07/11 - World Population Day

!

~~ Human Density

It's World Population Day. According to the UN, World Population Day seeks to focus attention on the urgency and importance of population issues, but the narrative begins to drift at that point. They do, howevere, provide a link to a site full of data and charts and stuff: https://www.unfpa.org/data/world-population-dashboard. I dunno,, it's hard to talk about. What about all those backwards countries that force children to have children in order to satisfy the dynastic cravings of assorted persons, or various superstitions or simply the desire of some cult to conquer the globe by outbreedng all competitors. And then there are those places that try to restrict access to family planning advice and services even though they have no health care and have, at best, a somewhat mediocre profit based injury and illness treatment service. Really, I just can't go there

Difficult as it may be t discuss all that, it is harder to discuss Bowdler's Day. I mean, why does he even have a day, and shouldn't it at least be censored?

Also, and better yet, it's the anniversary of Zheng He 's first voyage:

There are much longer videos on this subject if you are interested.

Some people who died on this day:

“I think it's very important to live in the present. One of the great things that improvising teaches you is the magic of the moment that you're in; because when you improvise you're in right now. You're not in yesterday or tomorrow, you're right in the moment. Being in that moment really gives you a perspective of life that you never get at any other time as far as learning about your ego; You have to see your unimportance before you can see your importance and your significance to the world.”

So many people, so few shared resources. Water is the big one...

1 in 3 people globally do not have access to safe drinking water – UNICEF, WHO
New report on inequalities in access to water, sanitation and hygiene also reveals more than half of the world does not have access to safe sanitation services.

There are simple solutions, but little profit (and therefore will) to implement.

National Day of Remembrance of the victims of the Genocide of the Citizens of the Polish Republic committed by Ukrainian Nationalists (Poland)
Curious they are so gung ho to help Ukraine. Guess they dislike Russia more?

Well, thanks for the OT, and I hope you all have a good day!

causing serious problems, exacerbated by perverse profit driven misallocation of scarce resources. Water scarcity and lack of good sanitation facilities are also inextricably linked, worsening that particular pair of issues.

Dunno about Poland, and about governments, very strange that they don't see history rhyming in Ukraine.

brings fresh evidence in his book "1421" that Zheng He traveled all the way to Venice and presented the Monarchy with a map of the Earth showing the America's.
That map is in a museum there and displayed today.
Thanks for the OT.

Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

@earthling1 say. Nice video above, but no mention at all of the Menzies theory. And it does seem odd that Zheng would undertake so many exploratory voyages but only heading south, re-exploring the same areas mostly, and never to the east.

@wokkamile
is striking in that it is geographically accurate, for its time, showing a spherical representation as though it was peeled off of a globe.
Many then still thought the earth was flat.
Menzies has done some fascinating research.

could be in some of the longer videos about He's voyages, There are some really long ones that would be inappropriate for the OT which I intended to simply introduce him to folks.
