“President Guatemala Jimmy Morales said Sunday his country will return their embassy to Jerusalem on May 16, in support of the United States decision to do the same, a move that further reaffirms a decades-long controversial relationship between right-wing Guatemalan governments and successive Israeli governments.”

“A top secret Israel Defense Ministry document, signed by Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, was recently posted on the internet. this war criminal! Why don't we the people get as much a say in our government as Israel does? Who decided that they get to decide who our government gets to be? No one gets elected with out Israel's say so. And if they f*ck up, they're out.

Just the south?

Hmm. Cardin seems worried about the Israeli BDS. In fact, a lot of congress members are. Maybe it's working ...

Here's a thought. Maybe if Israel wasn't creating so much havoc everywhere they wouldn't have to worry about their security. This seems pretty simple to me.

24 states have either passed anti-bds laws, or their govs have issued similar EOs, with more pending. and i hadn't remembered it, but Obomba had signed an anti-bds EO as he was dealing with the EU and potential signatories of the TPP. but this page tries to parse it all, and remember: 'unconstitutional' is in the end...what the (activist) supreme court decides, tragically.

and i keep meaning to ask: what IS the macedonian signal?

Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal's picture

@wendy davis @wendy davis I used to be Cant Stop the Signal, which is a reference to this Joss Whedon movie:

"There is no news. There is the truth of the signal...and there's the puppet theater, the parliament of jesters forced on the somnambulant public."

"Everything goes somewhere, and I go everywhere. Can't stop the signal, Mal."

And this:

I became "Can't Stop the Macedonian Signal" after this nonsense:

http://theduran.com/hillary-clinton-now-blames-macedonia-for-election-lo...

Hillary's take:

“So this was different because they went public, and they were conveying this weaponized information and the content of it, and they were running, y’know there’s all these stories, about y’know, guys over in Macedonia who are running these fake news sites, and you know I’ve seen them now, and you sit there and it looks like you know sort of low level CNN operation, or a fake newspaper.”

The corporate media gets in on the act:

http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/hack/the-surge-of-pro-trump-fake-...

In a fit of snarky bitchiness, I renamed myself "Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal." Probably there's at least one Hillbot out there that actually believes I am a Macedonian election hacker. It's awfully easy to hack elections--just say some things that the powerful don't like.

@TheOtherMaven What that whole Israel kow-tow was about? It's so mixed up in religion and guilt and greed and territory and politics that it seems no-one has a clear picture of what it's all about (on this side of the Atlantic). The Palestinians have a pretty good picture of the agenda. Mericans, not so much. I'm guessing Israel is the lap dog the US uses to further their Imperial domination of the mid-east? If one follows the dollar out-lays for military and arms they 'buy' and the US provides, one may come to the conclusion there are shared political strategies. That's not territory we control. A very clear example of using other countries to further something originating in the US. Too bad we don't have a say in it. Those policies reflect on our 'support', since the electorate doesn't seem to resist.

and i went back to trnn to see if there were a transcript for gideon levy's talk yet that would yield his conclusions. but no, there will never be. as he's speaking for an hour at a conference. hoping i might glean something in the comments, i did, and the power of sheldon edelson's fortune was mentioned, but almost all hurrahed that he was speaking truth to power. as he writes for haaretz, that's likely true.

but anyhoo, on i went to jonathan cook's own website to see if he had anything much from his 2008 book 'Israel and the Clash of Civilisations: Iraq, Iran and the Plan to Remake the Middle East', but not on the book's own page. the blurb:

"Israel and the Clash of Civilisations: Iraq, Iran and the Plan to Remake the Middle East, has been praised as “superb” by John Pilger and “compelling” by veteran Middle East reporter David Hirst. Here, Jonathan argues that Israel’s desire to be the sole regional power in the Middle East has shaped the Bush Administration’s objectives in the “war on terror”. The book examines a host of inter-related issues, from the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and the Second Lebanon War to the role of Big Oil and the demonisation of the Arab world. The current chaos in the Middle East, far from being a disastrous mistake, is the true goal of the neocons and Israel." the various linked reviews would likely tell more about his reasoning, but...i had to back out. oh, but he has a photos page, my stars.

so i got on his twitter, and found this:

@QMS

Personally, with the caveat that I'm limited to what little I've read on the American political corruption end, I've been thinking along what seems pretty similar lines, that the Likud (who are also a collection of psychopaths, as is obvious, so I don't blame the Israeli people for them, their lackeys or their Palestinian and other abuses and corruption, which, despite being flooded with propaganda, they probably mostly don't approve of) are likely in on the whole multinational Trilateral Commission, etc./fascist global take-over thing, which would explain a lot, (getting a foot in that mid-Eastern door by starting/supporting a 'sympathetically run' country under the American-citizen-supporting excuse of making a homeland for desperate people fleeing psychopathy which US industrialists/PTB sponsored and funded, in another people's country?) especially regarding the outpouring of killer weaponry from often unwitting American taxpayers to the Likud.

On the other hand(-out), the bribery of various 'Israel-supporting' billionaires such as Haim Saban and Adelson could simply have bought all this when they bought huge chunks of US government.

