OT WE 21 OCT 26 ~ Back to the Future Day

This date is celebrated as Back to the Future Day because the movie famously portrayed October 21, 2015 as the future year visited by its characters.
Can't say I ever watched the movie, but I sorta like the story line.
Can we effect the future by traveling back in time and changing future things?
It is a recurring theme in many sci-fi stories.
If only I had known then what is lived now...
Going back in time --
1949 Aldous Huxley, author of "Brave New World," writes to congratulate George Orwell on his new novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four"

1967 Tens of thousands of anti-Vietnam War protesters march on the Pentagon, besieging the military headquarters for two days
1929 Ursula K. Le Guin born

1969 Jack Kerouac died

That should open things up a bit. In the spirit of open threads add whatever you have.
Before I forget, what are you listening to? I have a few online radio stations programmed
including - WBXF, KCSX, KGLT, WUMB. For those unfamiliar, the letter K indicates west of
the Mississippi River, while the preceding W is east of that boundary.

Hey, good morning
.
the future is now, regardless of the date or time.
Ye olde eternal now. The past is history and tomorrow is
little more than wishful thinking. A couple of headliners this AM -

What does it look like from your perspective?

Good morning...
It is sweet tater digging week. Two more beds to go. They go into the water heater room to cure for a couple weeks. They should be ready by Thanksgiving.
Yesterday, I got a couple of small loads of reground asphalt. One was pretty lumpy. I've got to rework that area with the box scrape today. Always something.
As to the future, I was a sci fi fan in my youth. I read all the books in your post years ago, including the Kerouac. One of the books of the future that stuck in my mind was Future Shock. The theme is change happens faster than we can adapt. Synopsis here.
Hope you all have a good day, and thanks for the OT!
“Until justice rolls down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
Yes, remember Future Shock after reading the synopsis
Think it was required reading in one of my lit courses.
Just finished Shock Wave Rider in a similar vein, although
set in a near future dystopia.
"One man has made it his mission to liberate the mental prisoners. to restore their freedom
in a world run mad."
Sound familiar? Good luck with the asphalt. I've got to go out and cover the woodpile
before the next rain storm comes in tonight. Enjoy your sweet taters!

Good morning Cap'n Q, thanks for the OT. Kerouac were
a major influence on me in my youth and were at least a factor in my decision to go to Cal, since He and several others did spend some time in Berkeley and write about it as well.
Meanwhile, I think that we have to call "the future" a continually evolving hypothesis, constantly tested and revised or, a persistent myth. Zen was an influence on many of the beats, and a profound one on Gary Snyder, and I think they would agree with that assessment, in a theoretical sense, if pushed to do so, but the more zen they were, the less likely they were to ever contemplate or think about the future, because of the primacy of the eternal now. We too should tend in that direction, at least as to all the aspects which we cannot influence or change.
Thanks btw, for the Ventures, a great band of my youth. It's amazing how much gum chewing is going on in those crowd shots. I will make a note of those radio stations you list. I have a couple of music apps I listen to Serius in the car, it or jazzradio around the house and my own custom channel/station on LiveOne which is pretty wild a crazy. I built it years ago when it was Slacker I wouold pick an artist and choose them and "artists like them" starting with the blues greats, then rock greats, but more like bo diddley and the ventures than like elvis or anka, then assorted mariachis, all of doug sahm's groups, babatunde olatunji, all ths airplane/dead/qms/etc. groups, and a whole bunch or world stuff, miriam makeba, taureg, etc. It is set to shuffle so one gets really crazy sequences.
Anyhoo, still in the midst of a serious attack on ye olde project list so off I go.
be well and have a good one.

Good morning, Cap'n!
A wealthy man owned the property adjacent to one side of my office. It consisted of a chain link fence around an open walled metal shed. He stored junk for all to see. For several years, he stored a Delorean. When giving clients directions to my office, I told them to look for a Delorean, and I am next door.
I never saw it driven or moved. His son took it away when the old guy died.

If this MoA
commenter is correct, Russia sold energy to Europe through a pipeline in Ukraine. Ukraine constantly blackmailed Russia into paying more for the transport. Then, Russia built Nordstream. Supposedly the US is lifting sanctions on Russian natural gas sales conditioned upon them using Ukraine's pipeline.
sigh...Here is a short Ritter's Rant:
