect to the very LGBTQ people who he's now clutching at as a last-ditch effort to hold a job the Nation desperately needs him to lose.

We may as well have Joseph Goebbels as AG as have Jeff Sessions.

And increasingly large swaths of the American People are twigging to that fact, and demanding he stand down as AG.

You're right to place no stock in Sessions' window dressing, as that's all this announcement is.
