OT WE 4 MAR 26 ~ This is not a war

Odd Use of Semantics

~

Seems daffy donnie and his merry band of minions can not agree on terminology guidelines regurgitated for the
press stenographers. What appears as mixed messaging is being sold as gospel. One camp wants to call it a
'strike' to circumvent constitutional responsibility. An impeachable offense.

The other camp likes to banter the 'war' word to engender power and fear. Some mix-up the two definitions in a
single statement. Not for clarity purposes mind you. This hinges on the loose brain syndrome endemic to the
present administration.

gettyimages-2263996887-2.jpg

Try explaining this to the 170 dead school girls. Or their parents, siblings and relatives.
War is hell on the targeted country. Even if it is not declared as such, it sure resembles one.
A form of evil sickness. Can you find an upside to this?

Open thread. Take it away.

Something has to give in this miscalculation.
The psychopaths in charge may not recognize
their butchery for all of the cheerleading by Bibi
and the US neocons. War contractors are quite content
by the dollars pouring into their coffers.

Zionism is a social disease

Lookout's picture

the end of Zionist Israel and the US empire.

TPTB sure have the spin cycle going saying the US is winning bigly. Yeah, right.

Hope your weather is improving. We're headed to 80's the rest of the week. However, we're dry.

Thanks for the OT!

@Lookout
but the US government will likely use up its ammo, declare victory, blame Israel for everything that did not go as planned and retire en masse on their bloated insider trading ‘investment’ accounts.

What happens when a narcissist meets the truth of his abject failure? Or is that categorical impossible?

I envy your boon of warm weather. I’m still busy shoveling snow and cleaning up downed trees here in NE!

Texas held the primary election yesterday. Jasmine Crockett is gone. Cornyn heads to a run off.
At the county level here at home, the crooked judges all held on, the district attorney got beat by a lawyer who has never practiced criminal law, and several folks working in county government are leaving the county entirely.
Selling my office property and retiring sounds like a great plan this morning!

"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981

We're at the point where the administration babbles some shit, the news reports it. They can throw out any string of words and that's it. They don't care. We don't count. I think our rulers look at us like the North Korean government views it's citizens.

We deserve this. It only took a year to get here with the most anemic push back. We've heard about democratic leadership for years. Where are they? All I see are self important middle managers dithering around spouting ineffective focus group drivel, mildly annoyed at circumstances and awaiting their turn next election.

But we've been fast-tracking this path since 9/11: the Neocon's Pearl Harbor.

I thought it offered a pretty objective view of the latest war that the US is about to lose:

Cassiodorus's picture

@Pluto's Republic -- at least not yet -- that the US will "lose" this war. Rather:

1) Iran feels it is ready to wage war for a "very long time"

2) Everyone knows now that the US cannot be trusted, and that only useful idiots support the US. The Israeli plan for Iran, the only one that matters, is to do to Iran what has been done to Libya and Syria (or maybe a comparison can be drawn with the former Yugoslavia). Nobody outside of a few country clubs in the US is buying "the Shah."

3) The war has spread and will spread further -- watch Bahrain and Iraq for the next action. The US will support the Kurds, who will instead attack the Turks in Syria.

In short, we should imagine a long, very ugly, war. Holding one's breath is not advised.

"There will be no deal with Iran except UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER" -- Donald J. Trump

"The political situation is worsening for the US each day" -- Simplicius the Thinker

@Cassiodorus and if countries other than Iran enter the fray and attack Israel, will we be obligated to directly attack that country? What about "terrorist" attacks traced back to non self identified opponents? What kind of written and unwritten treaties do we have with Israel? Get the feeling no matter what color gets control of the government, our colonial masters will make sure nothing changes. Maybe Trump will issue a royal decree to allow Netanyahu assume the presidency when he's done.

1) The Kellogg-Briand Pact, signed by the US on August 27, 1928, prohibits the use of war or threats of war to resolve political disputes and only allows for defensive wars.

2) Article 6, paragraph 2 of the US Constitution says:

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.

3)We have not declared war since 1928, in WWII Congress did pass the appropriate authorization but, we Recognized that a state of war existed due to and since the bombing of Pearl Harbor and did not affirmatively declare war, though we arguably could have since it was, technically, a defensive war. All of our other wars, military, economic, or through assassinations or coups have been called something else.

4) Politics, at one level, is all about semantics, which is why blowhards proliferate in said arena. A "major military operation" is clearly a war, but, no, it isn't because it was not declared to be such. You cannot violate the Constitution or become a war criminal for merely "authorizing the use of military force" and you can commit all of the acts of war you feel like if you "don't have boots on the ground", etc.

5) Some hold that there can be such a thing as a Preemptive war though there is not universal agreement to this. Bush the lesser further muddied the water with talk of a preventive war. Those who maintain that wars can exist have outlined its characteristics to include the immanent threat of an attack on the perpetrator by the victim. Various ancillary babble as to what must be present in the way of evidence of the existence of such a threat is part of the definition. Arguably no known war has ever met the required criteria.

6) Since WW II the US elites and oligarchs have been determined to rule the entire world directly or indirectly. I would argue that this drive started well before that, especially in the western hemisphere. We cannot sell our political and economic processes to the ROW, because they are exploitive, oppressive and more, but we can sell them to other oligarchs and elites, or, alternatively install such others as the governing authorities of targeted states or populations.

Ergo, the US indulges in endless warfare, both military and economic, but always shrouds it in vast shitloads of bafflegab. The current illegal war (by both US and international standards) is but a continuation and exemplar of this process.

That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --

sitting in a chair, reciting his carefully drafted response to Trump and his weird little war. I never had any respect for Clinton as a political leader, but he does have the gift of gab. I cannot find it this morning, which smells funky. His talk was simple, rational and right on the dime as he went through the Constitutional provision about war requiring the approval of Congress. He went on to note how Trump presented his own rationale for war on Truth Social instead of asking for Congressional approval. My guess is he could have gotten a bare majority in both the House and Senate, but that ain't Trump's style to ask permission for anything, let alone for World War III.

The mandated silence coming from the "battlefield" suggests that things are not going according to plan.

Let's assume that the next imam up in Tehran to be the Ayatollah Junior Flip goes on global TV to beg forgiveness from Mister Trump, and invites inspectors to "go anywhere in the country to confirm we have no nukes being made."

Do the main stream media and the Bill Clinton Clique stand up and cheer the triumph?

Maybe I am being naive, but I think our corrupt culture is not also simply crackers like Trump.

This is nutty yahoos deliberate attempt to embroil the region
in his escapade, but they are not buying it. Placing the blame
where it belongs in Israel. They understand Iran is reacting to
attacks and are only targeting IZ/US assets. A more major
miscalculation by the west would be hard to imagine at this
point. My $.02 worth.