And if there's another hand waving about somewhere, it could easily be a mixture of both; Saban's promises to Hillary sure made a pink and excited Her drool during a portion of a Brookings speech consisting of endless promises to Israel of sending them, at Haim's well-financed 'request', even more and worse weaponry and (flammable) warplanes (hyper-expensive, over-priced F-35's*; the 'good' ones, I understand, not the lesser ones that most countries get for their billions and presumably also trillion-dollar? upkeep costs, for when it's their turn to be threatened/invaded when the others are done, I suppose, the US PTB having the better ones,) at public cost and of sacrificing American interests (which, granted, certainly doesn't mean remotely the same thing to Her as to me,) to Israel, placed over the country Her was running for Coronation over, as President.

Or, of course, something completely different. Blackmail, perhaps.

Whatever it is, it won't be healthy for anyone else.

Not that this sounds like a great deal for Israel, although - wait! Surviving American taxpayers will doubtless be paying all of that hyper-high maintenance bill for the Likud as well.

Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II

... The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighters. ...

... The program is the most expensive military weapons system in history, and has been much criticized inside and outside government, in the U.S. and in allied countries.[16] Critics argue that the plane is "plagued with design flaws", with many blaming the procurement process in which Lockheed was allowed "to design, test, and produce the F-35 all at the same time, instead of… [identifying and fixing] defects before firing up its production line".[16] By 2014, the program was "$163 billion over budget [and] seven years behind schedule".[17] Critics also contend that the program's high sunk costs and political momentum make it "too big to kill".[18] ...

... F-35 development started in 1992 with the origins of the Joint Strike Fighter program and is set to culminate in full production in 2018.[19] The X-35 first flew on 24 October 2000 and the F-35A on 15 December 2006. The F-35 was developed to replace most US fighter jets with variants of one design common to all branches of the military. It was developed in cooperation with a number of foreign partners, and unlike the F-22 Raptor, intended to be available for export. Three variants were designed: the F-35A (conventional take off and landing, CTOL), the F-35B (short-take off and vertical-landing, STOVL), and the F-35C (carrier-based CATOBAR). Despite being intended to share most of their parts to reduce costs and improve maintenance logistics, by 2017 the design commonality was only 20%.[20] The program received considerable criticism for cost overruns during development and for the total projected cost of the program over the lifetime of the jets. By 2017 the program was expected over its lifetime (until 2070) to cost $406.5 billion for acquisition of the jets and $1.1 trillion for operations and maintenance.[21] A number of design deficiencies were alleged, such as carrying a small internal payload, inferior performance to the aircraft being replaced particularly the F-16, and the lack of safety in relying on a single engine, and flaws were noted such as vulnerability of the fuel tank to fire and the propensity for transonic roll-off (TRO or "wing drop"). The possible obsolescence of stealth technology was also criticized. ...

... Structural composites in the F-35 are 35% of the airframe weight (up from 25% in the F-22).[45] The majority of these are bismaleimide (BMI) and composite epoxy material.[46] The F-35 will be the first mass-produced aircraft to include structural nanocomposites, namely carbon nanotube reinforced epoxy.[47] Experience of the F-22's problems with corrosion led to the F-35 using a gap filler that causes less galvanic corrosion to the airframe's skin, designed with fewer gaps requiring filler and implementing better drainage.[48] The relatively short 35-foot wingspan of the A and B variants is set by the F-35B's requirement to fit inside the Navy's current amphibious assault ship parking area[49] and elevators; the F-35C's longer wing is considered to be more fuel efficient.[50]

A United States Navy study found that the F-35 will cost 30 to 40 percent more to maintain than current jet fighters;[51] not accounting for inflation over the F-35's operational lifetime. A Pentagon study concluded a $1 trillion maintenance cost for the entire fleet over its lifespan, not accounting for inflation.[52] The F-35 program office found that as of January 2014, costs for the F-35 fleet over a 53-year life cycle was $857 billion. Costs for the fighter have been dropping and accounted for the 22 percent life cycle drop since 2010.[53] Lockheed stated that by 2019, pricing for the fifth-generation aircraft will be less than fourth-generation fighters. An F-35A in 2019 is expected to cost $85 million per unit complete with engines and full mission systems, inflation adjusted from $75 million in December 2013.[54] ...

Kinda indicates that they were never planning on stopping at stomping the little, poor countries without air force defenses, doesn't it? Sorta like their tendencies and aims do.

And just look at the inflation rate over 5 years, that doesn't apply to the 'Little People' on starvation wages and fixed pensions... but they've spent all of your public money on Those Who Matter killing those who don't, to them, so if you just suck it up, maybe you won't feel so hungry, with your SS - which you've paid into your entire working life - gone and all.

Psychopaths must be cleaned out, and kept out, of public office...

but may i drop this here? lest anyone ever forget that all of this is about actual people who live their live under the jackboot of not only hunger, second or third class citizenship, but the 'moral' (perhaps npr has it also?) israeli security forces, jonathan cook who writes from nazareth reminds us: ‘Israeli Army’s Lies Can No Longer Salvage Its Image’, by Jonathan Cook, march 6, counterpunch:

“In the early 2000s, at the dawn of the social media revolution, Israelis used to dismiss filmed evidence of brutality by their soldiers as fakery. It was what they called “Pallywood” – a conflation of Palestinian and Hollywood.
In truth, however, it was the Israeli military, not the Palestinians, that needed to manufacture a more convenient version of reality.

