I Have Zero In Common With The New Democratic Party
As Tommymac noted earlier The Democratic Party of FDR is DEAD.
This verse from American Pie came to mind
I met a girl who sang the blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the sacred store
Where I'd heard the music years before
But the man there said the music wouldn't playAnd in the streets the children screamed
The lovers cried, and the poets dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The church bells all were broken
And the three men I admire most
The Father, Son and the Holy Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day the music died
And they were singin'
They have embraced Citizens United and the ruling from McCutcheon v. Federal Election Commission to the fullest extent.
They have embraced never ending war
They have pardoned war criminals
They have ignored torture
They care nothing about income inequality
They created the prison industrial complex
They give lip service to climate change
They are intent on electing a neocon
They are intent on electing a member of the Fellowship and its darker subsidiary C Street
They are intent on electing someone beholding completely to the corporate oligarchy
Reading this in the Guardian today
New York mayor Bill de Blasio said the “numerous errors” in voter rolls in Brooklyn were evidence that major reforms were needed to the election board and state law.
“The perception that numerous voters may have been disenfranchised undermines the integrity of the entire electoral process and must be fixed,” De Blasio said in a statement.
I'll believe that when I see it, both parties love to disenfranchise and redistrict to their advantage.
Yes, but, but
Trump is worse! Such a wonderful fucking recommendation.
That is not the point, you are intent on electing someone nearly as bad.
Get back to me when she signs TTP and TTIP then she can retire and let the corporations get on with asset stripping the planet. The only time she will be needed is to send the troops in yet again.

What I can't wait to see
is when all the "down ballot" Dems begin to realize that they hitched their ride on a flawed candidate and begin to lose, same will be their fate in 2018. The powers that be will not care, but those who seek power under the Dem label sure will care. All the Dems currently holding onto their jobs by endorsing Shillary should have better long term vision...but they don't.

Ironic. If Stephens schedule was sitting on her unsecured server, she could have very well been the source of the intel as to his whereabouts that made the attack at Benghazi possible.
Given the prima facie evidence if would be very difficult not to find her guilty under 793(F) OF ESPIONAGE ACT, and with her instructions of wipe the backup at Platt River she is very likely to be guilty of trying to conceal and destroy both government documents and evidence.
Even if Obama pardons her, and she runs we are going to either lose of we will have a Republican congress that will have a choice of OTHER impeachable offences to go after her with. Obama can't pardon her from what she is not charged with yet. the DOJ just needs to save a few for the 2ed indictment She will truly serve at the GOP pleasure.
No, the neocons love Hillary - $$$ won't let her be impeached
They're already talking about supporting her, our very own Mad Bomber, over Trump.
Hilariously, the far rightwingers are much happier with her than with Trump. He opposes the TPP and thinks all our undeclared wars are stupid. How can they bleed more money from us without war & the TPP?
I'll be happy to bake fresh pizza so they can work late...

Elsewhere in these discussions, I'm of the opinion that the Board of Elections noises will become as popular as last week's fish dinner. Neither Party has the least interest in changing the way the electorate are denied the vote.
Any revamping of the election process would cause a paradigm shift in power away from the Entrenched to the Dispossessed.

Hilariously enough, Trump isn't - he opposes the TPP, and he thinks all our wars are stupid. They really don't like that. Think of all the money can bleed from us under Hillary but not under Trump!
Sorry, accidental double-post.
Well not exactly.
He has made a few statements about wars. Frankly, his position depends on when you are listening to him.
He has stated that he will "bomb the **** out of ISIS" and made similar statements. So would he do that if elected? I have no idea. I'm not sure he knows what he would do.
It does seem to be true that he support free trade, at least so far, but that's not much of a recommendation.
I certainly agree that Hillary Clinton's positions on the TPP are awful, and she never met a war she didn't like. I have no solutions to that.
And Mother Nature wept
". . .when she signs the TPP. . ."
TPP
I have no doubt that Clinton will gladly sign the TPP but I think it will pass during the lame duck session of Congress and Obama will gladly sign it. It's a death sentence for the livable world, its biodiversity, its sustainable agriculture, and a decent life for people.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
It's a disaster waiting to happen
Yes it is a Disaster-In-Waiting
Instead of renegotiating NAFTA, CAFTA, et al, as promised, Obama has helped concoct - and support - the Tasmanian Devil of corporate take-overs - TPP.
It's going to pass unless Sanders is in the White House. Even if it passes before he takes office, TPP and the others are not treaties, which the original trade pact of 1794 was, and then others were, so Sanders could declare a state of emergency and suspend these giveaways to the international corporations.
It's clearly a long shot but we are dealing with the safety, health, and relative wealth of the wage earners as well as the earth itself so it's best we hope and act on our hopes.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
I agree. Lame duck session, Obama signs.
Sad to see.
Lame Duck Session
There have been many horrors foisted on the American people during lame duck sessions but this upcoming one is shaping up to be one of the worst.
"The justness of individual land right is not justifiable to those to whom the land by right of first claim collectively belonged"
I agree Obama will sign it

