Friday Night Photography

Hi everyone, I’m filling in today for Social, who's out of town. I don’t have much to contribute photographically at the moment, as I am also in the process of preparing to leave home and travel overseas in 10 days to visit my daughter and two little granddaughters.

A photo taken out of the window yesterday in the rain, of the flowering Cabbage Tree, which sends intoxicating wafts of fragrance through the window at night. In the background on the left is the Nikau Palm standing proudly, and on the right are Manuka Trees about to flower …

I look forward to any contributions, photographically, and anything else of interest.

Cheers, all

Totally off topic, but I had to share my years long experimenting with how to keep my favourite herb fresh, longest.

the better part of a pound of parsley from our little container garden this year, because it was a really good year and we love the stuff. We use those weird ice cube trays with the flexible silicone bottoms (that make it easy to pop the cubes out). We do all the stemming and chopping all at once, down to the size and texture we most commonly use in our cooking.

We pack the chopped parsley into the cubes by eye, some bigger, some smaller, and then add just enough water to cover- and freeze them. We’ll start the winter with 50 or 60 cubes, and we’ll run out just as the new crop comes in. It is nice to be cooking up a soup or whatnot, and just throwing in a cube late in the process for a splash of summer color and that wonderful greenness on the palate…

That’s one way to do it, anyway, here where the snow flies for far too much of the year. We do that with Hatch chiles, as well, but we do somewhat bigger cubes. (;-) The astronaut-fingertip cube tray trick works great for a lot of fresh herbs that come in all at once- we’ve often done oregano/thyme/garlic chives together as a mix, for example, and cilantro survives the freezing well as well…

Good to see you, as always.

I do the ice cube tray thing exactly as you do with a variety of flavours. Of all the little tasty blocks in my freezer, lime juice is prime. Next is cilantro and tarragon, my favourite flavourings. Ice cube trays are a brilliant invention. A few times I put a few leaves of an herb with a few small flowers for taste and beauty.

Enjoy and eat well

The scenery around your place is magnificent! The video you posted appears to be blocked to the US.

I don't have any comparable photos myself. This is tourist photo Ms. So took in Venice last week with her phone.

I'm very happy to see you here, and the wonderful photo of Ms. So's adventure in Venice. It captures the beauty of Venice's unique apartments, dome, and bridge along its waterway. And then there's this barbershop looking post directly in your face! I hope it didn't interfere with the gondola she was enjoying a ride on ; ).

Thank you

The video was of Simon and Garfunkel singing 'Kodachrome' in Central Park.

Your photo of the Borage flower and bees is absolutely beautiful, thank you.

I used to grow borage for its beauty and subtle flavour. I don't now, but my neighbour has some she likes to share.

feral. It sets up a spot in the garden every year and just grows. I really like it too, flavor, smell and looks. And yes, it's been a long time no see! I'm trying to be 'normal' again after all the family stuff, whatever normal means Smile

I hope you have a great trip traveling overseas. It's been so long since I've done that, I'm kinda envious Smile

I’d bet you have been 'normal plus' through your family experiences, and a great support. I’m glad you’re finding more balance again.

See you around ; ).
