News and Opinion
It’s Just Wall-To-Wall News Stories About The US And Its Allies Abusing The World
It’s just news story after news story about the US and its allies terrorizing the world today.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been filming themselves committing horrific massacres in Sudan over the last couple of days, reportedly murdering some two thousand civilians. You can see the bloodstains on the ground in satellite images. As we discussed the other day, the RSF and its atrocities are backed by the UAE, a close partner of the United States.
Meanwhile Israel has committed another wave of massacres of its own throughout the Gaza Strip, reportedly killing 104 people in a single day, including 46 children. This is as many Palestinians as would typically be killed on any given day in Gaza prior to the so-called “ceasefire”.
CBS News’ 60 Minutes has released a cartoonishly blatant war propaganda piece on “Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela’s dictator” about how poor and unhappy the people of Venezuela are under their current government. The piece featured an interview with Republican Senator Rick Scott, who said that “If I was Maduro I’d head to Russia or China right now; his days are numbered.”
The US can make threats, impose sanctions and amass war machinery, but you don’t truly know they’re serious about attacking a country until they start churning out Pentagon propaganda in the mainstream press.
This is what's known as "we're preparing you the viewer for when we start rescuing them with bombs and death" coverage https://t.co/PZ7Duk1buS
— Bryce Greene (@TheGreeneBJ) October 28, 2025
In the same interview, Scott also said that if Maduro is successfully ousted, “it’ll be the end of Cuba.”
“America is gonna take care of the southern hemisphere and make sure there’s freedom and democracy,” he added.
The senator’s statements suggest that the US is preparing a push in Latin America similar to what it has been executing with Israel in the middle east, eliminating any powers which refuse to bend the knee. South of the US border the top two disobedient governments are the socialist states of Venezuela and Cuba. In the middle east the US and Israel have spent the last two years bombing Iran and Yemen, securing a regime change in Syria, and doing everything they can to eliminate Hamas and Hezbollah in order to rule the region uncontested.
And of course we’ve still got the horrifying US proxy war in Ukraine, where men continue to be dragged off against their will to fight in a nightmarish conflict that most Ukrainians now oppose, but which Zelensky is saying he intends to keep fighting for years against the will of the public. This whole miserable ordeal could have been avoided with a little diplomacy and a few low-cost concessions, but the western power alliance avoided off-ramp after off-ramp in order to ensure that Russia would get sucked into another costly military quagmire.
All over the world the US and its allies are murdering and abusing people in order to dominate the planet and ensure the survival of the capitalist system with which its power is intertwined. It is a giant murder machine feeding on human blood and the life force of our biosphere while providing nothing but obstacles to a healthy world.
The US-centralized empire is a disease that affects our entire species. We had better find a cure, and fast.

When is a violation of a ceasefire a violation of a ceasefire?
Israel strikes Gaza again after overnight bombardment that killed at least 104
Israel carried out another strike in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing at least two people, after bombarding the territory overnight and killing at least 104 Palestinians, including children, in the gravest challenge yet to the increasingly fragile US-brokered ceasefire. The Israeli military said it had struck military infrastructure where weapons were being stored for an imminent attack in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza. Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City said it had received two bodies from the strike.
After the Tuesday night bombardment, Israel said that it was now adhering to the ceasefire again and statements from US officials seemed to indicate they did not consider the ceasefire to have been broken. But Wednesday’s strike cast doubt on Israel’s willingness to comply with the truce, which obligates both parties to stop their attacks.
The strikes, some of the bloodiest attacks in the two-year war, killed at least 46 children and 20 women, and injured 200 people, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency. They took place hours after Donald Trump said nothing would jeopardise the ceasefire agreement. The Israeli military released an infographic showing 25 “terrorists” it had killed in Gaza over the past 24 hours, but did not explain the identity of the other 79 people it had killed. ...
Hamas said the strikes “revealed Israel’s intention to undermine the ceasefire and impose new realities by force”. It said it would continue to adhere to the agreement in a statement issued on Wednesday.

Israel Declares Gaza Ceasefire Back on After It Kills Over 100 Palestinians, Including 46 Children
The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that it was re-implementing the ceasefire in Gaza after unleashing heavy airstrikes across the Strip that, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, killed at least 104 Palestinians, including 46 children, and 20 women, though it bombed the Strip again later in the day.
The escalation came after Israel claimed that its troops in Rafah came under attack, which killed one Israeli soldier. Israel accused Hamas of being behind the attack, but according to Israeli media, the IDF doesn’t know if the attack was approved by Hamas leadership or if it was carried out independently by a cell of Palestinian fighters isolated in the Israeli-occupied area. Israel’s Walla news reported that the attack started when Israeli troops were using heavy equipment in the area and a tunnel the militants were hiding in began to collapse.
