Album of the Week 6-22-24

Afternoon folks!

We've got some great blues this week with an album from Albert Collins and a compilation album from Tarheel Slim and Little Ann. I uploaded a great album from J.B. Hutto with Hound Dog Taylor's group the Houserockers, but some German corporation decided that they didn't want anybody in the world to hear it. expletives deleted. Anyway, after that we've got what I think is the Chambers Brothers best album, The Time Has Come - great stuff. Following that is a compilation of Rockabilly tunes from L.A. in the early 80's and another compilation of Texas guitar music from some serious hot dog guitarists. We finish up in the diversity department with The Battlefield Band, a Scottish traditional band.

Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Here 'tis:

Albert Collins ~ Frostbite

Tarheel Slim & Little Ann - The Red Robin And Fire Years

The Chambers Brothers - The Time Has Come

L.A. Rockabilly

Big Guitars From Texas - Trash, Twang & Thunder

The Battlefield Band - Anthem For The Common Man

I’d like to have an Albert Collins album, but which one? I’ve enjoyed all that you have showcased, so will have to go back and listen. Which one would you recommend, teach?

@janis b

well, there is not a bad albert collins album, but i think that my favorite album of his, the one i take on long drives is a live album entitled "albert collins and the icebreakers (live '92 - '93)" - it's on pointblank records. it's a 1995 album, so i don't know if it's still in print. if not, and you want to take a risk on buying a used cd, discogs has lots of them for sale cheap.

if you prefer studio recordings, there are a few greatest hits kinds of collections out there, too.

Hi Joe,

Great sounds man!

I'll take the Texas guitars over the LA Rockabilly. Smile That Good, Bad, and Ugly was awesome!

Time was a revolution in 1967. An instant anthem in L.A. My soul has been psychedelicized. Great album too.

The Albert Collins is awesome. Something about him goes right to my soul. Yeah, all the bad Albert Collins albums are right next the bad Roy Buchanan albums... Wink

Thanks for the soundscapes!

@janis b Hey Janis,

They exaggerate about the size of EVERYTHING here. Except how long it takes to drive across it, which they underestimate. Wink And the place is huge, so they don't need to. Nothing bigger than the often misplaced Texas pride...

be well!~
