If Trump wins he will have both parties trying to stifle anything he tries to get done.

I am afraid of what "Bi-Partisan" legislation Clinton could get passed way more than I am afraid of Trump.

An additional benefit is it will put us in a much stronger position to form a new party and we can point to the fact, "Hey, why not join us? The other party couldn't even choose the candidate that had the best chance of beating Trump for shits sake!"

I think we can take some seats in 2018 if we start building now or merge with the Greens and set ourselves up for a nice challenge in 2020...

I don't think the people have ever been more ready for a new party than right now.

Folks who follow the conventional wisdom claim a new party is guaranteed fail, but folks who follow conventional wisdom have no idea what is going on these days.

People are so disgusted with the status quo. We have a real opportunity here to set something up that has at least a chance of doing good for the country and ourselves. The guaranteed fail is staying within the existing parties.

I feel exactly as you do. Don't fear Trump as much as I do the Clintons back in power.

Best route to the People's Progressive Party is to make sure Clintons go away, fa-a-a-r away. Leave the Democratic Party and take Debbie Wasserman-Shitz with them.

Watch the Summit taking place in Chicago. Think there are too many parties ( egos) trying to figure out what's next. Notie Green Party isn't listed as a partner.

Think it's best to take the cue from what Bernie Sanders does. He's been the catalyst which finally got ALL of us aligned, funding, working together. Trust he and JANE to figure out what's next too.

This is not 2008. Shrillary of course supported Obama, she knew she was gonna run for POTUS again, and she had not choice.

Wish I could get someone to tell her this. Also. She made such a fuss about Bernie "not being a real Democrat" and she thought all primaries should be closed to allow only registered Democrats to vote in the Democratic Primary. NOW, shes' shouting ( someone tell that woman to learn to speak using a microphone) for Independents, and Republicans to all support her.

So, tells us ( I've been an Independent since the Clintons & DLC/Third Way took over what used to be my Democratic party) now to vote for nominee we weren't allowed, in many states, to be a part of selecting! NO WAY.

This "unity" of which she drawls on about, ain't happening. No, not PUMAS, but NOT Democrats - unless the nominee is Bernie Sanders. Jeez, this woman is tone deaf, tho that show with Rachel gave such fodder to Cent Y when he mimics her "I won, I won, I won" - classic.
She talks about what "one does" ( describing what she did in 2008) and I wanna reply "We are not amused" to her "one does." Nope, this is something w-a-a-a-y out of your control Clintons. Bill can point fingers, hack in that phlegmy voice of his, bite his lip, and rant on. He is so past his sell by date.

This is 2016. It is about 25 years - a quarter of a century - since they wrecked havoc in the White House. Why would they be delusional enough to think anyone would want them to do it again. Imagine - Bill in the White House with no responsibilities. Shudder to think of it.

I won't vote for Trump or Hillary but I prefer Trump over Hillary and here is why...he's a fucking buffoon. I don't think anyone on any corner of this planet would take a Trump presidency seriously. We'll be the laughing stock of the world - and rightly so. Shit will be bad in ways we can't even imagine - but at least it will be different shit. With Hillary, shit will be bad exactly how we can imagine it - because it's the status quo. If we're going to elect someone to ruin this country, I'd prefer the guy who will do it quickly and in interesting and inventive ways. No more of this slowly destroying the US - let's pull the plug and call it done.

Additionally, a Clinton win will even more entrench the 3rd wayers control of the DNC and set back the chances of a progressive resurgence by possibly decades.

stance on social security.

I would impose a one-time, 14.25% tax on individuals and trusts with a net worth over $10 million. That would raise $5.7 trillion in new revenue, which we would use to pay off the entire national debt. We would save $200 billion in interest payments, which would allow us to cut taxes on middle-class working families by $100 billion a year or $1 trillion over ten years. We could use the rest of the savings--$100 billion-to bolster the Social Security Trust Fund. By 2030, we [will have] put $3 trillion into the trust Fund, which would make it solvent into the next century.

[In addition to shoring up Social Security for the long term], I say it’s high time to separate Social Security from the general treasury. It is time to lock-box it and throw away the key.

The rich will scream. Only the top 1% of people-those with a net worth of $10 million or more-would be affected by my plan. The other 99% would get deep reductions in heir federal income taxes.

He made this statement in the same year (2000) that he suggested that people could take some of their SS payment s and invest them--sort of a partial privatization. He disagrees with the Federal government doing it, though.

He used to be a Democrat. HRC used to be a Republican (though I am pretty sure that she actually still is). His rhetoric has sought to divide, but so has HRC's.

I can spend all day rationalizing why he will most likely be better all around than her, but doing so just skirts the main issue and that is the direction of the country will not be change unless We the People say, "No. We will not accept this" and that means taking down both parties while building our own.