For its part, Hamas denied involvement and said that it had “no relation to the shooting incident in Rafah and reaffirms its commitment to the cease-fire agreement.” Israel claimed that the bombardment that killed mostly women and children targeted 30 “terror commanders.”
Israel’s military said Wednesday that the ceasefire was back on in Gaza after it killed 104 people, including 46 children, according to local health officials.

Press Israel to release Marwan Barghouti, former world leaders urge Trump
A group of senior former politicians and diplomats have said Donald Trump should press Israel to release the Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti from Israeli prison, as an important step towards reviving a lasting two-state solution, after a board meeting in London on Tuesday.
The Elders group, set up by Nelson Mandela in 2007, is chaired by Juan Manuel Santos, the former Colombian president and Nobel peace laureate. Its members include the former Irish president Mary Robinson, the former New Zealand prime minister Helen Clark, and Graça Machel, the former Mozambique minister and freedom fighter.
The group also condemned the latest Israeli attacks on Gaza City as “a flagrant violation of the ceasefire deal”. In a statement, they proposed much more pressure be applied on Israel to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza, warning the humanitarian situation remained catastrophic.
The call for Barghouti’s release, at one point tentatively supported by Trump, is widely supported by European countries as they seek a way to revive divided Palestinian politics and ensure the current vacuum is not filled by Hamas. All sides have agreed that Hamas cannot play a role in the future of governance, including the Hamas leadership. But the release of Barghouti, a long-term advocate for a two-state solution by peaceful means, is seen as a way to stop a reversal in the Hamas approach to its future political role.
Barghouti is consistently the most popular Palestinian leader in opinion polls.
Israel demanded Google and Amazon use secret ‘wink’ to sidestep legal orders
When Google and Amazon negotiated a major $1.2bn cloud-computing deal in 2021, their customer – the Israeli government – had an unusual demand: agree to use a secret code as part of an arrangement that would become known as the “winking mechanism”. The demand, which would require Google and Amazon to effectively sidestep legal obligations in countries around the world, was born out of Israel’s concerns that data it moves into the global corporations’ cloud platforms could end up in the hands of foreign law enforcement authorities.
Like other big tech companies, Google and Amazon’s cloud businesses routinely comply with requests from police, prosecutors and security services to hand over customer data to assist investigations. This process is often cloaked in secrecy. The companies are frequently gagged from alerting the affected customer their information has been turned over. This is either because the law enforcement agency has the power to demand this or a court has ordered them to stay silent.
For Israel, losing control of its data to authorities overseas was a significant concern. So to deal with the threat, officials created a secret warning system: the companies must send signals hidden in payments to the Israeli government, tipping it off when it has disclosed Israeli data to foreign courts or investigators. To clinch the lucrative contract, Google and Amazon agreed to the so-called winking mechanism, according to leaked documents seen by the Guardian, as part of a joint investigation with Israeli-Palestinian publication +972 Magazine and Hebrew-language outlet Local Call. ...
The strict controls include measures that prohibit the US companies from restricting how an array of Israeli government agencies, security services and military units use their cloud services. According to the deal’s terms, the companies cannot suspend or withdraw Israel’s access to its technology, even if it’s found to have violated their terms of service. Israeli officials inserted the controls to counter a series of anticipated threats. They feared Google or Amazon might bow to employee or shareholder pressure and withdraw Israel’s access to its products and services if linked to human rights abuses in the occupied Palestinian territories.
COL. Lawrence Wilkerson : Netanyahu Still Killing
The Powerful Who Stand Behind Israel
Over the past two years, Israel has dropped at least 200,000 tons of explosives on Gaza, a tonnage equivalent to 13 atom bombs of the scale dropped on Hiroshima by the United States on Aug. 6, 1945. This is unimaginable, particularly given the fact that Palestinians have no air defense systems, no air force and no ability to defend themselves from high-altitude and drone bombing or to strike back in any comparable way. Genocides are, by their nature, asymmetrical. But to describe these past two years as asymmetrical is obscene: this was one-directional violence, the Goliath-like Israelis using their immense advantages against the David-like Palestinian resistance.
The opaqueness of official arms transfers means we have no precise idea how much of this tonnage came to Israel from its major suppliers during the war: the United States, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom. However, we have enough evidence to know that most of the bombs came from the United States, with smaller supplies from the other countries.
An Oct. 20 report from Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, entitled Gaza Genocide: A Collective Crime makes it indisputably clear that the countries supplying Israel with military equipment, or assisting it in any way — including through diplomatic support — are utterly complicit in the genocide.
