Saturday Open Thread - 7/19/25 : Odds and Ends

Good morning, good people! I hope you have weekend plans for fun and games and share it with us so we can get some ideas about travel and adventures.
Uh, not this one:
Which leads me to my trial of the week:
I had a case involving a divorced couple struggling over Mom having rights to have visitation with their little girl whom I won complete custody and possession for Dad 2 years ago. Mom went berserk when her brother committed murder (of his wife)/suicide, and became a sufferer of the same thing he had: bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
So, even if brother's meds didn't work, hers will, so the Judge believes. She hasn't beaten her parents in a year, hasn't been arrested, stopped posting videos of herself engaged is various sexual performances in front of her daughter, and she testified she has been accepted to a law school in Ca. (She doesn't have the required BA.) Miracles happen! The Miracle Med is Abilify Maintena, read about it and specifically the side effects, and ask yourself, "Would a sane person take this crap?
Send the child your wishes and prayers for her first visit tomorrow.
For fun:
This could have been me and Dad. He sang, played the guitar and slide, I sang in public from age two, and I had bright red hair:
I will leave it there. As I write, three does have come to graze. I am getting distracted.
Ok, friends, this open thread is an exchange of info and ideas opportunity. No subject, excepting child porn videos, of course, is off limits! I would find you...just sayin'! Hey, friends. It happens. Presidents and royals can back me up!
And never forget this little girl:
This is an open thread, not only open to ideas and information, but the whole point of giving you all the forum.
Go for it, my friends!

Good morning!
As I sip coffee, I will take a look at various alt media sites to see what "progress" we are making in the undeclared WWIII. With war, it's always something!
I look forward to hearing from all my friends.

Our controlled opposition has spoken!
Pelosi calls Epstein controversy “a distraction”
subtitle: As MAGA tears itself apart, Pelosi said lawmakers have more important issues to worry about
Summary: everyone's okay with criminality at the top, so move along, nothing to see. Right? Nancy, for her part -- her Congress is doing 13% in the polls because, among other things, she keeps saying stuff like this.
As regards the other party, well...
Trump, Republicans maneuver to defuse Epstein crisis
Key passage:
Meanwhile, our President, cool and calm as always...
You heard the man.
"the old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born; now is the time of monsters" -- Antonio Gramsci
Good morning, cass!
For decades, Dems gripe that Repubs always stick together while Dems are quick to fracture. The goal of both parties is to dominate the other, notwithstanding Clinton's mantra of reaching across the aisle.
We have watched MAGA break away from traditional Repubs, and instead of urging it on, once and for all for the big win, what do Dems do? Encourage them to heal their wounds? Spout off about people's needs being important suddenly?
Controlled opposition writ large, friend.
The easiest job in Congress is to blame the opposition from allowing anything to be done, and to ask for campaign contributions. Actually doing something would require actual work.
Please share anything and everything you read today!

I'll see what I can do.

Greetings from Deception Pass S.P.
Beautiful day here looking out over Cranberry Lake. Will be putting in our kayaks after breakfast.
Took the ferry to Friday Harbor yesterday and shopped, had lunch, toured a couple of museums, and walked the whole downtown.
Got back to Anacordes 'round 5 PM.
Then had dinner in a little farm town called Connor.
Stayed up late around the campfire with the whole family and roasted smores.
There is a ban on woodfires and charcoal grilling, but my son brought a portable gas fire pit which is ok to use.
We felt a little guilty as the only camp with a semblance of a campfire.
9 of us parked our chairs around it and had a good time.
Gonna see a concert tonite at the campground Amphitheater overlooking the ocean. Should be fun.
Best wishes for the little girl, I hope it goes well.
Thanks for the OT.
Neither Russia nor China is our enemy.
Neither Iran nor Venezuela are threatening America.
Cuba is a dead horse, stop beating it.
Good morning, friend!
Well, what can I say, other than you are experiencing America. The small towns. The farms. The diners. The local museums. The scenic beauty that is often forgotten, but is critical to see to understand what America is all about.
Be sure to let us know how the concert turns out.
I wish we could be there with you!
Enjoy your weekend, dear!

Greetings from Deception Pass S.P.
That's my stomping grounds! My parents had a rustic fishing cabin just inside D.P. where we ha 2 gillnet boats under 25 feet and fished for salmon in Rosario for 50 years. I must have passed over and under that bridge more than a thousand times!
Interesting article
on mental health drugs: https://www.ablechild.org/2025/07/18/30000-feet-mental-health-meltdown-a...
I ran across this article the next day after the trial.
I have also read that there is a movement to take ssris off the list of FDA approved drugs.

