Bill Clinton to DNC: Keep progressives out of power

This will probably not surprise anyone.

In an interview with CSPAN on Thursday, Jonathan Allen explained how the Clintons have continued their war on Sanders and his supporters even after the 2016 election. (RELATED: Hillary Clinton Still Trashing Bernie Sanders)
“Roughly half the Democratic Party felt the DNC was unfairly tipping the scales in the last presidential election, trying to get Hillary Clinton nominated, trying to hurt Bernie Sanders,” Allen said. “Really there’s just been a clash between these two sides.”
Allen said those tensions “resumed the minute that Donald Trump was elected,” asserting, “Tom Perez is in the middle of that and he’s gotten very explicit instructions from President [Bill] Clinton…not to let the party go to the Bernie Sanders folks.”

In case you thought this was limited to the Clinton's, the DCCC made it clear today how they feel about progressives.

With 18-days left before the Democratic congressional primary runoff in Houston, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) Chairman Ben Ray Lujan is doubling down on his criticism of activist candidate Laura Moser, who is in a spirited battle with attorney Lizzie Pannill Fletcher for the party's nomination.
Pressed Friday by MSNBC host Hallie Jackson on whether the DCCC has its "finger on the scale" against progressive Democrats in primary contests around the nation, Lujan defended the campaign committee's unusual decision in February to publicly attack Moser, one of his party's own candidates.
...The divisions have Republicans reaching for the popcorn.

"The DCCC's comically ham-fisted attempts to control primaries like Texas' Seventh are tearing the Democratic Party in two," said Jack Pandol, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee. "Texas voters don't want to be told who to vote for by the Washington establishment, fueling this Battle Royale of their own creation."

Lujan, however, said he had no regrets about taking on Moser, who the DCCC first attacked in an "opposition research dump" in late February, shortly before the seven-way March 6 primary.

"I stand by that decision," Lujan said.

It isn't just the DNC and DCCC. The NY Times fell into line to defend the Democratic establishment.

Democratic leaders have intervened in, by my count, 14 primary races, suggesting, usually gently, that someone run for a different office or clear the field for a stronger candidate. Is this legitimate?

My answer is an unqualified yes. That’s what party leadership is all about.

Leadership? Is that what you call selling-out?

is supported by the establishment. He has no primary voting record to contest (the most firm way Dems dispute conservatives who want to run on the Dem ticket), but he had publicly called himself a "Reagan Republican" and The Intercept has video of him telling conservatives in the district who questioned his running on the "American ticket." Talk about someone 'not a Dem'...

For Dawg's sake. If you going to go into politics then run in the party that your thinking aligns with. People have given blue dawgs a pass on voting with the republicans because they think that type of democrat is the only type that could get elected. Sure seems like a great plan for the republicans. Get a few people who have been republicans their whole lives to switch parties and tell people that they are now democrats. Sneak attack.

Repubs. They win
@snoopydawg
elections as -ahem- "Democrats" - eliminating yet another Dem from Office, then, 2, vote with the Repubs after being sworn in.
It's what happened to the state Senate here in NY.
Four or five got elected as "Democrats," then "crossed the aisle" to vote with Repubs, giving Repubs an (unearned) majority.
It's brilliant KochBros / Karl Rovian Playbook stuff, and will likely keep Dims away from the majority forever, as most voters just not paying enough attention to stuff this charade.

Not that they won't try. Bernie 2020 will be even bigger than his candidacy in 2016. It helps to start a campaign with high name recognition, not be an afterthought at 3% and still come oh-so-close to getting the nomination.

in hell Bernie wins
@JekyllnHyde
the Dim nomination. He has the same chances (or less) that he had in 2016.
DWS and the gang are still in charge, and there's no way they allow Bernie anywhere near the crown jewels. If Bernie is serious about running, and Ed Schultz believes he is, then the Only way he can run - and win - is as an Indie. To get bogged down in a Dim Primary race is just stupid when it's clear sailing on the Indie line. Not that I expect that to happen, but it is the only way he wins.

@Wink
Here in Tx for instance, you have 2 choices during primaries. D or R, and you have to publicly announce it, while it's recorded into your voting record.

We saw the difficulty Jill had getting on the ballot in many states. It's a long, drawn-out, expensive (theiving bastards) process for any non establishment candidate wanting to distance themselves from that very establishment.