Before Rachel starts asking her the question.
She knows damn well that Dodd Frank has been so watered down it's basically useless.
And she knows that in the latest omnibus bill that the banks wrote in a provision that when they need more money because of their fraud that there will be a bail in. That means that they can take your money just like what happened in Greece.
And yes she has layed out her position about reining in the banks, but does anyone believe that she will actually do it? The banks don't believe she will do anything to them. Obama fined them billions, but it hardly touched their profits, not one of the head bankers that made the decision to commit fraud which crashed the global economy went to jail, and they are both continuing to do the same things and are bigger then ever.
The people who vote for her are going to get the same shit they got from Obama. More fraud, more wars, more threats to social security, which Clinton was very close to privatizing, but thankfully he screwed around and got caught, and more income inequality.
The Clintons and the banks have been in bed with each other for over 24 years and both parties have gotten a lot from their relationship.

What about the voters who were disenfranchised because they didn't decide six months ago (before the first Dem debate, even) to re-register as Dems so they could vote for Bernie in the primaries? Or the voters who were disenfranchised because some "computer glitch" switched their political affiliation?

What was the number Bernie quoted in his speech after Hillary "won" in NY? Three million people (just in one state, NY) who got caught in that mess and were unable to vote? How many of those three million voters would have voted for Bernie?

What about the other states who had similar "computer glitches?" Or the ones where the votes cast for Bernie switched themselves to Clinton before a person had a chance to even cast their ballot and when they changed it back to Bernie the computer changed it back to Hillary?

What about the fact that Moronic Media ignored Bernie until he and the people who support him became a force to be reckoned with? In spite of them, he still climbed steadily in the polls, and that while Moronic Media, once they acknowledged Bernie's existence, were nasty in their criticism of Bernie.

If Hillary wins, it will not have been "fair and square." It will be by hook or by crook and some fancy computer hacking..., and superdelegates who don't want the hoi polloi to pick their own candidate and will over-ride the will of the people at the convention.

Ergo, I'm voting my conscience. I will fill in the oval next to Bernie's name if it's on my ballot because he won the convention..., or write in Bernie's name..., or leave the presidential section blank and then proceed to vote for down-ticket Dems (my Rep, a superdelegate, has gone with his constituents and endorsed Bernie).

Not even Bernie asking us nicely will get me to vote for Hillary. There are NO circumstances under which I will ever vote for Hillary. None.

Today's elite Dems are like alcoholics with this nonsense of shoving "lesser of two evils" kind of DINO candidates at us, and expecting us to be good little girls and boys who will do as their "betters" in the party tell them to..., and I, for one, have had it! No more! If they don't have good sense in picking a candidate, then we will have to take that responsibility on ourselves and somehow eliminate the superdelegate positions and go back to the old system without them. As Puddytat famously said: "When I go to the grocery store and see a choice between crap cereal and shit cereal, I'm not buying cereal. It's not my problem, it's the cereal makers' problem."

There is only one sane candidate who is consistent on his positions and has been for over 30 years: Bernie Sanders. Even head-to-head polls have him as the ONLY candidate who can beat each of the others by double digits (Hillary loses or is only one or two points ahead of the Rethug rivals, some of which are no longer in the race). Why not go with Bernie, the sure winner who can handily beat Drumpf or any of the other Rethugs? DNC officers, like DWS and some of the superdelegates who endorsed Hillary as of the DNC Summer Meeting last year in Mpls are too stupid or too shortsighted to figure out that Bernie is a sure bet..., and Hillary may well lose - again.

If the elite Dems can't get a win with hacking e-voting computers in states that have them, they'll have to put up with Drumpf or whatever other Rethug garbage they choose who comes out winning against their presumptive nominee who was expected to have an easy walk to the nomination.

If nothing else, let elites lose, hit rock bottom, and see how they like it for backing the losing candidate they so desperately wanted. Maybe next time they'll listen to We the People who know a good candidate when we see one, a candidate who plays straight with us, who wants what's best for We the People, not the big monied interests. Give us the candidate we want, the one who is so well-liked people fill stadiums and overflow buildings or arenas to see him speak, not the one they jury-rigged the primaries to vote for Hillary by eliminating polling places and not getting enough ballots and had all kinds of computer glitches to disenfranchise voters enough to make the most favorite candidate lose in many places. Even if she does win in Nov, the Rethugs will do to her what they did to Obama, only they might be successful with impeaching her over the emails that the FBI are investigating.

We will see, won't we?

Hillary still does NOT get my vote, no matter what.

I think (?) I remember a blank spot for write-in candidates in years past, but I'm not sure and have to check on the rules and regs and laws governing write-in candidates.

I did download a pdf file governing elections in my state from the SoS web site, but the part that allegedly has info on write-ins reads like gobbledegook, so I need an interpreter to understand what it means. Modern lawmakers could sure use a course in Clairity of Writing 101, with special emphasis on the clarity found in the US Constitution as penned by James Madison, and the Declaration of Independence as penned by Thomas Jefferson. Those guys knew how to write a legible and understandable document that even illiterate persons could understand if someone read it to them!

