Their counterdemonstrations at the DNC meeting are downright fascist scary.

One of the commenters at Naked Capitalism was at a Biden town hall yesterday. They’re promising a full write up, but the teaser is that he looked frail, like in the early stages of dementia. Combined with the rumors that his campaign is keeping him out of site as much as possible and the leaks that Obama told him “you don’t have to do this”, I really wonder if the DNC is going to let him go through with this run. (Who am I kidding? Of course they will! Democrats honor protocol and seniority above all else.)

EDIT: here’s that account: https://www.nakedcapitalism.com/2019/08/links-8-24-19.html#comment-3202191

@Dr. John Carpenter

the ACA was a “huge step forward” at the time, it extended insurance to 20m, and he was really harping on the pre-existing condition thing. He said the job must be finished and health care is a right, not a privilege and that everyone deserves peace of mind.

Whooptie doo.. yeah it was great for those 20 million, but what about the other millions that still don't have health insurance for a number of reasons and those that do have such high deductibles and copays that they are just giving money to the insurance companies instead of being able to use it?

hen went into using the power of Medicare to negotiate with Pharma.

Wait weren't we told that the ACA was a step towards single payer? How many years has it been in effect and how many bills have democrats put forth to negotiate with big pharma? Nancy has some silly assed idea to bring up 20 drugs a year to negotiate prices. Which 20, Nancy? She might as well go for the moon since it will never come up for a vote in the senate.

I look forward to reading the article when it comes out.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@Dr. John Carpenter in the last year or so. Had to lose a lot of weight, perhaps have heart surgery of some kind. Then followed advice to seek plastic surgery for a youthful look, making him almost unrecognizable.
This is not the old "Uncle Joe" with metabolic syndrome. But his expiration might be a good way to accidentally be replaced by a vice-president like Harris. Or am I being too extreme?

@Creosote.

Not at all. Many people have been thinking that might be what is going to happen. My nightmare is that he puts Hillary on the VP ticket and you know there would be enough people over the moon if he did that and vote for the pair. Gahh!! Nightmare indeed.

Harris or Warren if it's not the Hill.

Heartfelt apologies, clearly this is all my fault -- I went deep sea bitching in the past and apparently beetlejuiced up the ghost of Reagan. Mea culpa, my bad, better luck next time.

All snark aside, this does appear to be a potentially very serious health issue, and the compassionate thing is for his family to take him home to rest. Hopefully they are at least considering it.

it was always a sore point watching the Olympics that the Russian national anthem was so musically superior to "ours" (which at the time I did not know had copped its tune from an old British drinking song about getting laid).

from this primary, people will point to that one key remark -- the one thing she said that should have resonated with every Democratic primary voter, and at least half the rest of the population; the one thing she said that flew in the face of milquetoasty bunk like that Biden quote: "Why would anyone go to the trouble of running for President just to talk about what can’t be done?"

Not Henry Kissinger's picture

That's not a blunder. It accurately describes the purpose of the ACA.

“We’ll make sure it’s not quality, we’ll make sure it’s only affordable.”

Kneecapping quality in public health insurance plans so that private plans look better by comparison is a key feature of Obamacare - not a bug.

Guess ol' Joe forgot he wasn't fundraising to a bunch of health care lobbyists. For those guys, Joe's comment is exactly what they like to hear.

The current working assumption appears to be that our Shroedinger's Cat system is still alive. But what if we all suspect it's not, and the real problem is we just can't bring ourselves to open the box?

even make it to the September debates. It appears now that he will manage to limp forward to that, but unless something dramatic changes in what he's presenting to the electorate, I don't see how he can do anything but decline in his polling numbers. He has quite clearly crossed a cognitive threshold, and just isn't functioning properly anymore -- for which he has my sympathy, as I have begun to observe in myself the onset of a cognitive decline. It is, as they say, all downhill from here.

@UntimelyRippd

I suffered a lot from cognitive problems through my 20-40's from a brain injury and when I am tired or in a lot of pain I still have problems. I was very self conscious about it then because I didn't understand why I was having problems and wasn't told that it was a side affect from the TBI until I was in my 40's. Gee... wish I had been told earlier. But having meetings with people one day and the next not even remembering I did or ask someone a question 5 times in 5 minutes and not remembering the time before until the person got aggravated. This is when I asked my doctor wtf the pills he had me on were doing to my brain. "Didn't anyone ever explain to you what happens to people with tbi's?" Nope...

So I am not making fun of Joe's speeches, but he does need to understand that he is slipping and bow out.Rumors are that Obama didn't want him to run either and it could be cuz he knew what was happening. It didn't help that Jill told us that we have to settle for Joe just to get Trump out because that won't fix the reasons Trump got in in the first place. I don't want Joe to win not because of his current problems, but because of his past actions. Not much would change for most of us if he did.

manage to empower such embarrassing individuals? Biden, Harris, Trump, McCain, Pelosi, Shrub, Perry, Abbott, Cruz, Scott Walker, Hillary, Slick Willie, the former New Jersey Governor, and on and on.
How on earth did these fools rise to the top tier?
It is just humiliating for me to try to explain to foreigners when I visit their countries that we, the people, are generally smart, decent, and trying to live in a peaceful and fair world.

@on the cusp We, the people, did not enable these incompetent nincompoops. We don't have the power to. They've been foisted upon us by those who do have the power, and who care not one whit about our "pet projects," like -- I don't know -- climate change, because their collective goal is truly a shared value: get all of the damn money.

They used at least to play along, so that we all really believed we had a say in the matter. Now they can't even be bothered to fake it. When Biden first announced, I heard my fair share of "Biden wouldn't be my first choice, but I'll vote for him because Trump," and "Don't let the enemy be the perfect of the good," and all of the standard Blue-No-Matter-Who bullhockey. Now, the people I know who used to say those things have shut the hell up. Everyone who's not a Hillbot, a DC insider, a one percenter, or a complete sell-out (and yes, these are all pieces of a Venn diagram) knows Biden is a disaster ... and yet he's still "ahead" in the "polls." That tells us all we need to know.

I know this is small comfort, but I've also come to realize that many who live outside the U.S. have copped to the game -- more so than we USians have -- and actually feel sorry for us, the people. I used to have to defend myself against angry relatives and complete strangers when traveling abroad after Shrub was elected. Post-Trump, I was prepared not to speak much in public, or to pretend I was Canadian. I needn't have worried. Since November 2016, when others have discovered where I'm from, they've first given me a sympathetic look.

I feel sorry for Biden in a way. The DNC is practicing elder abuse in their quest to get exactly what their donors and masters want.