In other words, the obligation to abide by the U.N. Convention on Genocide is not discretionary; the duty to do what they can to stop the genocide is mandatory. The participation makes them wholly culpable. The report notes that the Israeli genocide of the Palestinians in Gaza makes this “an internationally enabled crime.” ...
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) filed a warrant for the arrest of Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant. Based on this recent U.N. report, the ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, should be obliged to file warrants against Rishi Sunak, Starmer, Olaf Scholz, Friedrich Merz, Joe Biden, and Donald Trump – at a minimum. Anything less makes a mockery of the rules-based international system, namely the United Nations Charter.

Pro-Palestinian students threaten to sue US university amid antisemitism definition controversy
Pro-Palestinian students are threatening to sue George Mason University in Virginia after the school cited a contentious definition of antisemitism it recently adopted to demand the removal of a social media post in which they described Israel as a “genocidal Zionist state” and the US as “the belly of the beast”. In a letter sent to the public university’s administrators on Wednesday, and shared exclusively with the Guardian, the university’s Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) chapter argued that the video amounted to “political expression on a matter of public concern, and thus the very speech the first amendment is meant to protect”.
“As a public university, the law is crystal clear that GMU may not censor its students or student organizations on the basis of viewpoint,” the letter added, demanding the university allow SJP to repost the video by Friday. “GMU cannot utilize the veneer of anti-discrimination in order to censor student speech that may be disfavored by the administration.”
A spokesperson for GMU told the Guardian in a statement that the video had raised “fears and alarm among members of the university community” and confirmed it was taken down “at the university’s insistence”.
The case is the latest dispute over the so-called IHRA definition of antisemitism – after the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance that drafted it – which critics have long accused of conflating criticism of Israel with antisemitism as a tool to suppress pro-Palestinian speech. Dozens of institutions across the world have adopted the definition, as have several US state legislatures, including Virginia.
Critics of the definition maintain that it is antithetical to academic inquiry and that its implementation in public institutions is probably unconstitutional. If the GMU students do end up suing the university, it will be the first time the definition’s legality will be directly tested in federal court.

Pentagon orders states’ national guards to form ‘quick reaction forces’ for ‘crowd control’
A top US military official has ordered the national guards of all 50 US states, the District of Columbia and US territories to form “quick reaction forces” trained in “riot control”, including use of batons, body shields, Tasers and pepper spray, according to an internal Pentagon directive reviewed by the Guardian.
The memo, signed on 8 October by Maj Gen Ronald Burkett, the director of operations for the Pentagon’s national guard bureau, sets thresholds for the size of the quick reaction force to be trained in each state, with most states required to train 500 national guard members, for a total of 23,500 troops nationwide.
As authority, Burkett cited Donald Trump’s August executive order that deployed the guard to fight crime in Washington DC. The same order required the secretary of defense to create “a standing National Guard quick reaction force … available for rapid nationwide deployment” in “quelling civil disturbances”.
Janessa Goldbeck, a former US Marine Corps captain and chief executive of the Vet Voice Foundation, a non-profit advocacy group, said the order represented “an attempt by the president to normalize a national, militarized police force”. She predicted that force would be used to send troops to states led by Democratic governors without their permission and could be used to suppress turnout and disrupt the fair operation of elections. In a worst-case scenario, she said, “the president could declare a state of emergency and say that elections are rigged and use allegations of voter fraud to seize the ballots of secure voting centers”.
Fed cuts interest rates for second time this year amid economic uncertainty
The US Federal Reserve cut interest rates on Wednesday, the second rate cut this year amid economic turbulence from the federal government shutdown and Donald Trump’s tariffs.
The decision to cut the Fed’s benchmark interest rate by a quarter point to a range of 3.75% to 4% comes at an extraordinary moment for the central bank. The Fed has been under immense pressure from Donald Trump to cut rates despite persistent inflation and no longer has access to key data thanks to the shutdown.
The Fed chair, Jerome Powell, said on Wednesday that “there is no risk-free path” for the Fed to take with the labor market cooling and prices going up. ...
The Fed’s goal is to use interest rates to both keep unemployment low and minimize price increases. Powell noted that the majority of Fed officials are now more concerned about the labor market than rising inflation, but opinions on the path forward differ widely.
“We have one tool. We can’t do both of those at once. People have different forecasts … and they have different levels of risk aversion,” Powell said.
US could lose between $7bn and $14bn during shutdown, budget office says
The US is set to lose between $7bn and $14bn as a result of the ongoing federal government shutdown, according to the congressional budget office.
