The plot to resurrect Yoon like administration; coup d'etat still ongoing

The leadership of the conservative party in South Korea, with elections pending for president on June 3, decided to try to get rid of Kim Moon-soo, People's Power Party candidate for president with chicanery of dubious lawfulness, to install Han Deok-soo, the former prime minister and acting president from the deposed Yoon Seok-yeol administration. To put it bluntly, South Korea is in chaos, as the rolling coup d'etat begun by Yoon continues. Han went from independent candidate to joining the PPP (conservative party) in the dead of night, which is probably unlawful. How this maneuver was accomplished in just hours is suspicious. Apparently another vote of party members, and a public poll will be taken, or has been taken, on May 10, to decide who the candidate will be after Kim Moon-soo had already been selected in the party primaries for their presidential candidate.

Kim Moon-soo tried to block these ad hoc procedures by the party leadership by applying for injunctions to stop the party rules violations. The court blew him off. I don't know the polling results yet but the PPP is undergoing a coup by the Yoon faction that wants Han Deok-soo as their candidate who will perform as the Yoon faction's puppet. Yoon obviously has the Supreme Court under his control, he and the clique of his dictatorship of prosecutors, will not give up this fight.

Lee Jae-myung the overwhelming favorite going into the imminent election on June 3, has seen the democratic party rally around him. In addition, the Cho-guk reform party, the Basic Income Party, and the Social Democratic party have thrown their support to Lee. All want a constitutional government, all want reform of the justice system and an end to its political abuse, and all want a return to economic prosperity.

I was amusing myself last night by listening to a youtube pundit, called Professor Kim, (Kim Kyo-soo), discuss his conspiracy theory about who is behind the continuing rolling coup. Although he speculates a lot, and is incredibly biased, sometimes he unearths historical connections among the actors that shed light on the present situation. fwiw.

The players:

Looks like the photo took place in the presidential office while Yoon was president.

Kim Jin-pyo: long time presidential policy advisor to three "liberal" administrations and long time legislator, former recent Speaker of the National Assembly 2022-2024. According to the Wikipedia, "He belongs to the more conservative wing of the liberal Democratic Party." (holding the microphone)

Yoon Seok-yeol, impeached former president who attempted a military coup on Dec. 3, 2024. Now free pending criminal trial for insurrection.

Cho Hee-dae, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, who recently attempted through unprecedented hasty moves upon review en banc of Lee Jae-myung's High Court acquittal on appeal, to derail his campaign for the presidential Office. With Cho in office as Chief Justice, it seems unlikely Yoon will ultimately be found guilty, although his guilt for insurrection is as plain as day.

Han Deok-soo, former prime minister in the Yoon administration and former acting president during Yoon's impeachment trial and vacant presidential office. After an unsuccessful attempt to impeach Han for trying to obstruct Yoon's impeachment trial, Han resigned as acting president, to run as unaffiliated independent candidate for president in the June 3 election. Han now seeks to become the "unified candidate" of the People's Power Party without having participated in the party's nomination process, and to displace the party candidate, Kim Moon-soo, who won the PPP nomination process.

This group is allegedly attempting to completely circumvent the constitutional government of South Korea, and place Han Deok-soo in the presidential office, as the proxy of Kim Jin-pyo and Yoon Seok-yeol.

So the conspiracy to overthrow the constitutional government of South Korea continues on behalf of the so called rotten special interests of the right. We know that Yoon, Han Deok-soo, and Cho Hee-dae are all complicit in the attempt to keep Lee Jae-myung from becoming president of South Korea.

Whether Kim Jin-pyo is complicit is conjecture; Kim Kyo-soo, who published the photo on his youtube channel is a conspiracy theorist, I don't believe that Moon Jae-in is involved, even though he's a very slick operator, but not dishonest like the other three snakes depicted in the photo. Kim Jin-pyo is definitely Moon-faction, in other words watermelon (DINO). If former president Moon is involved, why is he being investigated on dubious corruption charges related to his daughter and former son-in-law by current prosecutors under the caretaker administration? Just to make the democrats look like inveterate crooks after Lee's high court acquittal (the Supreme Court just reversed)? The political nature of these prosecutions is well understood now, after the bizarre action taken by Supreme Court Chief Cho, to preclude Lee from becoming president or at a minimum to stigmatize his election chances, and burden his forthcoming administration with constitutional issues. Will a President Lee Jae-myung be immune after June 3? Reportedly current polls show Lee's support up 5 percent since the Supreme Court's precipitous action, in other words 54 or 55 percent support, double digits more than Han Deok-soo or Kim Man-soo, indicating moderate voters don't like coups or a political judicial system undermining the election process. The plan basically blew up in Chief Justice Cho's face. These three men, Yoon, Han and Cho, are completely insensitive to the political winds. Clearly, former speaker Kim Jin-pyo, was the smartest guy in the room. He's been around a long time.

Former Mayor of Daegu, Hong Jun-pyo, who ran and lost in the real PPP primary for president, bluntly stated yesterday in response to these incredible developments, "Is this North Korea?" He thought Kim Moon-soo had won the primary. It is anticipated that the democratic party in the National Assembly will vote to impeach all ten supreme court justices that voted to reverse and remand Lee Jae-myung's not guilty verdict in the High Court below.

Now the bad news:

I was going to say Kim Moon-soo was no prize either. I should have checked with Simone Chun's X thread before posting. Simone also has a Counterpunch article she published on this a few days ago.

In it she cites from a Time magazine thumbnail of Lee's character:

“Nothing about Lee Jae-myung’s political rise has been easy. Born the fifth of seven children to a farming family, Lee walked 10 miles round trip to elementary school daily, and later had his wrist crushed in a pressing machine while working underage in a factory. After stints as a mayor and governor, Lee lost South Korea’s 2022 presidential election to Yoon Suk-yeol, and was stabbed in the neck two years later by a deranged critic. Now, the unlikely arc of Lee’s story seems poised to end with his becoming his country’s next leader. Lee led the charge for Yoon’s impeachment following the then President’s declaration of martial law in December, livestreaming himself climbing the National Assembly fence to bypass a police blockade to help repeal the order. As leader of South Korea’s opposition, Lee is the clear favorite to win the coming election…”

In terms of moral character, it's good against the crazy demagogues.

@soryang once has a choice between the lesser of two evils, but the judiciary says they will pick the correct evil for them, so just move along.
It happens here every so often, friend.
