Album of the Week - 10-22-22
Submitted by joe shikspack on Sat, 10/22/2022 - 3:00pm
Afternoon folks!
This week there are some pretty diverse selections for you. There's blues by Brownie & Sonny (with Earl Hooker), Johnny Jenkins and a compilation album with a bunch of great bluesmen on it. There's Bill Withers Live at Carnegie Hall and blues rock by John Kay & Sparrow (an early forerunner of Steppenwolf). For some real diversity, there's Richard & Linda Thompson and an album by a bunch of sidemen called The Section.
Enjoy!
Here 'tis:
Brownie McGhee & Sonny Terry with Earl Hooker - I Couldn't Believe My Eyes
Johnny Jenkins - Ton Ton Macoute!
Bill Withers - Live At Carnegie Hall

It's amazing...
how much your album collection mirrors mine.
Get out of my head, Joe!
Thank you joe
I especially enjoyed The Section. Their jazz is such a familiar and appealing sound, but I don’t remember them specifically. Every piece of the album was super.
The John Kay and The Sparrow
The John Kay and The Sparrow track had a bit of a Bob Dylan sound to it. I like Steppenwolf so thanks for the steer to the earlier group.
The Thompson's were always fun for me
Their song about a son gone from the war was quite moving.
I forget the name of that one ..
edit - found one similar ..

Here's my favorite Richard Thompson tune...
And my favorite cover of 1952 Vincent Black Lightning:

Hunter S. Thompson
LOVED the Vincent Black Shadow, and wrote of it often. Selected passages are located here, for the interested student... I don't know that he ever experienced the Lightning, but it would have been a hoot if he had!
He is sadly missed. I would give my left nut to find out his views on our current situation,
Twice bitten, permanently shy.
Jay Leno collects these old brit bikes
has quite few in running condition. I went with the Triumph Trident. 3 cylinders, 3 carbs. Never found the top end of that machine. Hot bike. BSA and Norton had a few good ones out there too
(early 70's). Remember this biker chick approached me in Phoenix, with a sorta good look :
So you ride english? (In reference to the old style of riding side saddle for ladies in dresses).
She was a harley type. I just smiled.
