Friday Night Photos Vegas Vacation Edition

Happy Friday everyone. Welcome to Friday Night Photos your once a week escape from the day to day insanity of the world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music or whatever else you find of interest that helps tune out the madness.

First off, thank you, Janis for hosting last Friday while I was out of town and safe travels on your visit with family.
I'm not a big fan of Las Vegas, but I have a niece who lives there and she got married last Saturday so I bit the bullet and made the trek there for the wedding. Previous to last weekend, I'd been to Vegas three times and had bad luck there all three times, and I don't even gamble. Fourth time was a charm. I finally had a good time there on this trip.

After dinner Thursday evening, my sister, brother, SIL and I took a walk along the strip and also checked out the fall display inside the Bellagio hotel.

While I did have a good time there this time, my past experiences from Vegas were nothing to write about, hence my dislike for the place. I do agree with you, there is a lot of glitz and glamor around the hotels and casino's(plus a lot of noise and too many people), but once you get away from them my impression was most everywhere else looked run down and worn out.

was showing its failures around
the fringes then
imagine it is more pronounced now

watched the same thing happen in
Atlantic City more recently
beyond the casinos, there is poverty

somehow the high rollers do not
seem to care about the plight of
normal folks

ah well, the details you captured are
most amazingly artful

You have probably seen what is only a 45 minute drive outside of Vegas, to beautiful natural colours and forms - Valley of Fire State Park.

I bet that hasn’t changed much since you were there ; ).

I heard Vegas had gotten so expensive that tourism was way, way down. Hmmm...
I enjoyed a world renowned steak house a The Versailles Hotel, saw the dancing fountains, spent the rest of the time exploring Hoover Dam and Red Rock park. I had fun, didn't gamble more than an hour, didn't lose much, but the fridges in the hotel rooms were rigged, like everything else. It had beer in the room. If you even moved a bottle over to put in something else, like a soft drink, you got charged. This was 25 years ago.
The dancing fountains were fun, but what I saw in Dubai where gays might be beheaded was way, way more fun, just for the irony!

If tourism is down in Vegas you could have fooled me. There was a shit ton of people everywhere on the strip. And yes, it is expensive. Thankfully my lodging and most of my meals were covered and my total out of pocket expenses for 3-1/2 days was only $130.

Glad you got a break!

Las Vegas looks like an imitation of a variety of cultures, filtered through an American lens. I think you’ve enhanced it with the uniqueness and clarity of your vision. Even the Elvis’ rendition of Las Vegas seems like the perfect illustration of pretension. I hope you had fun, and didn’t lose anything.

there this trip, and there is a lot to photograph and a lot of cultural variety, in reality Las Vegas is really nothing more than a very expensive facade where people go to escape every day life for a short time.
