OT WE 12 NOV 25 ~ Local Politics

Meeting one afternoon a week in the basement of the United Congregational Church
is a ragtag group of mostly radical oldsters to discuss the state of politics both in the
state and federal levels. I tend to weigh-in also on global issues, but everyone is given
their say on affairs.
Last week the topic was ICE and the abuses being seen in Providence and Fall River,
both with large immigrant communities. It is a fairly lively discussion with a mostly left
leaning bent (read democratic). Which is OK, as our little town tends republican.
I am trying to set-up an online presence as they all use social media platforms to
share ideas (I don't). Somewhat limited in tech skills, but life is for learning.
It is a fairly intelligent bunch of folks - retired professors, doctors and administers.
Even a few of us working class types. It is a smallish group, which is good as the topics
are far ranging and everyone has a chance to contribute their opinions.
I am advocating for the C99 community, so may see some new membership develop.
Anyway, open thread so add your 2 cents on any topic of your choosing.

Morning
.
Happy Birthday Neil Young.
Turns 80 today.
Harverst is likely my favorite album of his. (1972)
His works with Buffalo Springfield and CSNY (Déjà Vu) were also good.

Good morning...
You group sounds interesting. Not sure there would be interest here in such discussions.
Like religion, politics is usually avoided except for bitching about road repairs and things like that. During Biden's occupation I heard more comments around town. I'm surprised there's not more criticism of Trump. The local US rep, MTG, has been calling out Israel first and yesterday criticized al-Jaloni's white house visit. Not sure how the locals view her comments.
Well take care. You might want to add the OT banner to draw folks attention. Thanks for the OT!

Yeah, thought the head chopper visit
.
visit to the White House was creepy as hell.
BTW, the banner is there on my screen
just above the tree reflection on a local pond.
Cheers.

Also a Happy Birthday to Booker T. Jones
.
.
81 today. Probably best known for his work under
the Booker T. & the M.G's group name.

Telling how two countries have decided

to stop providing the US with "drug boat"
intelligence. Columbia and UK have decided to
withhold any supposed logistics of suspected
vessel coordinates from the military machine.
One could surmise they do not trust the Pentagon
to perform due diligence before blowing rubber boats
out of the water and murdering sailors (fishermen) in
international waters any longer. It is a statement.

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981
I have had a major earworm
working the last couple of weeks, so I thought I'd pass it on to you all.
I remember all too well performing this piece, back when I was in the onstage cast of Cabaret in my misspent youth. I always had a struggle with the characterization required: my character had to appear bizarrely excited by it at the end of the piece, all sung while the actual me was throwing up a little bit in my mouth. I have to say that working through how disturbing it was back then was a challenge. If you've ever performed it in public to an audience paying for the privelige, you can never forget the sensation- or the lyrics.
It is an even harder listen today, nearly 50 years later, watching it come true. In my not at all humble opinion, a sizeable fraction of the population of the US would probably agree with it, were they ever to encounter it. Which is why they will not listen. And even if they do somehow listen, they will not hear.
Without further ado, I present the movie version of Kander and Ebb's immortal end to the first act of the show.
Be safe out there.

Meanwhile, Caitlin Johnstone tells us:
I mean, I don't think this is surprising at all. Israel was and is no doubt a far more secure form of protection than, say, Donald Trump, or for that matter any President at any time in history, and Epstein needed protection for sure...

A mere coincidence no doubt? Of course Trump is as pure
as freshly fallen snow.

In other words, the Democrats are using the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax to try and deflect from their massive failures, in particular, their most recent one — THE SHUTDOWN!
Well look at this! Bibi seems to be holding all the cards.
