empty skinny popup dialog a few times myself. I think one thing that causes it is when the image file is too large- the site's image import scaler sometimes throws up.
I've worked around that by going into Gimp (the open-source Photoshop equivalent) and scaling them down to a size the site's scaler can handle. Hope that helps!

It's because you're trying to upload an image that's too large. The limits in size are 1 MB and a width of 500 px. The limits are there to keep our server from being overloaded with images that are too large.
If you upload an image that is less than 1 MB but wider than 500 px it will automatically be cropped to 500 px and that will lessen the resolution of the image.
The best practice is to import the image into a graphics editor and resize it to 500 px wide and then upload it, you'll get less loss of resolution that way.
