kos just said that all you guys and gals

are nothing but enablers of racists getting in power and that Bernies superdelegate coup is motivated by white privileged feelings of entitlement ... or somesuch.
A Sanders superdelegate coup doesn't need to be motivated by racism to be white privilege

I guess someone likes to incite some hot feelings on dailykos and profit from the excitement and the clicks. Unforgivable.

If this were to happen, our party’s voters of color and the woman they back would be nullified in favor of the white male candidate predominantly supported by white men. This doesn’t mean that those pushing for this outcome, or Bernie Sanders himself, are racist. But it does betray a breathtaking amount of white privilege—a willful refusal to see that the policies they are advocating, for the benefit of themselves, would once again disenfranchise communities of color. They’d get the outcome they wanted, so what’s wrong with that?

To be clear, if you are advocating for Bernie’s superdelegate coup, you are not racist. You certainly have an autocratic lack of respect for the will of the voters, but that doesn’t make you racist. But the outcome of that superdelegate coup would absolutely be racist, And sexist.

Nice try, kos.

Try something else tomorrow. May be you read Jonathan Turley and Bruce Fein on Breaking Through Poser ... just for your own benefit. And think about the egg and chicken problem. What came first? Or may be which coup came first? Who violated "due process" first?

commenting. Heh. There's a file in Mozilla Firefox called "plugincontainer32.exe", right? And it was always jacking up the page views at DK for some reason anyway (it's been like this for months, so I'm not sure if it got worse with DK5 or if it was already bad). Anyway, I went into the filefolder and changed the name of that file, thereby disabling it. And most sites still work okay for me (with the exception of my Amazon prime movie viewer, I had to go back and name the file correctly--when I named it back, it worked fine, so renaming it initially doesn't trash the file outright), but when I try to log on to DK now, I can't get the little login box to open.

HA! That oughta help those of you in Firefox that just can't look away from that bullshit little man and his bullshit little website. Though I never really care to click on him, he's such a fake little Democratic weasel who loves him some fake little Democratic Hillary RestingBitchface Clinton, so they can fuck over the USA. Fuck him and his little orange pony.

Self destructing cookies, good idea!! I wish I'd had them yesterday!

Are you a software engineer? I cut my software teeth on an IMSAI 8080 at the UofO computer lab and then worked at Teklabs (Tektronix) helping to port UNIX from DEC PDP to the then new VAX systems and then onto a Teklabs created desktop computer code named Magnolia. It could run both Smalltalk and UNIX. All this work circa 1975. We got a lot of free help from Xerox Parc. Here is a link to this history which you might find interesting: https://archive.org/stream/bitsavers_tektronixmease_1144901/1982-3-19-VI...

Anyone who can install and operate Linux on their own gets a big tip of the hat from me! I would have recruited you to my team big time!

PS I met Steve Jobs at Xerox Parc. He was there gleaning all the same free knowledge from Xerox that we at Tektronix were. It is Xerox that we owe for Apple products and not Mr Jobs. The proof is the fact that now that Apple has exhausted all the opportunity it borrowed from Xerox, they cannot innovate anything new on their own.

but whenever it comes up, I go back to that folder and rename the file correctly and then restart the browser. Voila. Last time it happened was when I tried to watch an Amazon Prime free movie. Clicked on the movie; got an error; renamed the plugin file back to its real name; restarted Firefox; watched the movie without error; clicked off. Re-munged the file name, went back to my usual web-surfing. Does the container "protect" me from anything in particular that other security misses?

(no, really--serious question, I found this by accident, so if I'm screwing up something else, doing that, it would be good to know)

kos's nasty garbage? Why set c995's kitchen on fire and leave? I flagged the little fascistic authoritarian fucker's tip jar and am now getting offline. Ah well, it's just as well as this farce of a primary has gotten to absurd to get upset about. Who needs the argy bargy. The double speak, circular logic in kos's vitriolic anti-democratic screed is not worth getting worked up about.

Why go there mim? You successfully cut the cord with your GBCW so maybe let it go. It's pure evil. It advocates disenfranchising poc, women and the poor by railing at people who are not buying what Hillary and her white privileged ass are selling. He, BBB, Armando and DO and the rest of the dkos brain washed followers deal in a reality that is so undemocratic it makes your head spin. Talk about privileged. Can't get more white privileged then the Clinton's and yet Bernie is the villain of this piece as he is subverting the people's will and won't knuckle under and let them get on with the rigged farce of a primary as are interfering with the coronation.