On Wednesday, the nonpartisan federal agency released its estimates in a new report to the House budget committee as the government shutdown reaches four weeks.
According to the report, the shutdown will also reduce the US’s GDP by one to two percentage points in the fourth quarter of 2025.
In his report, Phillip Swagel, the CBO director, said: “In CBO’s assessment, the shutdown will delay federal spending and have a negative effect on the economy that will mostly, but not entirely, reverse once the shutdown ends.”
“The effects of the shutdown on the economy are uncertain. Those effects depend on decisions made by the administration throughout the shutdown. In addition, how federal employees and contractors respond to the delay in compensation is uncertain,” Swagel added.

Trump’s ‘absurd’ DoJ compensation bid would be rejected if he were anyone else
Donald Trump’s effort to get his justice department to pay him hundreds of millions of dollars is based on specious legal claims that would likely be rejected if he were any other American, according to a legal expert and a former Department of Justice official who handled damages claims against the government. Trump has asked the justice department to pay him $230m in damages, the New York Times reported last week. The amount is the total of two separate claims in which Trump argues he is entitled to compensation because of investigations into the links between Russia and his 2016 campaign as well as the 2022 search for classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and subsequent criminal prosecution.
In the Mar-a-Lago complaint, Trump argues he was subject to invasion of privacy, malicious prosecution and abuse of process related to the case. The effort has set off alarm bells and seen as a staggering act of corruption because the two justice department officials with power to sign off on the claims are Trump appointees and allies. House Democrats sent a letter to the justice department this week calling the effort “blatantly illegal and unconstitutional”.
Trump is seeking compensation under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA), a law that allows people to seek damages from the federal government. The law requires claimants to first file an administrative claim for damages; the government then has six months to either settle the claim or deny it. After six months, or if the claim is denied, the claimant can file a lawsuit. The government has not responded to either of Trump’s claims, but Trump has not filed a lawsuit. It is extremely difficult for a claimant to successfully recover damages under the law.
The New York Times published the form Trump used to make the claim about the Mar-a-Lago raid – the only claim that has become public so far. Trump requested the government pay him $100m in compensation. Additionally, a memo attached to the claim requested $100m in punitive damages and says the president suffered $15m in actual harm due to legal costs connected to the case. It is not clear why the claim cover sheet seeks $100m in damages while the memo outlines $115m in requested damages.
Trump’s legal costs in the case were covered by his Super Pac, Save America. Trump retained six lawyers for himself in the classified documents case, including Todd Blanche, who is now the deputy attorney general. Trump told reporters last week he would donate any money from a possible settlement to charity. The president has a history of making charitable promises that never materialize.

Democratic contender for Congress indicted over Chicago ICE protests
Kat Abughazaleh, a progressive candidate for Congress, has been indicted on federal charges related to her participation in protests outside an ICE processing facility near Chicago in September. The indictment, filed last week, alleges that the 26-year old Palestinian American candidate and five other individuals “physically hindered and impeded” a federal agent who was “forced to drive at an extremely slow rate of speed to avoid injuring any of the conspirators”.
Abughazaleh, who is running for Illinois’s ninth congressional district to replace the outgoing Democrat Jan Schakowsky, was charged with conspiracy to forcibly impede or injure a federal agent, and assaulting or impeding the agent while they were performing official duties. According to the indictment, the group “conspired with one another and others, known and unknown, to prevent by force, intimidation, and threat, Agent A, a United States law enforcement officer, from discharging the duties of his office”.
It alleged that Abughazaleh, along with the other individuals, “banged aggressively” on the agent’s vehicle, “crowded together in the front and side” of the vehicle and “pushed against the vehicle to hinder and impede its movement”. According to the indictment, the group etched the word “pig” on to the vehicle and broke a side mirror and a rear windshield wiper. It also alleged that Abughazaleh specifically “joined the crowd at the front of the government vehicle, and with her hands on the hood braced her body and hands against the vehicle while remaining directly in the path of the vehicle, hindering and impeding” the agent.
Following the indictment, Abughazaleh, who is known for her large social media platform on which she frequently criticizes Donald Trump’s immigration crackdowns, called the indictment “political prosecution”. “This is a … gross attempt at silencing dissent, a right protected under the first amendment. This case is yet another attempt by the Trump administration to criminalize protest and punish those who dare to speak up. That’s why I’m going to fight these unjust charges,” she said.

All operational US liquefied natural gas terminals have violated pollution limits
Every fully operational liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the US has violated federal pollution limits in recent years, a new report has found. The analysis of public records comes as the Trump administration is aiming to fast-track the approval of new export terminals in an attempt to sell more domestic LNG to Europe and Asia. Joe Biden had previously placed a pause on LNG exports, which Donald Trump lifted on the first day of his return to office.
