Open Thread - 03-28-25 - My Mind is on Vacation
We're in the Texas Hill Country for a weekend vacation. We have no wifi so for internet connection we're using one phone for a wifi Hotspot. So to avoid running out the alloted data I'm writing this from my cell phone, with all of the constraints that entails.
I haven't had time to come up with a substantial idea for open thread, thus the title, My Mind is on Vacation.
I drove through five hours of rain yesterday. The worst part of the drive is the traffic and construction in Austin, and as fate would have it, it poured down all the way through the city. To say the least my driving skills were put to the test.
Anyway, back to my mind being on vacation and the lack of a topic for today's open thread, I'll flesh this out with some questions and let you all take it from there.
1 - Is Europe sincere in it's push for war or is a ploy to boost their dead economy by re-vitalizing their version of their MIC (military industrial complex)?
2 - Are Trump's tariffs meant to remake the US's method of bank rolling the federal budget, or are they meant to destroy the economy in an effort to implement a CBDC?
3 - Let's have some fun with this one. If you're a nonbeliever I'll ask you to suspend your beliefs just this one time:

Man, is it a pain in the butt to compose an essay on a cell phone. I'm going to need some physical therapy for my thumb. That's what I get for waiting until Friday morning to write it.

Hope y'all have a great mini-vacation! My usual helper on Friday came Wed. because of a Drs appt today. We're off to the booming metropolis of Ft Payne to visit Teddy Gentry's coin shop. I'm curious if he has some unusual commemorative silver coins. I've been stacking silver for a while.
As to your questions:
1. Europe is insane. The EU appointed bureaucracy has no interests in their people. Instead they promote the WEF globalist agenda. Germany is currently destroying their most modern coal burning power plant.
2. I wonder if the FED is a target. Wouldn't that be good to get rid of the banksters running the economy? I'm not holding my breath, I find Trump to regularly disappoint.
3. Bibi Nitwityahoo is the anti-Christ.

I've got some Silver Eagles, a few pre-1965 junk silver coins, but no commemoratives. Sounds interesting.
1 - Yeah, it does seem like Europe is the showcase for the WEF. Agreed about their leaders being insane, or bought off.
2 - It didn't end so well for the last president that talked about ending the Federal Reserve, but yeah, that would be a good thing, IMHO. Let us not forget about Trump's recital of the poem, The Snake, over the years. He was supposedly referring to immigration, but he does speak with a forked tongue, he's proven that time and again.
3 - I'll bet that will be the general conensus.

It is very cool
to see how a German group approached that text, with that tune. It is very proto-industrial- but then, that describes Propaganda to a T.
Back in the day in Boston, we played a bunch of shows with a band called November Group, which was fronted by a German lead vocalist named Anne Prim. They were Propaganda with a much harder edge, and were a lot of fun, in a very Sprockets way ("Und now, ve dance!"). Example below.
Most hilariously, at about that time I auditioned for the drumming gig with a new band called Red. It was true proto-industrial angst rock, and it had so many sharp edges that you were damned near bloody by the end of a set. It was started by two newly-arrived German brothers, and damn, it was in-your-face. Didn't get the gig, mostly because I didn't look angry enough. I think the best description of their music (beyond industrial angst) would be "musique difficile".
Oh, and the names of the two brothers? Stayfun and Ottmar Liebert. How Ottmar got from that music to becoming the Kenny G of Nouveau Flamenco guitar is best left to the imagination...

Great to hear from you! I don't know if we'll have time to drive up to Llano, we're heading back home Sunday. You've probably already surmised that we're in Fredericksburg, our usual destination, we're actually in a cabin in the hills near Hye, about 15 miles east of Fredericksburg. I won't say too much about why we came here since otc plans to expand on that tomorrow in her open thread.
The stacking festival sounds like fun. We see rock stacks here and there all over the Hill Country, heck, we see a few of them in East Texas where we live.

Been pondering
what the RWingers are doing. The roundup of foreigners seems to be almost a rehearsal of a soft state of martial law. Defocus it enough to surveil citizens legally without warrant and it becomes the "secret police", the Stasi political enemies squad, outside of existing law enforcement. Also, with picking fights among allies and hardening the border, it will become harder for US citizens to leave the US for travel. Tit for tat. Fortress America becomes containment America.
Bill Gates seems to think that within a decade AI will eliminate the majority of jobs. So, how does capitalism work when the consumer has no income? Do AI platforms play a huge version of AI Monopoly with make believe goods and services and cut out us meat puppets? Do we end up in some sort of reservation (if we're lucky)?
I have no idea about Europe, except what gets put out there. Tariffs will turn the US into a version of the old Soviet Union, long lines, shoddy goods, shortages, high prices, less choice. I go with Lucifer Musk.

If by "reservation" you mean 15 minute cities then I think you may be right.

Trump's tariffs are a disguise consumption tax. The man figures that it will all be baid by the "middle class", and he is possibly not too far wrong there. If the FED really is the target, he will find out the hard way that he returns the power of the purse to Congress, and cannot issue money by fiat.
The antichrist is a tad self-contraictory. Those who deny the divinity of Jeebus / the Christ and who will nonetheless try to step into her place. If its denialism takes root, standing in her place will be pointless, nes't ce pas? But, the assertion that Jeebus = Christ begs the question, don't it?
