Friday Night Photos Zoomania Edition

Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.

In the film era of photography, camera settings were limited to shutter speed, aperture, and film speed. Not much to go wrong there. Today's digital cameras are small computers, and the settings you can program into how the camera functions are in the hundreds. And like all computers/programs, you get bugs and glitch's. One of those glitch's popped up when I went to the zoo Wed. morning. When I turned the camera on and looked through the viewfinder, there was no color. Everything was B&W. That was something I didn't expect since the last time I used the camera a few days earlier, everything in the view finder was in color. One of the hundreds of programing options available is to save your preferred camera settings on a memory card (which I've done) so when a glitch happens you can throw that memory card into the camera (which I did) and reload your preferred settings. Color restored. Crisis averted. It was a beautiful day weather wise. Sunny and mid 70s. A big plus was there were very few people visiting the zoo that day. The big minus was the animals were being very camera shy. Now if only there was a setting on the camera to make the animals less camera shy.

glad you were able to sort out the settings in your
'little computer' camera. The shots are fine as always.

Never heard of a Klipspringer. Big ears and small horns.
Critters are made in so many varieties.

Got no pictures to share as usual.

Could copy and pasta something, but not the same as
the real thing. Getting the bare tree visage going now.
Expecting a few inches of snow Sunday. May get some shots
for next week? First snow of the season is magical in the
visual imagery aspect. Cheers!

"Could copy and pasta something". Foodporn is always enjoyable. I'm sure you have lots of that.

I'm currently preparing stir-fried string beans with lots of scallion and garlic, chili and tamari. I'll take a photo and pasta it tonight or next week.

Maybe there’s a simpler fix to entice the animals out. Do you think that recordings of animal sounds might work, or is that against the rules? Thank you for sharing your vision and knowledge of digital operations. I still only use a fairly simple old digital camera, yet it still is confusing and frustrating. I would like to have a digital camera that operates as film cameras did. Do you know of any that are close approximations?

This is as close as we get to a traditional Christmas environment in these parts ...

Bright red blossomy balls adorning the Pohutakawa trees, and a snow-like dusting of blossoms on the Manuka and Kanuka trees.

More snow-white blossoms at the tops of the Manuka tree in the setting sun.

My Christmas tree, a stalk of Flax flowers, and a bird woven from flax.

I wish you and all a pleasurable weekend.

Food porn, yeah got lots of that. Some is an art form
now that you mention it. Like your interpretation of a
holiday tree. No falling needles to sweep up. The fluffy
red, white and green trees are loverly.
Cheers!

Late spring in NZ is looking beautiful. Love your Christmas tree.
I don't have a problem with using animal recordings as a lure for purposes of photography, or as a way to get a source of food to eat. If it's used to bring in an animal to kill as nothing more than a trophy to mount on a wall, than I have a problem.

I hadn't considered its use to kill for trophy. That's definitely against the rules.

jb's stuff, too, especially her holiday tree. Unique just like everything else she posts. Smile Speaking of the Allman Brothers Band, Duane Allman was brilliant. His peers knew it, too. He also loved his younger brother, Gregg, dearly. Gregg tried to wiggle out of his brother's music world in terms of making a living. He took premed courses and planned on going into dentistry. Big Brother put a stop to that one. We music nuts are the better for it. ABB was the best Southern Boogie Band. This song is my favorite.

Iconic like the whole album including its cover. I lived in the same ECFL area the Allmans did, and had numerous chances to see Duane and company. Couldn't do it, but I jumped on getting that LP. Great memories!! Hope everyone in the frigid areas stays safe, warm, and dry. Rec'd!!

My goodness, the fine textures of furs; roughness of rocks animals are sitting on or near the light (am?) spotlighting a leg here or a meerkat there is simply spectacular.

There are animals I have never heard of in this edition. So nice to see diversity.

Your images pop off of the screen and have a three dimensional sense which I love in photography.

And the textures of Janis' contributions make one want to dive in. Marvelous.

Has anyone gotten the news about western Washington flooding? I have had prompts on YT and have checked out local TV broadcasts on said YT. It seems it is a rough time for many lowland areas. We used to exercise our doggie, Harry, around Snohomish and Snoqualmie River areas. They are totally inundated at this time.

We were impressed with Snoqualmie Falls in Summer, but wow the river falling off the basalt bluff is unbelievable.

ETA

And to correct Snoqualmie.

The Geminid Meteor showers are good tonight around the globe. We have ground fog as the daytime was clear and 55°f at 15h (3pm) but will be below freezing overnight. We saw a few brief streaks last night and were hopeful as the skies were star filled after sunset tonight. But no dice as the fog has moved in.

I have been hanging wash outside this week but have to leave things on for two days. We only get warmth for a few hours and once the sun is below the treeline we get dew at over 90% humidity. Clothes redampen and have to be brought inside to finish drying. Worth it though.

Thanks so much for your splendid photos and great subjects.

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit. Allegedly Greek, but more possibly fairly modern quote.
