38 Car Train Derailment in Malakoff TX Leaks Diesel Fuel

On my way to taking my child to school in the morning we always stop at Subway. There I was asked, "did you hear about the train?!? A train derailed here last night and we were evacuated because of the diesel oil spill."

Of course I could find very little information in the news. What I observed were about 50 (edit here . . . counted this afternoon and it is about 35) semi trucks carrying in heavy construction equipment. The main spill, just south of Highway 31 was smothered with law enforcement vehicles. Consequently, I did not feel comfortable about pulling over to take pictures.

However, a few blocks down I was able to photograph the big trucks and equipment hauling railroad ties to the repair site.

Naturally, the news reports downplayed this incident. Some rounded the number down from 38 to 30 cars. Only one mentioned that diesel oil may have been spilled. They all emphasized that no one was hurt. The main spill was by a church.

I am still upset about the (148,000, 82,000, or 46,000? the number keeps changing) gallon diesel oil pipeline spill from a couple of months ago just miles away from my family farm in Iowa. I have a hard time believing that this has not seeped into the ground water. I have not confirmed this but the photos in the article look like it leaked at the farm of a high school friend. No article has focused on the spoiled farmland and livelihood.

Magellan has had 28 pipeline spills in Iowa alone.

This article appears to defend pipelines, saying that they are so much better now.

Those greedy bastards, and the pitiful sheep who believe the greedy bastards. Messed up shit.

So much more than it reports. We can hear about every burglary, car jacking, or murder locally, but get little to no information about the things we need to know. National and international "news" is worse.

My problem with this post is that to a casual reader this is "another oil tanker train wreck". Actually, it appears that there were zero tank cars involved, and the diesel spill was most likely from the locomotives' fuel tanks rupturing on impact with the ground. Why this is in itself lamentable, this is not a Balkin Shale train derailment.

A Fox speaker could make a case to his followers this is another example of how the radical environmentalists are being dishonest. I also am annoyed by how the media will pick up and amplify how some unions behaving poorly translates into therefore we should get rid of all unions. We do not need to supply the ammo to the enemy!

. . . oily soil into a dump truck.

I should make one edit though. Probably 35 semi trucks carrying heavy equipment rather than 50. I had the opportunity to count this time.