Good morning otc. Just back from farmers' market with a ton
of veggies and my week to cook starting mañana and not much of my menus figured out, especially for some of the impulse veggie buys. Ah well. Still cool and sunless out here, wtf. 'puter acting up something crazy and all my browsers acting up at the same time. Arrgh!
Of course, the whole damn country is going insane one way of the other, so it fits right in. Need to go cover windshield before the sun catches me napping.
be well and have a good one
That, in its essence, is fascism--ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or by any other controlling private power. -- Franklin D. Roosevelt --
Good afternoon, el!
Glad you got to go shop. Glad it's not hot. Glad you will be inventive on your menus this week. How fun!
We are having an unusual summer. It hasn't crept up over 95 deg. yet. And rain? Man, it is daily. The first day of no rain for the current week will be tomorrow, and that is our typical shopping day.
Dear One is out mowing. With the rain, it is every 7 to 10 days before the grass gets as tall as me.
He does the 12 acres over 3 afternoons. Another afternoon takes care of the office. It will slow down in August, when the sun dries out any rain in very short order. That is the month it is best to just stay inside and not risk heat stroke.
I am going to explore some sites and read up on Putin's reaction to Trumps 50 days tariff and sanctions threat. I am happier with out slow decline than I would be with a speedy one.
Enjoy your weekend, my friend!

Good evening, BBC!
Those were good articles about the 2016 coup. There has been lots of criticism of Tulsi from the right, and I was beginning to doubt her to the point of ignoring her. Well, she has done that one good thing. I never believed the Russiagate bs, and it is a reason why I drifted more and more away from the MSM and the Democratic Party "proper".
The only thing that shocks me is that Obama took charge of it when I always figured it to be Clinton. (Notice I didn't specify Bill or Hillary.)
Too bad we never got to see Seth Rich's info.
I look forward to the upcoming legal tussle about acts of Presidents being prosecuted after leaving office.
I hope your weekend is fun and relaxing, friend. One more day, then back to the nose to the grindstone!
Thanks for dropping by!

FAFO....... Azerbaijan is being taught a lesson!
Since I am not aware of twitter limits I am posting all of it.

FAFO says it all, humphrey.
My guide in Armenia said WWIII would likely start there. Then another guide said the tour company, largest in the world, Gate 1 Travel, was exploring Azerbaijan as the next new tour destination for them. I doubt their plans will come to fruition at this time.

I watched this one last night
South Korea doesn't want THAAD. Never did. It was forced upon them by US pressure, when drug addled Park Geun-hye was on her last legs. The truth is that it is just not effective against the North Korean missile threat. Moon tried to stop any further deployments after he got into office. It's airspace envelope was not relevant to the North Korean threat. North Korean missiles can reach and destroy relevant targets in South Korea in less than 3 minutes. The only viable strategy against North Korea is a pre-emptive attack, which doesn't have a prayer of being successful and would likely invite a nuclear response, as most serious aerospace analysts know. A second thing is that politically THAAD is not viable with South Korean foreign policy, since it would be directed against China, whom the South Koreans have zero interest in fighting. In domestic political terms, there is a not in my neighborhood aspect for providing base launch sites for these pink elephants. They destroy the terrain, bring American military traffic, and are heavy EM emitters which Asian farmers believe is harmful to livestock. It also makes your region a military target.
The latter applies in Japan as well. 7.5 minute flight time from North Korea to Japanese targets. Again preemptive attack is the desirable attack option for Japan, and the US bases. Totally contrary to the Japanese Constitution. Beyond this, the Japanese not too long ago, scrapped the Aegis ashore program due to the not in my neighborhood political blowback. Japan will make due with the naval Aegis systems, and whatever preemptive strike plan they have worked up with the US. But they had to change the name, to "counterstrike" as a fig leaf for their totally blown "pacifist" image.
Imo Taiwan is too close to the mainland for THAAD to have any practical application there as well.
I heard Wilkerson's bit on WWI before on another program, I think it was Glenn Diesen the other night. He said it again virtually word for word. I think his thesis about how and why WWI started is a little off. First of all, Keynes did not outline all that happening before WWI in the way Wilkerson claimed. I read the "pamphlet" well at least the first 25 percent of it, and then scanned the rest, as it became apparent that Wilkerson had overstated his case. I think the problem one gets into looking at the causes of WWI, is that you have to look at the drift toward war as the drift from the so called Concert of Europe from an imperialist competition where all aggression was turned outward on the third world, toward a Darwinian struggle of direct confrontation on the European continent itself. All the major powers were players. Some were advancing their interests, some were falling behind. There were also the grievances from the prior Franco-Prussian war, which France was in dither to avenge.
The imperialist struggle for survival among the western powers can only be viewed in an unfavorable light, regardless of the European power involved. If examined in the Marxist Leninist historiographical model, most western historians are also loathe to consider. The problem- these models, Arendt's on the imperial-totalitarian model (leading to the liquidation of human rights, terror. totalitarianism, and genocide); or the Marxist historiography, blaming the capitalist led European imperial powers for their innate aggression and inhumanity to man are too distasteful for the west to contemplate. So it has to be something like Emmanuel Todd or Niall Ferguson's nihilism and or fall away from "Christian morality." I listen to long winded discussions on this topic from time to time, and they go on without even mentioning Machiavelli whose work The Prince is practically the bible for ruthless western "diplomacy." Anything goes. At least this is what they think. fwiw.
I appreciate you posting this video OTC. It's very thought provoking.
Earlier today, I came across two Chinese sayings on governance from the early Tang dynasty I thought were germane-
兼聽則明偏信則暗 If you listen to many opinions, you become wise, but if you listen to only one opinion, you become stupid. 兼聽則明 겸청즉명 the first four characters are a shorthand reference for the entire expression. This was advice to the Emperor Tang Dae Jong from an advisor, Wei Zheng (魏徵: 580–643).
兎死狗烹 토사구팽 Cooking the hunting dog after it kills the rabbit. This is another common political tactic/ observation that still has relevance.
(edit- added advisor's name)

