Album of the Week 2-7-26
Afternoon folks!
It's a stylistic smorgasbord of blues this week starting out with an album from Syl Johnson, a Chicago blues and soul artist backed by the Hi (records) rhythm section as he was at the height of his commercial output, reprising some of his hits along with some other cool material. After that we move to New Orleans for a compilation album of two great singer/piano players, labelmates Tommy Ridgely and Bobby Mitchell. Following that is another compilation album of artists from the Trumpet label in the early 50's, including harmonica player Jerry McCain and then it's on to a more modern band and a live album from Little Charlie and the Nightcats a fun, talented band worth a serious listen. We finish off with an album from The Texas Tornados who are difficult to fit into a specific stylistic category, but maybe you could call it Texas music.
Enjoy the tunes and have a great weekend!

Thanks for the music joe
I didn’t know Syl Johnson. So far, I like his James Brown and Temptations style. I’m also enjoying the dance rhythms of Ridgley and Mitchell, and the accordion music of the Texas Tornados.
Have a wonderful weekend.
morning janis...
you might know syl johnson for one record that he made, "take me to the river." al green wrote it, but syl johnson was the first to record it and have a hit with it. they were both on the same label (hi) at the time.
glad you're digging the tunes, have a great weekend!