There's really no other reason for his doing all he can to alienate real progressives (as opposed to the poseurs of Camp Clinton) while tossing so much red meat to the Republican wing of the Democratic party.

Either that or he's just a bigoted little fuck who got lucky and made his fortune off the backs of his readership.

Don't know about Kos and the CIA, but I'd be shocked if he was NOT on the DNC payroll, or some back channel funding by the Dem establishment. He is full on now a mouthpiece for Hillary Clinton.

He's connected with the New Democrats Network (NDN) through his association with Simon Rosenberg, a centrist mover and shaker in the Democratic Party. He started working ("consulting") for Obama in 2003 for his IL Senate run, as well as for Howard Dean. Him and his bullies directed a lot of hateful vitriol towards Zephr Teachout when she exposed their pay-for-play practices.

stevej's picture

Teachout named two prominent bloggers in particular: Jerome Armstrong of myDD.com and Markos Moulitsas Zuniga of Daily Kos. "On Dean's campaign, we paid Markos and Jerome Armstrong as consultants, largely in order to ensure that they said positive things about Dean. We paid them over twice as much as we paid two staffers of similar backgrounds, and they had several other clients," Teachout wrote. "While they ended up also providing useful advice, the initial reason for our outreach was explicitly to buy their airtime. To be very clear, they never committed to supporting Dean for the payment—but it was very clearly, internally, our goal." In the past, Teachout has also fingered Matthew Gross for writing about Erskine Bowles while Gross was on the candidate's payroll.

-Slate

This gets to the point (same article)

Moulitsas' crime isn't taking money from Howard Dean. He, too, can get away with a suspended sentence for insufficiently disclosing his role in the Dean campaign once he was off the payroll. The hanging offense is that Moulitsas took money from other, undisclosed, political clients. And while he may have disclosed—in 2003—that he wouldn't disclose them, that's not good enough. DailyKos raised money for a dozen congressional candidates this past election. Which, if any, of them paid Moulitsas for the honor of directing his grassroots minions to part with their wallets? If you gave one of Moulitsas' preferred candidates money, wouldn't you like to know if Moulitsas' endorsement was purchased?

Because of his lack of transparency it is only fair to assume that Moulitas is making money by promoting politicians. Anyone who believes that Daily Kos is funded by advertising is probably wrong as the numbers just don't stack up. - it is likely funded by politicians/organizations paying Kos to promote them. In other words he is offering sponsored content without declaring as much. While this may be technically legal it is definitely unethical. In the commercial world all sponsored content has to be declared by law (at least in the US).

Thumb's picture

There's some interesting info in here:

Moulitsas gave an interview in 2006 to the Commonwealth Club. He spoke of the CIA as being a liberal institution he'd have no problem working for. [...] In the interview, Kos said he applied for a position in 2001, and that it was a six-month process. He also said he went all the way to the end and decided against accepting a clandestine spy job to instead work for Howard Dean. The problem is the Dean job started in 2003. While Holland is a bit too adamant about saying Markos admitted to working for the CIA, it's really not his problem. For how does a six-month interview process take up to two years?

http://davefromqueens2.blogspot.com/2009/11/markos-moulitsas-of-daily-ko...

If this is true that he was in CIA training (as he claims) until joining the Dean campaign (2003), it means DailyKos was started and operating while Kos was still going through the CIA's training program, and that they thought highly enough of him to offer clandestine work as a CIA agent.

Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

for the almost 10 years or whatever it was I visited that place. It never made sense to me for someone to have worked for the CIA, quit and start a political website. It takes a few years before a fresh out of college to figure out a firm or institution that they are working for is corrupt and then it takes a few years to find a way out that doesn't mess up your personal finances including paying off college tuition payments if they had a loan. If he did ever work for the CIA I doubt he ever stopped working for the CIA. It may all be conspiracy theory regarding his prior employment which would be a bannable offense .... They can't ban me when I don't bother visiting the site any longer. They need me more than I ever needed them.

I used to read and post on Delphi Forums from time to time.. (for a while too much time)... LONG back there was a forum that was progressive. it even bragged it was FOR progressives. Owning the forum was a woman who claimed to have been a koffee klatcher of Hillary C's as well as a female attorney IN ARKANSAS whose clients were by and large mostly poor black women.

She had a male staffer who was a pip. Loved him. And boy was he progressive, left wing, hilarious... kindly guy and he had progressive degenerative heart disease and most of us didn't know that.

he up and died just before Klintoon made a run at the Oval Office...