Wonderful comment,
both your opinion on the value and expediency of weapons, and theories of the cause of WWI. It is interesting, and mind exploding, to trace back wars. What happened after a war that precipitated the next war seems to lead to the conclusion that wars do not resolve the cause, that there will always be a future war. Peace is defined differently by the actors. The US can define peace on a whim, over brunch.
"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." ---- William Casey, CIA Director, 1981
I enjoy listening to Wilkerson
I've made a point of it lately. I think his point of view on current developments is quite good. When Wilkerson says I think we're already in WWIII, that has to be taken seriously. I read the Keynes pamphlet on the terms of the peace imposed by the allies at the end of WWI as lamenting the shortsightedness of a vindictive, punitive peace, which ultimately became an underlying factor in causing WWII. I don't feel Keynes' really addressed the causes of WWI.

I never read that Keynes pamphlet.
I have some first person explanation of why Germany had good reason to fight.
My neighbor growing up was from Germany. Hilde. She and my parents were friends, and she and I shared a love for classical music from the time I was 8 yrs old until she died in her 70s, maybe 15 years ago.
Dad was a combat veteran, and the 2 of them shared many conversations about Germany and the re-war and post-war life there.
The post-WWI treaty conditions were only a slight step up from conditions in St. Petersburg during the siege. The economy was shattered. She lived mostly by eating from garbage cans, as did many Germans. Dogs and cats were food. As were rats. They had no hope. And then comes Hitler. We think of him as only an ideologue, but ordinary Germans thought of him as ushering in an economy, jobs, and food on the table. She had a history as a young adult her children were never told. Her IQ was extremely high. She was selected to mate up with an SS elite trooper to produce children of the supreme race. She married, had no emotional connection with her husband, and their daughter, who came to the US in the 1960 was able to finish high school here, and attend college. The daughter, Ursula, was also brilliant. Unfortunately, she was physically deformed, head to toe. Nobody considered hiring her, so she spent her rather short life working at a deli in Houston. Hilde finished her BA in 1 year, later became a lawyer. Despite the horrors of the US imposed conditions on post-war Germany, she eventually became a US citizen.

Interesting video from Dialogue Works
The first guest is all about military assessment, missile strength, etc...I skipped to the 20 min. mark of the 40 min. vid, to Orlof. Somewhere he makes the claim about how every US President is brought under control once they are in office and shown a vid featuring a JFK assassination video. Courtesy of the Deep State. Lol!
Wish Hicks was still around. And George Carlin.
Years ago, some journalist described Obama being taken to a meeting with the various intelligence officers, and he described Obama leaving the meeting looking visibly shaken and he appeared to be terrified. It is common knowledge Kennedy had announced to his staff that he intended to disband the CIA two weeks before he went for that ride through Dallas.