Yet another reason I just don't see the point anymore.

@Deja
No need for a primary if you're the only candidate.
Just get the signatures and get on the ballot.
Much easier to go the signature route than go the Dim primary route (which is impossible to win if your name is other than Kamala, or whomever their Chosen is).

I hadda force out of the caller for whom she was fundraising. When she finally said DiFi I laughed so hard and said something to the effect that we pay for corruption every day of our lives; we weren't about to contribute to corruption voluntarily. Then I added, "And besides, you lost us in the summer of 2016 by cheating. We DemExited. We voted for Stein."

In a fairly small voice the corruption fundraiser said, "OK," as though I was not the first to tell her this.

The answer is to weaken the party to the point where big donors won't think it's worth the investment.
Since we're going to get oligarchic policy either way, it's better to have that pinned exclusively on the republicans (or as much as possible), so the party can salvage its image as we take out the trash and eventually take back control of the party.

@Mike Taylor We have only three choices. (1) Vote third party (2) Vote Republican as a strategic move (3) Not vote at all.

My personal choice has been the first. But in no way, should we support a party that is so corrupt that they openly brag about it. The Democratic party must die first if we are to have any chance at all.

@gulfgal98
but there are still a few real progressives in races. We should get them elected where possible and make it very clear to their Democratic opponents why they lost when we can't.

We musn't disappear into the shadows so the establishment can say the Democrat didn't move far enough to the right.

@FuturePassed

But when the Progressive loses, decide for yourself if the winner is acceptable but not just as good. If unacceptable (like mine!) vote (G) if possible, or vote (R) if they are no worse than the Dem, or vote Mickey Mouse. Or leave that race empty. But don't stay home. They win if you don't vote at all.

Again, ranking the choices:
1. Vote FOR someone
2. Vote AGAINST someone
3. Vote SYMBOLICALLY (write-in or third party)
4. Don't Vote (Clinton wants you to do this)

"Progressive Democrats could find themselves celebrating in November if they let the party leaders do their job."

My comment is an ironic slam at that remarkably stupid statement, which assumes that Progressive Democrats would feel celebratory in the event of a victory by neoliberal Democrats whose values are antithetical to progressive principles.

And yes, I believe she is completely sincere, but simply too morally incompetent and intellectiual inept to understand that Progressive Democrats are not the allies of, nor cheerleaders for, neoliberal Democrats.

@The Aspie Corner 2016 maybe the first election where people did not buy the Clinton/party bullshit.

However, support for Hillary was way below Obama’s 2012 levels, with defectors turning to a third party. Clinton did worse with every single race+gender combo except white women, where she improved Obama’s outcome by a single point. Clinton did not lose all this support to Donald. She lost it into the abyss. Voters didn’t like her but they weren’t wooed by Trump

She didn't lose because of Jill Stein, Bernie Sanders criticism of her and especially because Russia interfered with the election by placing some ads on Facebook, she lost because people could not stand her. And she has made it very clear that she can't stand a lot of Americans, especially the ones who didn't vote for her because of her policies. And her arrogance. Thinking that people would be okay with her giving speeches to the banks right before she started her campaign is beyond arrogant! My voting for her meant that I was okay with what she did to Libya and the other countries she voted to invade. Nope. Would not give her that!

Seriously, Nobody shows up to her speeches, and so the costs on refreshments can be easily recouped by charging per plate.

The Media will absolutely go ape supporting Clinton, so really you don't need any fundraising, but you know they'll do it all the same, because that's a lot of pretty much free money from suckers.

I expect the Checks cashed and deposited in a nice account in The Caymans, and a quick explanation that once again, the Clinton's are broke.

Goddamn, I'm cynical. Do I really think they'd risk killing millions for a buck?

DNC as an organization has been purged of a few remaining progressives. The Unity Commission was majority Clintonites. After the spirited establishment defense of the DCCC acting as electoral hegemon, I don't see any movement on super delegates by the Rules Committee. A number of state parties are blocking progressives. One might think the state parties would be pissed off on how the DNC and Hillary stabbed them in the back over party money.

But progessives are winning the ideological battle on policy. Medicare for all, free college, etc. are becoming movements instead of wonk discussions.
