Americans Flock To The Democratic Party!

Yes, that is a real headline, but it's only one example from today.

PoliticusUSA: Americans Flock To The Democratic Party As Trumpcare Is Killing The GOP
The Hill: Democratic affiliation at two-year high: Gallup
AmericaNow: Poll: Democratic Party Identification At Two-Year High

Wow! People must be love, Love, LOVE, LOVIN The Dems!
Amirite! Can't you just feel it?
What's not to love?

There's just one little problem: It's a total misrepresentation of the results of the poll.

gallup_3.png

The growing Democratic advantage in recent months is mostly attributable to a decline in Republican affiliation rather than an increase in Democratic affiliation.

People aren't more or less fond of the Dems now than before.
What has changed is that people are getting sick of Republicans.
And that, by itself, is a good story.

So why the bullsh*t conjob spin?
Could it be because this is the real story?

I think all the swamp creatures, Republican and Democrat, are happy about that. Today they got to vote on repealing Dodd-Frank. MAGA.

the dumbass notion of voting for the lesser of two corrupt assholes. I won't vote for a corrupt asshole no matter what party. Maybe Stein would have been a weak president because she is not a Washington insider. But at least she would be honest and on our side. Trump is not on the side of the commoners. And Hellery would not have been on the side of the commoners. Pick your lesser asshole.

@Citizen Of Earth More people may turn away from party affiliation, but I have to wonder how many of them will have the guts to vote outside the duopoly that doesn't even pretend to represent their interests anymore. The Democrats seem to be banking on notTrump being good enough and, I hate to say it but, I think that's a pretty safe bet.

It is time.

People need to vote on issues and how we can be helped and who is looking out for us not because of the "sure thing" BS due to the usual lazy "America Likes a winner" and vote outside the box and go Indy for once! we have to shake the corrupted duopoly loose and get free of their bought asses! I voted for Stein, knowing it would help her, and not change the outcome of my state which voted heavy for Trump.

So long, and thanks for all the fish

The Gallup Party Affiliation data (scroll down for the data with leaners) seems to show opposite trends, namely support for the Dems (including leaners) falling and the support for the Repubs (including leaners) increasing. I can't reconcile the two datasets.

@Dr. John Carpenter If not in 2020 then certainly in 24. I just hope that the oscillation of voters desperately seeking a safe harbour in the storm is dampening over time. I don't expect the general pattern to stop any time soon.

What I find hopeful is how the wheels are coming off the bus for TPTB. As we push, they must push back... and they do... and they win. But in doing so they show their hand. Hillary's campaign was a perfect example of that. Sure, she crushed Bernie... but look at the cost in credibility. They had to say up was down and black was white to screw with him and it was pretty obvious to anyone who was on the verge of "waking up". @coolepairc

@coolepairc I just saw it as the same old cooked books the Democrats like to run with. I clearly remember during the primaries how I (an Independent) was told that there are no Independents... just Democrats or Republicans who were too prissy to sign up. That's the same thing baked into that "Lean Democratic" thing.

If someone asked me I might well say I "leaned Democratic". That doesn't mean I'm going to vote for any Democrats until they start leaning Democratic also.

The way I read that is that there is some small reason for optimism in a sea of despair. Sure there's that tiny little uptick at the end but the picture is pretty clear... a lot of squabbling among two relatively small groups while the independents stand by in disgust.

Here's a zoom in of the tail end:

The Democratic party does not deserve to remain a viable party. They have destroyed what little credibility they had during the 2016 primaries. The party is totally corrupt and does not deserve to remain as it is.

one. Looks like from 44 to 45%? That's not statistically significant, but I'm wondering if I'm reading the graph wrong b/c the lines show a much more significant bump than 1%?