“The LNG industry portrays itself as environmentally friendly, but companies do not consistently comply with air and water pollution control laws that LNG terminals must follow,” says the report from the Environmental Integrity Project, a non-profit research organization. ...
The United States has been the world’s largest LNG exporter since 2023. The US president has aimed to boost exports even further, including by directing agencies to speed the approval of new terminals and by threatening foreign countries with steep tariffs if they refuse to purchase LNG from the US. Late last year, seven US LNG export terminals were fully operational: three in Louisiana, two in Texas, and one each in Maryland and Georgia.
Between October 2022 and July 2025, all seven of those terminals have been in noncompliance with the Clean Air Act for at least one quarter, according to the analysis of data from the EPA and state governments. “Given the LNG industry’s poor compliance record, state and federal agencies should be slowing down and more carefully scrutinizing new permit applications instead of speeding up permit reviews,” said Jen Duggan, executive director of the Environmental Integrity Project.
Five of the seven LNG export terminals were also in noncompliance with the Clean Water Act during that same period, with four of the terminals breaching the regulation for at least two quarters between April 2022 and July 2025.
Monster Hurricane Melissa Is Ominous Reminder of Trump’s Perilous Climate Policy, Aid Cuts
As Jamaica was flogged Tuesday by Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 monster, climate defenders highlighted how US President Donald Trump’s policies—including reckless fossil fuel expansion, eviscerating federal agencies, and slashing international aid—will deepen the devastating impacts of this and future natural disasters.
Melissa—the strongest storm to slam Jamaica since 1851—made landfall near New Hope at approximately 1:00 pm local time, with sustained winds of 185 miles per hour, with significantly stronger gusts. As of 5:00 pm local time, the storm had weakened to a Category 4 as it crossed the Caribbean island’s rugged mountain terrain, but still packed maximum sustained winds of 145 mph. Melissa is expected to strike Cuba next, with significant impacts also forecast for the Bahamas and Haiti.
Not only is Melissa the strongest storm to hit Jamaica—parts of which are still rebuilding following last year’s devastating Hurricane Beryl—in nearly 175 years, it is also one of the fastest-intensifying storms in history.
As scientists have long predicted, planetary heating caused by human activity, primarily the burning of fossil fuels, is driving the intensification of natural disasters including hurricanes.
According to a new study published Monday by ClimaMeter, “Compared to previous decades, meteorological conditions for cyclones like Hurricane Melissa are now more intense and potentially destructive, bringing heavier rainfall and stronger winds.”
“The devastating impacts of Melissa show that fossil fuels do far more than warm the world—they make hurricanes wetter, stronger, and more violent,” study co-author Davide Faranda said in a statement. “The science is clear: If emissions aren’t rapidly cut, countries like Jamaica will face storms more destructive than anything ever seen before.”
Hurricane Melissa - the strongest storm to strike Jamaica in 174 years, with winds of 175 miles per hour and the power to dump 40 inches of rain on a nation of three million souls - is not a natural disaster.
It is a crime scene.
It is climate disaster pic.twitter.com/kcCZjOjIHj
— Claudia Webbe (@ClaudiaWebbe) October 28, 2025
However, Trump—who ran for reelection on a “drill, baby, drill” energy platform—and his fossil-friendly administration have no intention of cutting emissions, or pursuing any sort of pro-climate policies.
The Trump administration has also suppressed climate science, gutted the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its forecasting infrastructure, and worked to undermine Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) operations.
Much of this has occurred under the direction of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Russell Vought, who co-authored the policy portion of Project 2025, a blueprint for overhauling the federal government that includes dramatic cuts to critical public programs, abolishing or gutting essential government agencies, and a litany of other far-right wish list items.
Some of those items have already been checked off the list, including shutting down the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which previously administered foreign aid. International assistance, which has been dramatically slashed, is now under the auspices of the US State Department.
“Hurricane Melissa is poised to unleash unspeakable harm on Jamaica and other parts of the Caribbean, a tragedy which will be deepened by Donald Trump and Russell Vought’s lawlessly unilateral cessation of USAID funding,” lamented Jeff Hauser, the executive director of the Revolving Door Project, in a statement Tuesday.
“Flooding risks are projected to be elevated in the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, both US territories,” Hauser continued. “By further expanding planet-heating fossil fuel pollution, the Trump administration and its Republican allies in Congress are condemning people around the world to more frequent and severe extreme weather, including rapidly intensifying monster hurricanes.”
