Alright I give up. Apologies to Betty.

I left the church back in the 80's when Medeiros then Law presided over the rape of children by Priests in Mass.

I tried to believe.

I could not because the "pastor" of my high school and other "brothers" preyed on the flesh of boys.

They have all died or are living in some Safe Place in "retirement".

I really tried to maintain my faith. I was pissed at Betty.

I no longer am.

I'm sorry Betty. You were right all along and I was deluding myself.

Here:

Vatican police 'break up drug-fuelled gay orgy at home of secretary of one of Pope Francis's key advisers'

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4667098/Vatican-police-break-gay...

Guess what? The Pope is shocked.

Fuck him.

Fuck the Catholic Church.

I'm 61 and going to the grave with no ceremony or life here after bullshit.

So there.

I really don't care what anyones preference is. I do care that it may be exercised with the authority of G-D to satisfy ones sick desires. LGBTQ people are not sick. These people are sick.

Sorry I hassled you at TOP Betty. Welcome to C99%.

Can you forgive me?

Was it the catholics, muslims, Jehovah witnesses, Baptists, Mormons, the snake handlers, or what? I think God should have a giant special on TV, a worldwide special, to announce the winner. I bet it would be the most viewed TV special in history. Vegas would have a field day.
Maybe Aston Kutcher could help out.

@Big Al I have no personal experience with Buddhism -- I left the Catholic church 20 years ago and vowed never to associate with organized religion again -- but theirs is the only philosophy that makes a modicum of sense to me.

As I once said to my still-practicing mother: "My church is the woods."

Pissed her right off. But it's true.

@WaterLily a.k.a. Saint Francis of Assisi, his likeness is splattered all over the Bay Area. I always thought San Francisco was named for him. Not sure if Pope Francis is anything like his namesake, a little bit maybe.

Character and legacy (from wiki)
...

He and his followers celebrated and even venerated poverty. Poverty was so central to his character that in his last written work, the Testament, he said that absolute personal and corporate poverty was the essential lifestyle for the members of his Order.

He believed that nature itself was the mirror of God. He called all creatures his “brothers” and “sisters”, and even preached to the birds and supposedly persuaded a wolf to stop attacking some locals if they agreed to feed the wolf. In his Canticle of the Creatures (“Praises of Creatures” or “Canticle of the Sun”), he mentioned the “Brother Sun” and “Sister Moon”, the wind and water, and “Sister Death”. He referred to his chronic illnesses as his “sisters". His deep sense of brotherhood under God embraced others, and he declared that “he considered himself no friend of Christ if he did not cherish those for whom Christ died”.

Francis' visit to Egypt and attempted rapprochement with the Muslim world had far-reaching consequences, long past his own death, since after the fall of the Crusader Kingdom, it would be the Franciscans, of all Catholics, who would be allowed to stay on in the Holy Land and be recognized as "Custodians of the Holy Land" on behalf of the Catholic Church.

While we're on religion, it's no wonder SV is filled with a bunch of Buddhists. lol Read What Silicon Valley Can Learn From Buddha's Diet

Zigmond works in the building below, overseeing data analytics for the Facebook News Feed and other parts of the world's most popular social network. That means he analyzes the massive of amounts of online data generated by News Feed, looking for ways to improve the service and other parts of Facebook. He's also a Zen priest who studied with the same Buddhist monk as Steve Jobs. And that means he's part of a long tradition inside Northern California tech circles. As we walk through Facebook's rooftop park, he hands me a copy of a 1986 academic monograph called From Satori to Silicon Valley. A thin paperback small enough to fit into my back pocket, it explores the link between Silicon Valley and the American counter culture of the 1960s and 70s, including so many hippie attitudes lifted from Buddhism. On the cover, two black-and-white symbols merge together: the ying-yang and the transistor.

Barf bag anyone? Oops my monkey mind failed on "no judgments" again. Only the SV bubble can take "no judgments" to mean "do whatever the fuck you want, regardless." Politicians too! Steve Jobs, I hope he is learning something in whatever reincarnated form he came back as. Hopefully it is not another useless bag of water like the last time. What a dick.

matter of faith or lack thereof. However, whether or not there is a hereafter has nothing to do with the behavior of pedophile priests, or Pope Frankie and/or His pedophile advisor or Cardinal Law, (who, btw, got kicked upstairs to the Vatican for protecting the reputation of the Catholic Church by moving pedophile priests from one unsuspecting parish to the next). There either is a hereafter or there isn't, regardless of what any human does.

People like Law and Benedict XVI and (possibly) Francis kinda make me wish there will be a Judgment Day, though.

There's only been one Pope named Francis, ever. That's why he's simply called "Pope Francis".

dreck on a board.) I guess I leapt to the wrong conclusion after someone told me that his nickname was Frankie Two Sticks.

What he is called, though, is not dispositive. Many refer to recent Popes (John, Benedict and Francis) without using numerals.

My maternal grandmother once told my mother she was raising us as heathens because we did not go to church, any church really. So my mom found a couple of them and they were OK. We were baptized Lutheran but weren't real serious, it was all about Sunday school for the most part. But I just have never believed in it really. So Nanny WAS right after all, and if she were here I would tell her all about it. I think even she'd agree with my reasons when I point out just what religion is used for in the world.

I had a Mormon friend as a kid and I went to some of their catechism like classes. They had a blue tiled baptismal pool that I instantly wanted to be dunked in. Went home and told my mother that. She didn't really freak out but it never happened either. Good thing!

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

Voting is like driving with a toy steering wheel.

@snoopydawg It doesn't matter if She exists or not. Evidence is the same for either premise. Personally, I hope the hard core Christians are right--boy, will they be surprised come judgemy day!
I stay away from church. Last time I went I got two black eyes. As we stood I noticed the lady in front of me had her dress creased into the crack of her butt. So I did the christian thing and pulled it out. POW! That was one eye, but I learned my lesson. So the next time we stood, I poked it back...

One year I prayed super hard for a bike but didn't get one, so when that didn't work I stole a bike and prayed for forgiveness instead. The second plan worked way better than the first.

That's the beauty of being a Catholic, you get to be a right asshole 6 days out of the week and as long as you don't croak before Sunday confessional you're good to go. Smile

Probably explains why so many of these corrupt asshats choose that version of B.S. over the other options.

Dear EdMass, If you're referring to me - Betty Clermont - there's nothing to forgive. The fault is with the U.S. media's incessant dishonest reporting about this pope which in turn has caused the same media to report all-things-Catholic through rose-colored glasses.
