Back Home again in Indiana- election results
As several of you know, I am a Hoosier by birth and during the last 47.5 years, it was my home until I recently moved to the great state of Washington. Anyway, I am hoping my former state decides to vote for Bernie this evening; however, it will be a close contest.
According to my middle son and wife, (they are still there wrapping things up- school and selling the home), there are tons of Trump signs all over the place. There are some Bernie signs, but very few signs for Hillary. The Sanders rally in downtown Indianapolis last night was huuge according to my son.
Therefore, I am hoping that Alphalop will host the election party this evening (polls close at 6 pm EST) to watch the results, and let us hope that at least my home state does something right and votes for Bernie this evening. We need some good news and to help us continue to fight the good fight. As a side note, watch for Marion and Lake county results- they have big democrat minority voting blocks, so if they break hard for Hillary then Bernie will be in trouble. He must keep it reasonable 15% or so in these counties to have a chance of winning the state.
By the way, one of the reasons I left the state was to get away from the right wing crazies and their BS policies and politics. In addition, I personally know the state director of the Hillary Clinton campaign- it was disappointing to hear he is in charge of her Indiana efforts but not surprising since he is a party person.

speaking of Hillary signs...
I have seen zero here in Portland. Maybe it's my neighborhood. But I've seen Bernie signs (not as many as Obama signs in '08 but then Obama let Hope die), and don't even mention Republicans (Trump or Cruz)! When I was a Precinct Person a few years back I had access to the registration sheets for my area. On my block of maybe 100 or so eligible voters there were 2 Republicans. And they kept quiet about it!
anyway, come on Indiana! Vote for the right guy!
Thanks
Shahryar great insights and feedback. Go Indiana at least do something right, besides producing me
Another expat Hoosier with ya.
But the Fear runs high there, I fear. Hoosier to the end, I guess.
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Seen more Warren signs than Clinton
here in my Seattle neighborhood. Still the Clinton folks were about 1/3 of the caucus.

10 of 15 polling paces closed today in what counties?
they wouldn't be Dem leaning counties by any chance would they?
Are those the counties closing the voting at 6pm this year? you know, the ones who were open until 8pm last time?
Well, the good news is that the lines might be long enough to order out for pizza.

I heard Wells county
closed polls- this is a heavy republican county- potential Cruz voters.
Also heard some St. Joseph County had some temporary polling closings due to suicide nearby (not election related). St. Joseph County is home of South Bend (home of Notre Dame), it is more democratic leaning.
There were some Marion County polling places that opened late this morning (people showing up late)- this is primary a democratic area.
Initial Indiana results 54% to 46%
with 2% reporting
Clinton is 53.7
Sanders 46.3
I predict Hillary by 5 and Trump by 15
Hillary hasn't ran any television ads in Indiana. It's an open primary. Whoever wins will not gain many delegates over the other.
Trump is going to take every delegate except 3 in CD 5 for Cruz.
You aren't allowed to dial random people in Indiana. This is how most polls are conducted. This is why it is hard to get accurate poll data in Indiana.
I think that is about right estimate
I am hoping for a closer contest, but we will see
Originally from Hammond, IN myself.
California now.
Go Bernie, give em some Hoosier Hell.

Race update
8 percent reporting
Clinton- 55.3
Sanders- 44.7
By the way, remaining polls (Lake county and a few others) close in 1 minute.
Pundits keep obsessing over whether Cruz will support Trump
in the general election.
If there was ever a question that I cared less about, it is this one.
They called it for Trump.
The second that the polls closed.
Not knowing results in IN,
I will be interested in seeing the breakdowns, rural/urban and the rest that becomes tedious. I was hoping against likelihood that Bernie could take an improbable midwestern state. KY may go the same, I have ties to both.