Last week, it emerged, Israeli officials had conceded to a military court that the army had beaten and locked up a group of Palestinian reporters as part of an explicit policy of stopping journalists from covering abuses by its soldiers.

Israel’s deceptions have a long history. Back in the 1970s, a young Juliano Meir-Khamis, later to become one of Israel’s most celebrated actors, was assigned the job of carrying a weapons bag on operations in the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. When Palestinian women or children were killed, he placed a weapon next to the body.”
and on and on...(‘more kafka than hollywood;) including ahed taminni, and now as per ramzy baroud, israeli authorities have arrested nine more members of her family, including her cousin who was shot in the head and is awaiting reconstructive skull surgery.

"getting money out of politics", it's far more than trying to overturn C.U. and seeking public financing of elections. The entire political system is infested with money, bribery, favoritism, threats, etc. The think tanks, CFR, Trilateral, Bilderberg, the list is long of organizations that the ruling class use to dictate government. for it is written:

Deuteronomy 7 King James Version (KJV)

7 When the Lord thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Iraqis, and the Syrians, and the Lebanese, and the Libyans, and the Samalians, and the Sudanese, and the Iranians, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

2 And when the Lord thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

5 But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.
...
21 Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the Lord thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.

22 And the Lord thy God will put out those nations before thee by little and little: thou mayest not consume them at once, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

23 But the Lord thy God shall deliver them unto thee, and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction, until they be destroyed.

24 And he shall deliver their kings into thine hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven: there shall no man be able to stand before thee, until thou have destroyed them.

If I were a PNAC type, or some other sort of neoliberal imperialist fanatic, I might start to wonder if he's the right man for the job.

@Cant Stop the Macedonian Signal

as bomb-bomb-iran mcCrankypants never got into the WH. and stopping iran so far has meant 'war by other means'. only the gods now what sort of bellicose discussions bibi and orange julius had at the white house, eh? the largest issue is whether or not iran ever had a serious nuclear bomb program, and oy: is that in the mind of the beholder. 2L for me to finish earlier this morning, but ee gareth porter's 'How “Operation Merlin” Poisoned U.S. Intelligence on Iran', March 6th, 2018 at dissidentvoice.org

and/or viewing pleasure:

a few from mondoweiss’s aipac 2018 assortment:

‘With gags, props, and slides, Israel’s Netanyahu warns of Iran at AIPAC’
‘Schumer and Dems outdo Trump at AIPAC– there’s no peace because ‘Palestinians don’t believe in Torah’
'IPAC panics over progressives abandoning Israel’ (by which Weiss means ‘dems);

i'd bumped into this while trying to find how many nations around the world have enacted anti-bds laws, but the EU news on it seems to be in the eye of the beholder.

okay, this is an odd one to parse from israelnationalnews.com (w/ video): 'Why is AIPAC pushing Palestinian statehood?'; Samaria leader hits pro-Israel lobby group for giving false impression of Israel's positions to members of Congress, Trump administration.

“A senior settlement leader criticized the American Israel Public Affairs Committee Monday morning, following the organization’s apparent endorsement of Palestinian statehood, in contradiction to Israeli government policy.
On Sunday, AIPAC CEO Howard Kohr endorsed the two-state solution in his address at the AIPAC annual conference in Washington DC, calling the establishment of a Palestinian state essential for Israel’s security.

“We must all work toward that future: two states for two peoples,” said Kohr. “One Jewish with secure and defensible borders, and one Palestinian with its own flag and its own future. Today that dream seems remote. This is tragic.”
Samaria Regional Council chief Yossi Dagan slammed the pro-Israel lobby group over its explicit endorsement of Palestinian statehood, saying the group was out of sync with both Israeli and US policy.

“We… note that the AIPAC talking points are still very much tied to establishment of a Palestinian state, what has been called ‘the two-state solution’,” said Dagan.
Dagan accused AIPAC of misrepresenting Israel’s position, noting that the current government has not endorsed Palestinian statehood.
“The AIPAC website also seems to imply that Israel is committed to a two-state solution and that the United States takes this position as well.”

“This assumption has no basis in fact,” continued Dagan. “The sovereign entity in Israel is of course the Government of Israel. The official GOI Guidelines are available to the public. As you see, they contain not one word or even hint of support for the ‘two-state solution’.”

“I am astounded as to why such a great, meaningful organization as AIPAC, whose raison d'etre is pro-Israel advocacy in the United States, would represent the positions of the State of Israel (and of the United States) so inaccurately before senior government officials, senators and congressmen, and the general pro-Israel public. The position that AIPAC is representing as that of the State of Israel -- in the AIPAC mission statement and in the AIPAC talking points inter alia -- not only fails to represent Israel properly, it is detrimental to the efforts to achieve dialogue in the Middle East.”

(as in again: who’s the client state, who’s the state’s client?)