I always looked for your diaries on DK and am so pleased that I can still find your voice here. I continue to post on DK for all its worth that I will not vote for a corrupt candidate no matter what the consequences. Your list is spot on and unfortunately could be longer. On top of the problems with Hillary and the DNC, I continue to be drop jawed over the comments by Hillary supporters that basically throw all the positions that the Democratic Party has stood for for years under the proverbial bus. It is appalling! So that sure ain't my gang anymore!
Underneath my sadness over the probable win of Clinton is this excitement over the possibilities of positive change. Occupy, BLM, Democracy Spring etc. are happening outside the Democratic Party and are all signs of what is being stirred among those who have been left outside of the wealth and progress, but seem to be valuable only if we need to get into another war. If we as a country do not address this, we will see a repeat of the violence of the 60's, and won't that be a lovely sight to see outside Hillary's Oval Office window (or Trump's for that matter)? We NEVER learn from history, do we?

I think the reverse. They will endorse
the DLC policies -- no free stuff.
Her polices likely will create an even bigger movement for change. If she wins. She really is a poor candidate.
If she wins, we'll have wars and crackdowns on dissent
You think we'll still be allowed to protest? We'll have to double up in all our already overfilled prisons. Remember, habeas corpus is already gone.
I honestly think that's going to depend
largely on what moves Sanders makes at Convention-time. If he spearheads a movement to go Green, they'll fight us with everything they've got.
Which is exactly why we should do that, of course
Sanders just said he's willing to get rid of nuclear weapons
According to a global zero update I just got. That will fire up the neocons.
Oh, Clinton may get rid of some nukes as well...
by dropping them on Iran.
Hillary Clinton 2016: I'm a proud progmoderate!
I like the idea of "Going Green"
But I also have been serieously thinking that with the amount of supporters Sanders has now might be the perfect time to start a new party that doesn't come with any preconceived negatives (regardless of validity) to overcome.
Ideally, Sanders and the greens could form a coalition and call it "The Aqua party".
If we keep all the same positions that are so popular and don't focus on the divisive gun control issue we can pick up a LOT of independents as well as disenchanted or disenfranchised dems.
I think if we focus, at least initially, on the issues that lead to gun violence, we will see a big reduction, and then once we are firmly established we can start pushing a bit harder for sensible gun laws.
We have to face the fact that a LOT of democrats, regardless of reasons, are to one degree or another pro-gun ownership and if we want to build a REAL big tent we can't alienate them.
Let's get them in the fold instead, get the things passed that we do agree on 100% and then worry about the more contentious issues.
As a former republican, I can tell you with absolute certainty that we would pick up a lot more centrist republicans as well as left leaning indies if we were not pushing so hard for gun control laws that are really only feel good measures for the most part.
More than one of my friends that are still republican have told me many times that the biggest reason they are still against the dems despite how nutty the Repubs have gotten is because of guns.
We can't continue to let that one issue block us from accomplishing all the other important items in front of us. (Particularly when you factor in that we have made pretty much zero progress on this issue over the last 30 years.)
"I used to vote Republican & Democrat, I also used to shit my pants. Eventually I got smart enough to stop doing both things." -Me
I understand the name thing
But the Green Party is already on the ballot on about half of the states and is in process for more.
BTW, those already Green friendly have the largest populations and therefore the greater electoral college votes. Especially if we can succeed in getting Pennsylvania on board. They're working on that now.
Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
The Greens are a good starting point
Because they do provide some basic structure and they are not corrupted by the establishment. I think eventually we need to get beyond party labels and just concentrate on problem solving. I think, with the help of the internet, that might be where our politics evolve.
Beware the bullshit factories.
I'm on board, time for a new party
has to be broader than the greens.
I was on a few Labor for Bernie calls, and I've never heard top leaders of labor unions talk the way they did about the Democratic Party, not even some 20 years ago when there was an actual push within the labor movement to build a Labor Party.
I cannot see the unions that endorsed Bernie supporting Hillary if she gets the nomination. Maybe some, but she is connected to TPP no matter what she says now.
Time to reach out to the unions that supported Bernie and the Greens, bring them together, Working Families Party, etc...only a broad coalition can build a new party and make that party viable.