I listened to C-SPAN radio on Sunday afternoon
They replay all of the Sunday morning political talk shows with the commercials removed.
Ted Cruz was on every one. I found myself disliking Cruz more with each appearance. I think that Cruz would do better if he just hid out in a cave.
9% Reporting Clinton 51.8% — Sanders 48.2%
The people, united, will never be defeated.
Clinton leads by only 1.2% now. (50.6/49.4)
The people, united, will never be defeated.
I am at work- thanks for the update
And Sanders is in the lead now.
I'm about to wet my pants.
The people, united, will never be defeated.
Woo hoo
Just at this moment, Bern within 1.2% of Hill.
Oops, duplicated you, WaveyDavey!

Indiana is so conservative.
I was surprised when Bernie said he might have a shot.

There are a few liberal spots, but you are right
conservative overall. But they do have some major colleges town plus some old school (liberal) groups.
OMG now Hill leading by under 1%
It may prove evanescent, but sweet, sweet!
Euterpe2
And now dead even, 50% each

Wow

We need to watch Marion and Lake counties returns
These counties have been voting blocks and are Hillary territory- economically depressed areas with large minority populations.
Bernie now up
by 200 statewide. A nailbiter after all?
Euterpe2
Bernie ahead. Hillary bots waiting with the spare ballots
"how many do we need?" they'll ask, and produce at the end. (just a prediction)
Lake county is known for this type
of behavior. Of course this is the county near Chicago- just saying
Here comes Bernie!
Now up by a staggering 206 votes. Am I smelling a landslide? Oh, wait, that's dinner.

Watch Monroe and Tippecanoe counties for Sanders
These counties have big college towns- Indiana University (my alma mater) and Purdue University.
Mine's Monroe, birthplace and alma mater
Now I am sitting down.

Tippecanoe and Tyler, too.

Bernie up by more than 1,000
This site running like molasses for me tonight...
Euterpe2
Yes a lot of people on- growing pains
Me too.
I got an error message at one point.
Sanders will need to build a lead before Lake county and parts
of Marion county report. These counties always report last. By the way, they always under perform in the General Election- meaning Democrats wait for these counties to help them win close races and it never happens.
Sounds like Hill country
all right....

With one notable exception:
Obama 2008!
The earth is a multibillion-year-old sphere.

On 9/11/01 a Boeing 757 (AA77) flew into the Pentagon.
AGCC is happening.

True and good point
I saw Obama in Indianapolis for a 2008 rally. Over 20,000 people and Stevie Wonder played before he spoke- great times. I was hoping that would be the turning point to help increase Democrats strength thru out the state, but no luck.
Bernie up by 1.3%
with 25.9% reporting
Correction, 1.4%!
Euterpe2
and Tyler too?
This was supposed to be a reply to "Watch Monroe and Tippecanoe counties for Sanders"
Bernie by 2883 votes
It is early in the game. Gonna be a nail biter.
Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
Yay!!!!!
Time to shake the piggy bank again. Win or lose (not). Go Bernie.
I'm thinking the same thing.
I think I can go a month without going out to dinner. That money would be better spent on Bernie's campaign than on my ever more visible stomach.
The people, united, will never be defeated.
Bernie Up by almost 7000
Bernie Up by almost 7000 votes with 33.2% in according to the Guardian
Think the Hill People will complain he only won because she didn't campaign?

Most cities are in, AFAICT, so numbers dribble in, wait---Evansville is still out.

