Pope meets with Bernie Sanders, thanks him for addressing Vatican on the 'moral economy'

Vatican City - Pope Francis met US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders on Saturday morning before leaving for a visit to the Greek island of Lesbos, a participant at the meeting said.

Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs told Reuters that the meeting took place in the Vatican guesthouse where the pope lives and where Sanders had spent the night after addressing a Vatican conference on social justice.

And all the other blah blah blah...

Bernie wasn't invited to see the Pope, the Pope will be away, why would they invite Bernie, why would the Pope want to even talk to Bernie, etc. etc...

For anyone who may not know, the man to whom Senator Sanders extends his hand is President Evo Morales of Bolivia, a person with whom a President Sanders would find a great deal of common ground.

Funny little anecdote about Evo. After he was elected, a Mexican radio station poked fun at his attire. They took the Beetles' "Follow the Sun" (if that is the right title: refrain "Tomorrow may rain so I'll follow the sun) and set words to it. All I can recall now is the end of the refrain: "compralo un nuevo sweater" 'buy him a new sweater.' I have no link to support this claim.

Loved it! Bernie Sanders does have a heart of gold, and a will of STEEL. He is the leader we need now. I laugh when some people say he isn't "strong" enough to be President. Those people don't know Bernie!

CNN, ABC and NYT Google headlines: Bernie Sanders Says He Met With the Pope. "Says" as in well, we only have his word for it, so it may not be true.

From ABC:

Sanders was with his wife, Jane, who said Pope Francis was joined by Argentine Bishop and Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo.

You would think that if they were in doubt, they would ask the Chancellor.

"Are there pictures of this meeting with the pope, or was it behind closed doors?" Doane asked.

"Well, it was neither, but we chose not to do pictures. We didn't want anyone to think this was political," Sanders said.

"But it is political, isn't it?" Doane asked.

"No, if I was really being political, I'd be in New York City right now and not in Rome," Sanders said. "For me, the issues that the pope is talking about are issues that I've been talking about for many, many years."

Considering his old job, my jaw literally dropped when he asked about the $15/hr min wage, then played her $12/hr debate clip from Nov, proving she was lying.

When he asked Bernie about it, of course Bernie didn't call her a liar. He said she was mistaken or something like that. He's too classy, and an old school gentleman to call a liar a liar.