This forum owner who called herself JustaGirl had a series of meltdowns, before I ever found her forum and after I'd found it and after her senior staffer died, she did the wildest goddamned backflip I ever saw in my life and went RIGHT WING.. HARD CORE RACIST RIGHT WING.. and never mentioned having been an attorney again. She gathered unto her the meanest snidest racists from all the forums on Delphi and they began cloning one another and assulting people in other forums. In part, only in part -- they were the death of a lot of good forums. It took 'em the better part of 4 or 5 years, but they were thorough.

so nothing little Sandanista/CIA/oh lordy I'm so entitled/who the fuck am I today?/will you still love me tamale? does is particularly surprising.

I've lived too long. Even bad internet SF is repeating itself, like something so indigestible that not even Tums will dam it up.

Bill Clinton regularly insulted and demeaned those groups that were the most solid of the Democratic party base. He insulted Jesse Jackson to his face with Clinton's Sistah Souljah speech. He pushed for the Crime Bill and to significantly destroy the social safety net, both of which have disproportionately harmed AA population. He pushed for NAFTA which helped destroy the unions. And yet those groups continue to support the Clintons. In the Clinton way of thinking is they can get away with it because where else are these groups going to go while it polishes their credentials with conservatives.

Obama did it to the liberal base too by cutting out the public option after running on it. And now Hilary is doing it to those of us on the left. We have been run over, backed into a corner and threatened with guilt trips if we do not accept the lesser of two evils. Well a significant number of people out there have caught on that the Democratic establishment (Clintonism) has not only been abandoning their base, but also insulting it.

in his essay, Andy references a crazy back-and-forth between dclawyer (POC) and kos as one of the reasons he's leaving. but I truly thought this was spot-fucking-on:

Why I'm Leaving Daily Kos
Why in the world you supporters of HRC, including and especially Kos and the FPers are dredging up stuff day after day against a candidate and his supporters when your candidate has won the nomination fight and should be leading the way to unity. It is the worst example of political advocacy I can ever remember. And thats fine too. Its his site.
~ Andy Katz

and here's a taste of dclawyer v kos in Andy's diary:

KOS: I am better than protecting the sanctity of the vote? Actually, I can think of nothing more noble. It takes my breath away how many have so little respect for democracy. And how quickly they’d toss it away to get what they want.

dclawyer: YES, KOS HERE IS EXPLAINING TO AN AFRICAN AMERICAN HOW HE OR SHE DOES NOT RESPECT DEMOCRACY AND HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO VOTE AND STATING THAT THE “DCLAWYER” IS WILLING TO THROW HIS VOTE AWAY TO GET WHAT HE WANTS. I DONT KNOW, I JUST THINK YOU REALLY DONT HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO A PEOPLE WHO COULD NOT VOTE IN LARGE SWATHS OF THE COUNTRY AS LATE AT 1965 HOW IMPORTANT THE VOTE IS.

i can't believe how this ties into your essay, mimi... just wow.

the ALL CAPS portion in Andy Katz DK diary was his (Katz') notes on the matter, not dclawyer's comments.

I saw that whole exchange between kos and dclawyer yesterday more or less n real time. It was pretty disgusting but that whole post was disgusting and so were many of the comments. kos was 'daring' people (in opposition) to come on and make a sound argument & debate him on it. Anyone who just said 'OMG you really are an idiot and a complete tool' (or something to that effect) got sneered at etc. I mean it was so beyond ridiculous, his position, it FOR REAL did not deserve an answer, it was just so baseless and convoluted.

Guess I need to go read Shiz's rant next, lol.

here's the exchange (minus Katz' all caps):

kos (to)dclawyer06 May 27 · 01:02:53 PM

It's not a non response, it's an expression of disgust. I'm trying to be polite.

kos (to)dclawyer06 May 27 · 01:28:25 PM

In other words, a non-response. If you know of a way to excuse tossing aside the votes of predominately brown voters to give the victory to the choice of white voters, and it’s NOT an expression of white privilege, I’d love to hear the argument.

As a bonus, explain how that would be (small “d”) democratic.

dclawyer06 (to)kos May 27 · 01:37:55 PM

No I've said my piece and this is your blog. Given it's demographics, I suspect your curious use of race as a bludgeon to marginalize Bernie Sanders rather than, say, actual engagement in the economic issues we POC face will go over well quite well here. . .

What is funny is that this is Kos's own vendetta, and I think it's about lost readership.

Hillary is working to unify with Bernie lately. Cummings and Bernie have talked about the platform committee.

Right now, Kos is running off people while Hillary is trying to find common ground.

