Grad night, the last one.

open thread.jpg

The youngest grandchild has graduated from high school. That it, all of them have high school deplomas.
Two granddaughters have gone on to college and have BA degrees.
One other is a sophomore in college and the one who just graduated from high school was taking advanced courses and has already earned a AA degree. That ceremony will be next week.
All the girls are going to get degrees.
None of the boys are going to go to college.
I don't understand why. They are working with steady jobs in the construction industry, but have no interest in higher education.
Oh well, I guess I should be happy they at least graduated high school.
As long as they are happy.
At the farm for a few days, so internet will be a little spotty.
I will try to keep up.
Otherwise, the thread is open.

Tried that route with financial difficulty.
Turned out skill and experience were more beneficial.

Glad to hear your grand babies have all matriculated!
You must be proud.

Thanks for the OT.

@QMS
of the competition. China pumps out grads at a phenomenal rate.
And they are our kids competition.
Our children are our greatest asset.
I didn't graduate from college, even though it was relatively free (Calif) at that time. I chose a different path and wound up taking college classes till I was 30 yo. anyway thru two apprenticeships.
Thanks for the post.

https://www.aol.co.uk/news/britain-sanction-israeli-ministers-made-12255...

Britain has formally sanctioned two far-right Israeli ministers for their “repeated incitements of violence against Palestinian communities”.

The UK will freeze the assets of Israeli security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, and finance minister Bezalel Smotrich, and impose travel bans.

The move will see Britain join Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Norway in imposing sanctions in a personal capacity on the pair.

The Foreign Office stressed this was in response to “their repeated incitements of violence against Palestinian communities”

It added that the UK has made clear in public and private to the Netanyahu government that Israel must cease expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank which undermine a future Palestinian state, clamp down on settler violence, and condemn inflammatory and extremist statements from both ministers.
.
.
.
Responding to the sanctions, Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Saar branded it "outrageous.”

He told reporters that the Israeli government would hold a special meeting early next week to decide how to respond to the "unacceptable decision".

BTW

As I type this a google search shows that no major US news are giving this any mention indicating Israeli control of US media. It may channge but these are the results.

to every American that the MSM is regime media.
There are no journalists or real news in America. It's all a fraud. Propaganda disguised as news.
Thanks for posting that.

The rest of the tweet:

A portion of these documents will be made available to our armed forces and some of them will be shared with allied countries and anti-Zionist groups

The obtained documents pertain to the following areas:

. Israel's nuclear weapons
. Israel's ties with American and European institutions
. Israel's nuclear program
. Israel's military and missile programs
. Names, details, and addresses of Israeli officials and scientists
. Information on scientists linked to Israel's nuclear industry
. Data on researchers of various nationalities collaborating with Israel

Distribution Plan:

- A portion of these documents will be released to the Iranian public.

- A portion will be provided to relevant domestic institutions for research and utilization.

- A portion will be allocated to the country's armed forces.

- A portion may be exchanged with allied nations or shared with anti-Zionist organizations and groups.

Maybe now we will have proof of nukes in Israel. And they are not a signatory to the NPT. A rouge regime.

"class" was defined, the high class in society required a degree to keep the status. It was never the requirement that the degree would be chosen for future employment. Arts and humanities were popular.
Now, college is for employment training. Why pay a fortune to get a degree when a tech school can provide skills.
Congrats on the graduates and I wish for all of them a bright future.
Thanks for the OT, friend.

see so many college degrees too, but those lacking them aren't necessarily lacking. Certain trades are as or more likely than college diplomas to produce a decent amount of employment security and a decent quality of life. Selecting such a career needn't be a negative depending upon everything else.

be well and have a good one

as a union sprinklerfitter installing fire protection systems.
But I cannot get any of the boys interested in an apprenticeship. Of any kind, be it plumber, electrician, ironworker, or even carpenter.
I have friends working as helicopter mechanics, mariners, and law enforcement. Great occupations.
But no, not interested say they.
I hope they find their way, and be happy with it.
Thanks for the post.

I have watched various skilled laborers get rich. They loved doing their job. That inspired them to excel at it. Because they were excellent, they made money.
My best example was the friend who failed in school so often, he dropped out in 10th grade at age 18, started working earth moving equipment for neighbors. They spread the word. I can drive for miles from home in any direction and see a pond, a driveway, a drainage ditch that he made.
He was worth many millions at his death at 70 yrs old, and you could not keep him off his bulldozer.

@on the cusp

If I had it all to do again, but had to do it in this current environment, I would not bother going through all the shit that college entailed, the 10 years of mac and cheese while paying it off, and the towering disappointments to which it has finally led.

I'd have been better off staying in my home town, and working a family trade. The people who are now in technical schools will face their disappointments immediately after graduation, and will not have to spend years in their careers before finding out that, due to matters completely beyond their control, it wasn't at all it was supposed to be.

I truly feel for the new crops of wannabe-professionals whose lives will be reduced to shoveling the garbage into and out of some MBA's idea of what AI should be used for. Leaving college with 6-figure debt and shit prospects is not at all what one would wish.

The coming neofeudalism is not for me.

A 4 year degree that would have kept me locked in the lab. Fortunately I took a photography class, fell in love with it and started hanging around the eye center’s darkroom that a rich Ogden man funded so he didn’t have to go to SLC for treatment for his eyes because of diabetes.

The center got real busy after the macular degeneration study showed that laser treatment helped stop vision loss. The center needed a full time darkroom tech…me.

Then I started learning about the retina, how to do the tests and got a job with a brilliant doctor after only doing tests on 2 people. I admitted up front that I hadn’t been doing it long and said I’d done 10 people.

Good thing I took the photography class because I’m sure I’d have been bored working in the lab. That is if I could pass the chemistry classes.

College is over rated.
