“You can only scare so many people to the polls”

“You can only scare so many people to the polls,” Perkins said. “You’ve got to cast a vision to get the rest of them there.”

That sounds like the sound advice of a Berniecrat trying to get a Hillarybot to see the light. You can't just run against Trump, right?

Except that it isn't what it appears to be.

As a small but growing number of Democrats follow in the footsteps of Conor Lamb, the apparent victor of the tight race in Pennsylvania’s 18th District who repeatedly said he wouldn’t support the House minority leader, some Republicans say there needs to be a recalibration in messaging around a person the GOP base still sees as toxic—with the understanding that anti-Pelosi rhetoric, which has driven so many other campaigns, can’t be the sole focus.

“Obviously with [Lamb] bringing that up, it’s a recognition that it’s a factor, she is a ball and chain around the Democratic candidates, I think you’re going to see more running away from her—but it’s not enough,” said Tony Perkins, the head of the socially conservative Family Research Council, referencing Lamb’s direct-to-camera TV ad disavowing support for Pelosi.

Wow. Republicans figured it out when the problem first appeared.
So what do Democrats think?

Opinion: Some Dems Want to Dump Nancy Pelosi. Are They Nuts?
Long Live Nancy Pelosi
Pelosi Is the Wrong Target for Democrats
Is Nancy Pelosi unpopular because she’s a woman — or because she was speaker of the House?

Nope. Dems are more afraid of a change in leadership than not being in leadership.
Failure is always an option.
I should point out that some Republicans still give the Dems too much credit.

"It appears that the Democratic national leadership seems to be a little more self-aware than the Republicans," he added.

No, no it isn't.

"I don’t think he ran against me the entire time," Pelosi told NBC's Kasie Hunt.

Meteor Man's picture

Wow! From the Roll call opinion:

I have often believed that Nancy Pelosi is the only real man in Washington.

She’s got skin thicker than a rhinoceros. She raises money like a hedge fund chairman. Her personal ambitions are as obvious as they are legendary and, unlike the male congressional leaders before her and around her, she never, never, never gives up.

So those are her good qualities?

From Bloomberg:

Congressional leaders are almost always unpopular. Pelosi isn't unpopular because she's a liberal, or from San Francisco, or even because of misogyny. She's unpopular because she's a congressional leader.

No mention of any actual policies or programs she supports or opposes of course.

From the WaPo article:

House speakers become unpopular over time

The chart below shows the net difference between Gallup favorability and unfavorability ratings for each of the past three House speakers during their service in that role.

So compared to Ryan and Boehner she's not that bad!

Issues? We don't need no stinking issues! Not a mention anywhere that the progressive base of the Democratic party hates her for being manipulative and two faced or that she stabs progressive candidates in the back.
