Friday Night Photos County Fair Edition pt2
Submitted by Socialprogressive on Fri, 07/10/2026 - 5:00pm
Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.
In part 2 of the county fair series we'll explore the art of woodworking, something I was never any good at. When it comes to woodworking my only skill was taking a perfectly good piece of wood and turning it into a pile of sawdust.
Best in show for the woodworking contest.

Hi Social
That is truly some amazing woodwork, which you so expertly presented. Thank you.
It was a treat to hear that song so differently performed.
Thank you, Janis
I thought the jazz would be a nice chance of pace from the rock based music I usually include.

Hi all
A very cold, but clear morning at the beach
Enjoy the weekend everyone
Hi, janis
Nice blue shoes you got there. I hope they're waterproof. Love both the sand pattern shots.

Thank you Social
The birkenstocks are surely waterproof, and have been for 35 years. I hate cold wet feet.
Cold wet feet
are not my favorite either. When you get right down to it, cold wet anything are not my favorite.

Pretty sure my tools are not sharp enough
.
To duplicate these works of art
(to say nothing of the required skill set).
Thanks for sharing the photos.

Hi, Q
Even if I had sharp woodworking tools, on my best days I'd only be able to make a pile of sawdust.

Just got back
from an absolutely wonderful outdoor show- top shelf bluegrass, with some neat and nonobvious twists.
All I’ll say is Chicken Wire Empire. Out of Milwaukee, and all of the players were stellar. Check ‘em out, if you would like something different and curiously ageless.

Hi, usf
One good recommendation deserves another. Check out Greensky Bluegrass, a bluegrass band out of Michigan.

The journalist and Miss Granny
he Last Emperor: Theme Variation 1 Sakamoto Ryūichi
Full Moon 坂本龍一; Sakamoto Ryūichi
Because we don't know when we will die
We get to think of life as an inexhaustible well
Yet everything happens only a certain number of times
And a very small number, really
How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood
Some afternoon that is so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive your life without it?
Perhaps four or five times more
Perhaps not even that
How many more times will you watch the full moon rise?
Perhaps twenty, and yet it all seems limitless
In all the languages he recorded the piece:
Full Moon
I learned of Sakamoto's work yesterday from an interview of Korean actress Sim Eun-kyung, who did the Korean version of the movie, Miss Granny. There is also a Philippine version. I vaguely recalled seeing her in Miss Granny about ten years ago. She was interviewed by Son Seok-hui, the prominent South Korean journalist who is imo, one of the great journalists of our time. The interview was about her "playlist" which was interesting because she doesn't consider herself a good musician or singer. But she says she did play a role in selecting pieces for the soundtrack-
Son did an interview the week before with some creative writers, who were discussing the notion of a life span, and what would you do if you knew you had 40 more years? Son said he was stuck in "reality" and didn't often think of what he could have been, and that at his age, he was reluctant to consider living to 100, to go down another path of expression, because it wasn't realistic. This is ironic, Son is doing exactly what he wants to do, I think. I think if had one day, or twenty years, I would just do what I'm doing. The hypothetical was based upon conjecture that some experts were predicting that human longevity would continue to be extended.
SP that woodwork is incredible! I will have to show your photos to my son in law, who is really into woodwork, put together a shop recently, and produces very similar geometric patterns as that beautiful guitar, but not so sophisticated yet as that guitar, because he is a novice. I think its free form of the curves that are truly impressive. He gave Ms. So his first piece, a cutting board that looks like a chess board.
Thanks for your Friday Night Photos SP!

Interesting music

Not sure of the message, but the feelings come thru.
Pretty sure this body will not be around too long but
the spirit may exist forever. I'm only sharing it for a spell.

Hi, soryang
Part of me would like to live another 40 years. That would put me over the century mark, a milestone most people don't achieve. The other part say's as bad as things have gotten over the last 40 years, I don't know if I want to be around for the next 40 cuz things ain't looking so good for the future.
Thanks for the music.

Sp, I'm late in arriving to the comment
party, yet again.
The strength, dexterity, and skill needed just to do that intricate woodcarving would take me a million lives to achieve. Add in the creativity. Those pieces are beyond amazing! Thank you (!) for posting them. "Norwegian Wood" was John Lennon just starting to flex his writing/bard muscles. Jazz guys like Buddy Rich and Wes Montgomery were no slouches, either. Great cover. And thank you, jb, for the peaceful lovely seashore images. Always needed and appreciated. soryang, I do not want to live another 40 years! 70+ have been plenty interesting and enough! Anywho, ECFL atmosphere has been full of Sahara desert dust. Hurricanes hate it. So far, so good this storm season though it has been intense: heat, humidity, and t-storms. Nothing new about the normal. Climate change, mebbe? Snort! And on that note, Rec'd!!

Hi OBF!
Our weather here where we are north of Tampa is strange. Can be cloudy all day, then some of occasional thunder and lightning, then just a few drops of rain. A fair amount of newly planted landscaping is dying because it's not enough. The county has water restrictions including the reclaimed water. There could be storms clouds moving through all day long, and we'll get O.14 inch of rain, which in this heat, dries up right away. Heat advisories almost every day. The dust here is pretty bad too.
I hear ya on the prospect of increased longevity. What you posted OBF reminded me of an old Teresa Teng song from 1983. The link below and just a few lines. I recall vaguely that the songs on her 1983 album with this track were variations on old Chinese classical poems.

Hi, obf
You're never to late. Just think of it as spreading the joy over a longer time span. 94°and 36% humidity here today with more of the same for the next few days.