Now that's a clip that's going to have a long life. I had already decided that no way will I vote for her, but talk about strengthening my resolve?
The day al gore announced Lieberman as his running mate I announced to everyone at the job site that for the first time in my life I couldn't vote for the democratic choice for president. I knew bush was a horrible person and so in the end I did vote for the shit sandwich over the crap sandwich. I'm not going to be used like that again. My visceral disgust with Lieberman turned out to be so warranted when after all the fuck ups with getting obamacare passed it looked like lowering the age of Medicare eligibility to 55 was going to be the deal, he single handedly killed it. I'm sure his damn wife working for the insurance companies which are mostly located in CT, and all their contributions had nothing to do with it. Just like Hillaries Wall Street donors won't influence her actions. I'm 64 years old and have seen so much over the years I've learned not to get too excited over political crap, but damn that video has made me really angry.

the Democratic party has no one to blame but themselves. The fact that they'd not just refuse to nominate a candidate with an unprecedented ability to bring Republicans and Independents as well as young Democrats in, but also spit on his supporters over and over again, shows that they'd actually rather a Republican in the White House than have Bernie. DWS and the other party leaders are corrupt as the day is long, but they're not stupid; they've seen all the same matchup polls that we have and they know that independents decide the general election. They're just terrified of a president who might actually take on their corporate masters, and they'd rather flush their own party down the toilet than let that happen. Anyone who thinks that Hillary and Bernie are "on the same side" at this point is delusional and beyond help.

And she said nothing here to change my mind.

By her smug arrogance, she only furthered confirmed my already low opinion of her.

But still [her] tongue ran on, the less
Of weight it bore, with greater ease;
And with its everlasing clack,
Set all [our] ears upon the rack.

You hit the nail on the head. I agree with what you said above. Any small amount of loyalty I had left for my party is now absolutely gone.

I think blind party loyalty is what has allowed both parties to sink to the depths they have.

We can bitch about them all we want, but many of us own partial responsibility as well.

We should have demanded BETTER and not just more Democrats tooth and nail when the DLC first reared it's ugly head.

And the same goes for Republicans, if they didn't have such a fear of anything with a D next to it they would have realized a long time ago that they share MUCH more of a Democratic, and in many ways Progressive beliefs than their party does.

As a former Republican I know the above is true because a LOT of my friends are still Republican (Not that I still talk to the rabid ones so they are not factored into my point.) and we have had many conversations and even at the end, when we have established that they DO indeed share many of the same goals, when I ask them why they won't come over to "The Dark Side" one of the most common responses is, even over guns surprisingly, "I just can't join a group of thinned skinned PC word police".

It's not that they want to run around chanting ethnic slurs either (Well I am sure some do, lol!) it's that they are afraid to say anything because it can be taken out of context and used as an attack.

While this may not be true to as large of an extent as they think, it DOES happen and that is something that many of them just can't stand.

Sure, Republicans frequently can be Dickish, but as the behavior at GOS has shown, they don't hold a monopoly on it either.

I think we COULD get a lot of them to join a "New Progressive Party" (the name I am hoping for Smile ) particularly if at least initially we approached the gun violence issues at the root causes (Prohibition, Poverty, lack of educational opportunities, Virtually no public mental health system, etc) and then see what we need to go for in the future. (Not that we should abandon those controls that we have bi-partisan support for, such as Universal background checks).

I think if we don't make that issue a prime party one we can grow faster and we have a much better chance at getting our party mates to consider more sensible gun reforms then if they are still our "opponents".

Damn, I rambled all over the place in that post huh? lol!

I agree completely, no use any longer to try to reform the Democratic Party. Progressives my age have been trying to do that for over 40 years now and all we have to show for our many years of effort is abject failure.

The Democratic Party is now a right-wing party. Perhaps centrist by US standards, but that is still right-wing.

It's time for progressives to make a complete break with that Corrupt Corporatist Party.

My vote for a name would be Progressive Labor Party, but your choice is a good one also.

I really feel sorry for the kids now days. They're so screwed in just about every way possible.

I cannot stomach HRC and I'm at work and I don't want to be throwing up all over the place. She will NEVER get my vote.

As for DKhaos (I called it that at TOP today, LOL!), Zuniga can bite a monkey's ass. Oh, wait! That would be his own ass! I think he can do it!

Who’s the Boss?

When the Lord made man, all the parts of the body argued over who would be boss.

The brain explained that since he controlled all the parts of the body, he should be boss. The legs argued that since they took man wherever he wanted to go, they should be boss. The stomach countered with the explanation that since he digested all the food, he should be boss. The eyes said that without them man would be helpless, so they should be boss. Then the asshole applied for the job. The other parts of the body laughed so hard at this that the asshole became mad and closed up.

After a few days…

The brain went foggy, the legs got wobbly, the stomach got ill, and the eyes got crossed and unable to see. They all conceded and made the asshole boss.

This proved that you don’t have to be a brain to be boss…

Just an Asshole.