A bit of local stuff
NW is going heavily for Sanders - should be enough to negate any shenanigans from the Lake County machine. (for those that don't know the state North Lake County is a continuation of Chicago (same TV market- same sleaze). I used to live there.
I am in Porter County - nothing from here yet but am now really optimistic knowing that there is no Clinton blowout in Indy.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
I grew up near Lake County as well.
I used to jokingly call it "East Chicago, Indiana".
I was 16. I thought it was funny. What did I know.
The people, united, will never be defeated.
Yes but you are from Hammond
from my understanding that is so much better than the rest of Lake county. They are almost like two separate counties- North and South.
Hammond, E. Chicago
Gary, Whiting are all part of N. Lake county which is basically sprawl - extension of Chicago. South is very different - rural more what people think of when they think of Indiana I suspect (my attempt to be diplomatic).
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
I hear you
and understand. Until you have drove thru (hopefully) not visited Gary, you truly do not understand the area.
first results in from
my county (Porter county) - +10% Sanders - yay!!! reflects the surrounding counties.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
No lake county yet, that worries me
It will not be a blow out and it will be close, but I would like a win.
Lake county (near Gary) is famous or infamous for it shenanigans.
By the way, glad you no longer live there. Any place is better- sorry to any Gary residents.
Marion County back in the Sanders column
just now
Euterpe2
Yes but those results are from the outskirts
the county. The outer portions of the county are like suburbs, while the remaining share is downtown urban areas. There are some really run down parts of the county and city of Indianapolis- jobs (manufacturing) left the city in the 70s/80s and some areas are really really poor. So the results from that part of the county are always last to report. Why? Because they do not have the resources to run effective elections- it is criminal.
Thanks for your insights
really appreciate it, even though I wish the facts were different.
Spent some time in and around Evansville for work in the late 80s, eary 90s; it was already sadly down at the heels.

I lived in Miller
(which Gary annexed) on the Lake. 50yds from the beach. If it wasn't for family stuff I'd move back there in a heartbeat

Just looked over at NYT
and the Ohio River Valley counties are worrisome. KY below. But WV next door!
Hey! my dear friends or soon-to-be's, JtC could use the donations to keep this site functioning for those of us who can still see the life preserver or flotsam in the water.
Vanderbrugh County worrisome
Only 13.1% in and almost 2-1 for Hill so far.
Euterpe2
I think these
are very low population counties but could be wrong.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
Sanders up by more than 10,000
with about 40% in....whatever happens, no one can call this a resounding mandate for the Establishment.
Euterpe2
Didn't Clinton go dark?
No advertising, no campaigning? Or did I hear wrong? Trying to save her nickles for the general. If she pulls the plug on spending while Bernie keeps going, there goes her margin.
"The greatest shortcoming of the human race is our inability to understand the exponential function." -- Albert Bartlett
"A species that is hurtling toward extinction has no business promoting slow incremental change." -- Caitlin Johnstone
No advertising in Indiana
Neither candidate is going to gain much delegates over the other.
It is all about the money
She wants to save her resources for the GE- this primary and her limited contributions is hurting her overall campaign- IMHO.
That is why she set up the illegal party PAC to help elect other democrats (mainly the money is just for her campaign).
Ted Cruz is about to speak.
They said that his campaign has little debt so if he drops out, at least he won't stiff everyone the way that Carly Fiorina did.
Bernie's still moving, up from 51.9%
Sanders 159,047 52.1%
Clinton 145,946 47.9%
2,343/5,374 precincts (43.5%) reporting
Help me worry
about Evansville (Vanderburgh County)? Only about 13% of the vote in there, and Bernie down 1,000 votes. This could erase the lead. If we all squeeze our eyes tight shut for a minute and pray (or meditate) real hard.....?!
Euterpe2
It will get closer in Vanderburg- but not huge amount of voters
Lake county is the one to worry about. There are thousands of voters in that corner of the state.
Agree
and don't expect any numbers out of Lake until about 1.00AM Basically if Bernie is ahead by 5% or more he is OK imo - but if its close it will be a case of counting the votes is more important than casting the votes.
“To learn who rules over you, simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize.” -Voltaire
Something funny about Lake already
just now, about 9,000 votes with 2/3 of them for Hillary...and 0 precincts reporting, WTF?
Euterpe2
Early voting results.
Heard earlier on the teevee that Clinton had been pushing early voting.
Sanders up
14,048 votes
52.2% vs. 47.8%

reddit reporting that Cruz just dropped out
NYT reports the same