Bernie is supposedly anti-democratic and suppressing black votes, according to Kos. DC Lawyer handed him his ass, but many other folks there will agree with Kos and egg him on.

This is why the Hillary campaign really will keep arms length from Kos and why he never will get to be the establishment.

He does not think strategically, acts impulsively, and does not stay with the program.

Frankly, I am glad he does not support Bernie. He's a loose cannon creating controversy on his blog.

Because he's such a dishonest little prick to actually set a mission statement for his site, disclose and enforce his rules he's gone with this tactic to mold his business and fuck over long term customers. Maybe she'd better get word out to the rest of her machine, b/c they seem to be in an uproar over the possibility of a Bernie/Trump debate, for some reason.

Anyway, she can unify with Bernie all she wants--if she can give him a reasonable enough deal.

For many of us, perhaps even most, that bridge is ashes.

After NV? Like hell are we going to "unify" with them.

It was remarkable how quickly people understood what the purpose of those optics were, and what it means when large numbers of Democrats are being literally framed/blamed for crimes they did not commit--and thus being characterized throughout the national press as dangerous goons.

You do that to people when you want to make it OK to hurt them later.

She might as well have sent Lange and Boxer to douse that bridge with kerosene and toss a match.

gestures. Bernie likely will endorse her at some point. It does not mean that you must.

In an interview with me today, Rep. Elijah Cummings, the chairman of the Democratic convention’s Platform Drafting Committee, stressed that he understood the imperative of reassuring voters about the legitimacy the process, but vowed a level of openness, inclusiveness, and integrity that would succeed at that goal.

Cummings said that he had had private conversations with Sanders, in which the Vermont Senator laid out his hopes for how this all will unfold.

“I have talked to Bernie,” Cummings said. “I told him that the process would be a fair one. He said, ‘Elijah, with you being the chairman, I know that’s what is going to happen. And I’m satisfied that that’s going to happen.'”

“He has not asked for any particular thing,” Cummings continued, speaking about his conversations with Sanders. “What he has said is, ‘I want an open process. I want it to be fair. I want my people to be heard.’ And he said, ‘I believe that you will make sure that this is an open and fair process.'”

snip

“I want this platform committee to act in some way as a unifying vehicle. And I think we can do that,” Cummings said. “I want to make sure that whatever we come up with — and I know it will be a good product — that it is something the candidate will adhere to and will move us forward.”

I'm not in the conversion game. Don't care who you vote for (other than Bernie).

If he is not nominated, vote for whomever you wish.

I will bet you now that 90 to 95% of Bernie voters will vote for Hillary in November if she is nominated. Might be right, might be wrong about doing so, but that is what I predict will happen.

My overall point is that Kos is acting contrary to Hillary's interest.

apologies.

It just makes me cranky to read what I have read by many on TOP or heard in the msm media, that HRC will probably win. I can't hear it anymore. I didn't expect to find it here.

As for spelling out unintended consequences, I just can spell out that I believe too many people get infuriated with constant playing a political russian roulette on the basis of identity issues, the -ism game. It triggers reaction that are not helpful and eventually dangerous. Have you met people in person that couldn't handle those issues calmly? I have, and it's painful to watch and it hurts.

I guess my own reaction to it and my posting here, proves my point as well. Unfortunately.

If it hadn't gotten so many comments, I wished I could take it down. It was absolutely not helpful to post the diary. I admit that.

And, FWIW, I doubt very much that 90-95% of Bernie's supporters are going to rally behind HRC.

Not happening. And I am not alone. I posted my noncompliance from the very beginning because I felt alone and did not want others to feel alone. It did not take long for me to discover that I had a great deal of company.

My guess is that a significant number of the millennial vote will not go over to Hillary. Millennials see through the bullshit. They will either vote third party or forgo the election. I do not believe they will accept the lesser of two evils because neither Hillary nor Trump begins to understand their big picture concerns, primary of which is climate change.

I cannot control what he does.

As for unintended consequences, it would help if you spelled them out.

I'm beginning to feel like I am on Daily Kos talking to you.

If this place becomes that with just a different ideology, I will hit the road.

Have a fun holiday.

People assume that since the left always has come home to support the horrible status quo as embodied by neoliberal Dems, that it always will. I do not so assume. Past is not always prologue.

If the PTB manage to shove this insulting non-choice down the electorate's throat--and every poll indicates that's exactly how the electorate sees it--it doesn't matter how many Bernie supporters say in a poll that they will support Hillary rather than Trump if forced to make the choice. Expressions of support are not the same thing as turnout. (If they were, my job as a campaign manager would have been much easier.)

