Walk in the woods

A real temperate rainforest in the Pacific Northwest.
Riffing off of enhydra lutris' OP yesterday.
I grew up in So Cal, a desert plied with water piped in from far away places. At one time I lived in Angeles National Forest above Saugus, now known as $anta Clarita. A forest largely no taller than 10'. Lots of scrub brush, creosote bushes, and rattlesnakes.
I hiked many trails down there, including the Pacific Crest Trail in many places, and loved being outdoors among the trees and wildlife.
But I yearned for bigger trees, and canopies, and more primordial foliage.
I was looking for a rainforest.
When I moved to the PNW, I was amazed at the prevalence of trails through Wilderness areas, many if not most cut through temperate rainforests.
Exotic names such as Opal Creek, Trapper Creek, Indian Heaven, Three Sisters, and the Wild Sky Wilderness areas are but a few of the 78 wilderness areas in Washington and Oregon states alone that I have explored.
These areas are federally protected, prohibiting all roads and/or commercial uses. Only hiking trails and primitive campsites are allowed. Backpackers only!
It was the PNW forests that sparked my bucket list of hiking through a Tropical Rainforest, which took me to Costa Rica and one of the deepest, darkest rainforests on the planet, the Corcovado National Park. Ultimately, I got to the Daintree Rainforest in Queensland, Australia, which was tropical, and a Tasmanian temperate rainforest.
Very different extremes.
Daintree at 11 degrees south and Tasmanian forests at 44 degrees south.
While age (77)makes my deep hikes a thing of the past, I can and still do smaller, shorter excursions into areas I haven't yet visited.
As long as I can stand on my two legs, I will continue walking through the woods.
Thanks for the prompt, EL.

in South and Central America, Australia, Canada and Washington. The Hoh is the only one where I awoke one morning to find a herd of elk herd of Elk in the next campsite. One of the forests or maybe 2 of them in Kenya might also qualify.

Sorry I jumped on your spot. Now that I think about it, it is Thursday that I need to keep an eye on. Oops.

be well and have a good one

Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.

Gorgeous photo, friend!
I live in a national forest area. Piney Woods, the Sam Houston National Forest, tall trees, filled with animals, make your own trail, enjoy the peace and quiet. Avoid tree rattlers.
I, too, went to Costa Rica and visited the Corcovado National Park, then 2 trips to The Amazon.
Keep walking the trails, and carry your camera, ok?

@earthling1 I visited rainforests in Kenya, Cambodia, Laos, and Thailand. The only trip I took to Canada was to visit Bamff National Park, so I missed out on lush forest.
I never had any real interest in further trips to Canada. It is way to expensive. Even in the early 80s, prices were insane for travelers.

at least until the plumbing fails and a few fighter jets
slide overboard. ya know the biggest, most screwed up
military farce in the world! As long as they stand-off about
1000 miles offshore, they should be ok.

Zionism is a social disease

@QMS They can't even provide them with water or ammo if the marines make landfall.
They will be slaughtered.

We never leave the grocery store that the cart doesn't include something to put in the stock up pantry, which is expanding to be a room of stock.