Hillary Clinton 2016: I'm a proud progmoderate!
I find this unlikely.
My sense is that the most ardent Clinton supporters are primarily the ardent Obama supporters that continued to defend him vigorously after his monumental cave on health care reform, his surveillance policies, his cabinet appointments and his pushing of the TPP. The playbook will be predictable. We'll be blamed for any of her failures or it will be said that she has to do these things because she's a woman (just as it was said Obama couldn't do certain things because he's black).
I was thinking earlier today
that no matter what happens the Clinton crowd is going to end up blaming the Sanders crowd for something. If she gets the nomination and loses the GE, it will be Sanders' fault, no matter how easy it is to show it is her fault. If she is elected the "hippy punching" will start (or continue) and obvious Republican obstructionism will be at least partially charged to "those Sanders' people who refused to support me". And if Sanders is elected, they'll join the Republicans in the obstruction, possibly with a "he deserves it because it is his fault that Clinton wasn't elected."

Turning 21 . . .
. . . becoming an adult we are supposed to put childish things aside and shoulder the responsibility for our destiny. I had made that transition two years earlier and Don McLean's lyrics resonated with the mood of the time. He was always cagey about interpreting the lyrics, so we all (I, of course, am authorized to speak for everyone of my age‽) took this to be about Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. The notion that it could be applied to the general mood of the day did not occur to me at all.
Thanks, LaFeminista, for keeping it real, and relevant to this day.

I'm not saying voting every really did matter. We all know it's been rigged and such. Clinton is one of the most corrupt people. Even her cheerleaders can't keep up with her lies.
We won't vote for Trump or Hillary because we don't vote Rapepublican in this house.

Well, what usually happens in many cases...
Is massive civil unrest, up to and including armed conflict with the authorities.
Don't think it can't happen here as terrible of a thought as that may be.
There are pretty much 2 things that change a political system, Bullets or Ballots.
If they take away our ballots what does that leave the American People?
About 8 or so years ago, I started predicting that one of the likely possible futures for the US if things don't change for the better soon is that we may end up pulling a Soviet Union style collapse rather than an armed insurrection and we may see the United States reform into a confederation of independent nation states with a structure similar to that of the EU.
(For the record, I am not calling for armed insurrection against the federal government, I am just pointing out historical trends and the usual outcomes.)
"I used to vote Republican & Democrat, I also used to shit my pants. Eventually I got smart enough to stop doing both things." -Me
Don't like armed rebellion either
In any given situation, the Establishment has bigger/more guns. That's why they are in power. Of course, the US has a lot of armed citizens.
Still, civil war is a bitch.
Life is strong. I'm weak, but Life is strong.
Asymmetrical warfare is always ugly...
Especially when you're on the side that is outgunned.
Course since the establishment will be using drones, etc... you can depend on the people to resort to tactics associated mostly with the Middle East. And yes, the Media will call them Terrorists, because that's what the media does.
It will not be pretty, and it can and will happen here if the politicians don't wake the fuck up to what's happening.
I do not pretend I know what I do not know.
None of us WANT civil war.
But if Bernie fails to be elected President, if you don't seriously fear civil war, you aren't paying attention.

I really think we
need to stop bowing to that blackmail that says we have to hold our nose and vote dem if we live in a swing state. If we continue with the lesser of two evils argument this will continue forever. If the Sanders campaign has demonstrated anything, it's that the numbers are out there to begin building another party if only people refuse this sort of logic.

I think I finally reached the end of my ability to care
Yesterday may well be the LAST presidential primary I will ever participate in, due to advancing age and failing health, and this morning I kind of realize I no longer care about the things my "party" cares about and I no longer feel any affiliation with that party. I find most of what the party pushes offensive and see a very troubling move. In both parties to divide by RACE.
for me, the two political parties are fighting for who becomes a regional party only first. I find the entire Southern firewall mindset offensive. I find the white people's party equally offensive and now find I am without a party that represents ME.
while I will remain a registered democrat I no longer see myself as one. I now consider myself a member of the fastest growing and largest group of voters in America... NO. affiliated independents.
Losing me and others like me may or may not matter to the dem party
that we don't matter is a serious part of the problem. Both parties will face going forward. I genuinely believe we are watching the death knell of the old style D/R era of American politics.
I won't fall in line for my party. And I WILL continue to vote for candidates like Bernie ... And advocate that younger voters follow suit.
Today I was told I need to start donating to down tic dems and I decided I would BUT not the down ticket dems the party wants me to fall in line behind. I made a small donation to a couple of progressive democrats I support. And the party can blow me.

Unbelievable
Ya know, I watched this map last night and I was having a really hard time.
Okay, early on it was obvious that she took NYC. But in the entire rest of the state I watched as county after county popped up a bright green - meaning Bernie had won them. In some of them, by large margins. In the end, out of the entire state of New York, she won 11 counties. There are a total of 62 of them in New York, and she only had 11. That means in 51 counties more people voted for Bernie than her. And he "lost" how?
Now I know she had all but one of the big population centers. But are they telling us that there are more people in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and the NYC metro area than in the entire rest of the state?
I've never watched a primary this closely before, so maybe I don't grok all the nuances. But look at that map. Point at the individual counties and check out the margin of the votes. Then 'splain to me how she strolled into the winner's circle.
Or does it have something to do with the AP calling it for her at 9:49 p.m. with only 35% of the vote counted?
Meddle not in the affairs of Dragons - For thou art crunchy and good with ketchup
Actually there are more people there
and more importantly, more registered Democrats.
When I saw they pulled an AZ in NYC I knew it was game over.

Not MY nabe... In Bklyn. We gave BERNIE A win. :)
And Bernie's win in my nabe is probably giving the party some agita today because they have no place left where I live to gerrymander and the republicans keep moving into the democratic zone and it now seems the ONLY thing that will keep my congressional seat Blue... Is US BERNIE voters
Wonder what will happen if the working family party puts BERNIE at the top of their ticket in NY... It might make the WFP the 2 Nd largest politicL party here... Many progressive dems already cast our votes for dems on the WFP line...
If the dems and WFP have different candidates at the top of their tickets this time .... Hmmmmm

I just want to say
I have been reading all these comments and I just have not had the strength of spirit to vent my outright anger. I appreciate what so many of you have posted because it captures what is in my heart right now. I had thought I would be writing in Bernie's name in the general, if Hillary gets the nomination. But now I am thinking that I may turn to the Green party. I have to think long and hard about this decision but it is now starting to make sense.
There is an enormous amount of anger out there that the establishment and their apologists are willfully ignoring. The youth of this country are so ready for a real change, not some faux caretaker government that continues to ignore the vast number of serious problems in this nation.
I am fearful that this will not end well. People are becoming desperate and desperate people have nothing to lose. This election offered a candidate who could save this country and give the people, particularly the young people, a future that they deserve but the greedy oligarchs do not have the foresight to save themselves and the rest of us from a very bleak future. I am truly in mourning.

I've never taken
the Greens seriously (despite them being my natural home) because I always thought I'd be throwing away my vote. Since the monumental disappointment and betrayal by Obama and co-- and now this utterly blatant corruption --I've been forced to think about what I'm really voting for by voting dem. I don't see how they represent us. Yeah, so I can marry someone now if I want. Alright, but that was the action of activists and the supreme court, not the party. I don't see the party doing anything meaningful to address climate change or economic injustice. I see it as a part of the problem. Given how much support Sanders got throughout this primary we might have finally reached a boiling point where something like a third party will be viable in the future. At least I'd feel good about my efforts there.

The Greens are at worst a logical rest stop along our road
Dropping out is what they want us to do if we won't play in one of the two approved sandboxes.
My current thoughts are to roll with Bernie all the way to the convention, vote Stein in November, but for now I plan to remain a Democrat so I can keep pissing in the tent and be a gremlin in the Turd Way gears best I can manage.
Don't stop voting and agitating. Vote Green, Socialist, Workers, the Rent is too damn high and drag others to the windmill tilt. The frustration and anger MUST be measurable and observable beyond the continued flow to the couches nothing is easier for them to utterly ignore or even high five and back slap over for those with all the power.
People have fooled themselves
about the strategy of holding your nose and voting for lousy candidates. The individual voter sacrifices all commitment to what their conscience is telling them to do in return for very lousy government. People do this in hopes of the next election being better, but they never are, why should they be? Until the politicians and money people get their asses handed to them, there's no change in sight.
"Trump is worse" ?
When one considers that nearly everything bad we know about Trump is near-certain to be pander, the trope of "Trump is worse" rapidly ceases to apply to every other 2016 Presidential candidate -- except Bernie.
IOW, we'd probably be better off with Trump than we'd be with Hillary. [shudder!]