Here's my prediction: if it's Hillary vs Trump, turnout among white people who don't support Trump will crater. Turnout among POC who are not Black or Latino will crater. I'm not sure what Latinos will do, b/c they are roughly in the same position as Arab-Americans: between a rock and a hard place; both candidates have treated their people horribly, and word of Honduras and the deportation of the children back there has gotten out. It will probably vary according to region and possibly nation of origin. Black people over 40 will turn out for Hillary as strongly as they have all along. White racist xenophobes who like Trump will turn out, obviously. I don't know what Black people under 40 will do.

The much greater danger here is that a progressive who has been successfully put under the thumb of the Clinton machine will be shoehorned in at the Convention as a replacement candidate. Elizabeth Warren is a much greater danger to the movement at this point than the standard "lesser of two evils/we must vote to keep the evil Republican out" standard shibboleth.

One thing the people who continue to believe this miss is that a lot of the "Democrats" who support Bernie only became Democrats *to* support Bernie, and are going to be on their way out again pronto as soon as it's clear that Hillary is going to be served up to them--or shoved down their throats.

thought about Elizabeth Warren becoming a "replacement" candidate. Didn't know that was even possible.

You are a campaign manager, hmm, I remember vaguely ... something about you... but nothing to talk about in front of the children... (sorry, just kidding, it's a good sign when I get silly, it means I beat myself up. Lol Nice to meet you one day, I guess.

might not vote at all, if the choice would be Clinton or Trump and Bernie would lose the primaries or elections I I don't believe he would lose the GE) I believe the younger folks are ready to join movements and continue to engage politically from there. There is a lot left to "occupy".

It was clear as crystal that DWS was taking aim at her baby, the CFPB. And right after that, suddenly Warren turns up on Twitter, acting like Bernie and Clinton don't exist, engaging in a Twitter war with Donald Trump. In fact, her entire presence in social media has been throwing insults back and forth w/Donald Trump.

Ignoring Bernie while attacking Donald is a HRC 2016 campaign strategy. One of them.

If Warren were put forward now--especially since she's known for her wish NOT to be President--I'd be highly suspicious of her as another Trojan Horse--not willingly, in her case--I think she's a good person--but I think she's been bullied into submission.

But neither of us know. We'll find out in November.

the most she'll give is a few words in the platform. Instead of income equality it'll be "raise the tax rate from 36% to 38%".

Hillary would like to unify the party in the sense that she'd like everyone who's ever voted Democratic to vote for her. As far as issues go, forget it.

Even Hillary knows it, IMO; that's why her campaign is so obviously relying on crossover "moderate" Republicans terrified of Trump.

and BTW--the same bullshit being done to Democrats and left wingers to try and arm-twist them into voting Hillary is being done on the other side, to arm-twist people into voting Trump because of fear of Hillary. Right up to and including threats to people's livelihoods/attempts to get them fired, which is now happening on both sides.

It is interesting.

We will see what will happen. I think that if Bernie ends up endorsing Hillary, most Bernie voters will vote for Hillary. Activists may not, but Bernie got millions of votes. I might be wrong. Just a guess.

Your guess is as good as mine. The future has to be lived.

would vote for her. I wouldn't after knowing how she has stolen this nomination and how she considers herself above the law, how she has put this country's secrets at risk; she is a strong man dictator dressed up as a woman. I don't like dictators either male or female.

There is NOTHING that anyone can say to me to get me to vote for her. I am seriously thinking of sitting out the general so that my vote can't be stolen, by some fancy 'switcheroo' in the voting machines.

And I suspect that the majority of Sanders supporters wouldn't vote for her as well.

We shall see.

There is always Music amongst the trees in the Garden, but our hearts must be very quiet to hear it. ~ Minnie Aumonier

The "Democratic" Establishment is still acting as hateful, snotty, and authoritarian as Kos is. He fits in just fine with such jackasses as Feinstein, who had a melt down over Bernie agreeing to debate Trump, declaring Bernie just "wants attention;" and with Manchin, the gun lovin coal company worshippin jerk from West Virginia, who yelled that Bernie's intention to debate Trump was "bullshit" and said Bernie's "not a Democrat." (As if that's some big insult.) They're now doing the heavy lifting since McCaskill and Boxer seem to have grown tired of being the lead bitches. But there are always a couple of professional Democrats front and center to insult everything we believe in - and they're doing it all for a committed liar who never saw a war she didn't like or a union she wasn't ready to sell out. Yeah, Kos fits in just fine with the new Wall Street Party. The whole damn mess has gone full Clinton.
