Cellphone Seizures & the Courts

After years of conflicting decisions by federal district courts across the country on whether Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents can search your cell phone and laptop at ports of entry, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that, “the routine inspection and search of a traveler’s electronics, or for that matter, any other type of property, at the border may be conducted without a warrant, probable cause, or even individualized suspicion of wrongdoing.”

In reaching the decision, the court agreed with several other circuit courts, but put itself at odds with others and many (lower) federal district courts around the country.

The issue moved quickly to the Supreme Court, which upheld the Seventh Circuit’s decision this month. This is, sadly, despite the fact that the Fourth Circuit ruled earlier this year that “CBP agents need at least reasonable suspicion of a crime to search cell phones” and the Ninth Circuit agreed with that ruling.

The case this was brought by is a guy who had a conviction for child pornography and many people shrugged off the attack on his 4th Amendment right, but I think that is what made the challenge more important. It’s like people who don’t want to protect hate speech. Rights are either inalienable or they are not. I believe that they are inalienable. Period.

The “king-makers” pull the rug from Syria, yet again… A “Greek tragedy” begins

Syria has been disintegrated and pillaged in the name of ‘liberating’ Syrians from the threat of ISIS, which they – Washington – had installed in the first place.

James Jeffrey, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and Turkey, in a March 2021 interview with PBS Frontline, laid out very plainly the template for what has just happened in Syria this month:

“Syria, given its size, its strategic location, its historical importance, is the pivot point for whether [there can be] an American-managed security system in the region … And so you’ve got this general alliance that is locked in with us. But … the stress point is greatest in Syria”.

Jeffrey explained (in the 2021 interview) why the U.S. shifted its to support to Jolani and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS):

“We got Mike Pompeo to issue a waiver to allow us to give aid to HTS – I received and sent messages to HTS” -The messages coming back from HTS were: “We [HTS] want to be your friend. We’re not terrorists. We’re just fighting Assad””.

The PBS Frontline interviewer asks: The U.S. was “supporting indirectly the armed opposition”? To which Jeffrey responds:

“It was important to us that HTS not disintegrate … our policy was … was to leave HTS alone … And the fact that we haven’t targeted [HTS] ever, the fact that we have never raised our voice to the Turks about their cohabitation with them — in fact, I used this example the last time I was talking to very senior Turks – when they started bitching about this relationship we [the U.S.] have with the SDF [in eastern Syria]”.
……

“And yet, by the 2010s, even as the U.S. was ostensibly at war with al-Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan – it was secretly working with it – in Syria on a plan to overthrow Assad. The CIA spent around $1 billion per year training and arming a wide network of rebel groups to this end. As Jake Sullivan, told Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in a leaked 2012 email, “AQ [al-Qaeda] is on our side in Syria”, as Alan Macleod observes in Consortium News.

Alastair discussed this with the judge today.

@humphrey

At least for chickens the bird flu has been contained here, so I don't expect an hysteric covid response. I'm sure the agricultural department did all they could to contain it, as chickens and their by-products are essential to the industry here and internationally.

Who betrayed Nasrallah and his location? He said that only 3 people knew of it and one of them was dead.

The Syria they didn’t tell us about

Because one of the big questions that remain open is ‘who’ revealed Nasrallah’s exact location: an intelligence tracker? A spy? A paid-for piece of information? Or a traitor? The fact is that Nasrallah is no more and this, in Ram’s words, means that Lebanon will be the next to fall and Palestine, consequently, will no longer exist except in the memories of the last Arabs scattered around the world.

‘Syria fell in a matter of days because it had already fallen to the will of its rulers who had sold it out. 70,000 soldiers migrated within hours, taken in taxis (which cost a lot of money), not military vehicles, to the border with Iraq. It was all planned. Not a single bullet was fired in this invasion. This is not the Syrian army I know. This ‘thing’ is a perversion without dignity’.
…..
In concluding our conversation, which lasted about an hour, Ram ventures an almost ‘prophetic’ projection: ‘I say it: yesterday Palestine, today Syria. Tomorrow Lebanon for good. Then Yemen. Once Yemen and Lebanon have fallen, Iran will be next. In between there is nothing left, Iraq is a gas pump surrounded by American gunmen, it will fall soon. President Trump is ready to destroy Iran, the intelligence community already knows this. If Khamenei dies, Iran collapses’. A few seconds of silence. Khamenei is the last remaining ‘global’ Islamic authority and the last patron of the Resistance.

‘Then it will be Russia’s turn. Millions of Sunni Islamic immigrants in the odor of extremism are already on the streets of Russian cities. They let in indiscriminately, they will pay the consequences. Then it will be Rome’s turn. Then Beijing’s. I await the day when the ‘long beards’ will come marching into Red Square and St. Peter’s Square. I hope to die before that terrible day’.

The rapid collapse of the Syrian army seemed fishy from the onset.

@humphrey

Or one of the numerous ones I’ve read recently that says that all major players met weeks before and decided Syria’s outcome. Assad was in Russia the week before and he knew that his time was up. Check the article I posted.

In his video he says that Assad told the military to stand down.

Max talked about the Xmas tree that was burned down. I’ll post it tomorrow.

A Xmas wish

I cannot forgive the monsters among us, and I find very much to despise in our government, at so many levels. I have always heard, hate the sin, not the sinner, but even in local government, the sins of arrogance and greed and self-righteousness infect even the lowliest of bureaucrats.

Joe Biden’s staff released a massive list of pardons and clemencies, including one for the former Dixon, Illinois comptroller, Rita Crundwell, who embezzled $53 Million from the town’s taxpayers until an underling asked just the right question. When they liquidated Rita’s assets, only a tiny portion of the debt was recovered. Crundwell is the epitome of so many small town and big city bureaucrats, who use unelected power over the public checkbook to enrich themselves, without regret.

The clemency list did not include a single pardon for any whistleblowers or truthtellers imprisoned by the USG in the past 20 years. It included nothing for thousands of people rounded up through FBI and NSA geofencing for being in DC, or knowing someone who was, on January 6th, 2021. Crimes against the state are never forgiven, crimes by the state against humanity and morality are buried and forgotten.

There is talk, in this forgiveness season, of pre-emptive pardons for – you guessed it – a number of other rotten and corrupt government bureaucrats and suspected criminals, like Tony Fauci and members of Congress.

Apparently the jet was shot down soon after takeoff so how could they have acquired it so quickly? She says that we don’t usually take the blame so quickly after something happens…. I wonder if we will ever find out the truth?

@snoopydawg

Typically, drones are not anti-air weapons. In terms of anti-air missiles, which one is claimed is claimed to have shot down the F-18 shortly after takeoff? Third, this scenario contradicts the one presented in the first sputnik account posted here, which portrayed the downed aircraft as returning from a strike mission.

Africa is booting France out

As Paris was devising a new military strategy that would sharply reduce its permanent troop presence in Africa, two of its closest allies struck a double blow.

The government of Chad, considered France's most stable and loyal partner in Africa, announced on its Independence Day it was ending defense cooperation to redefine its sovereignty.

And in an interview published hours later by Le Monde, Senegal's new president said it was “obvious” that soon French soldiers wouldn't be on Senegalese soil.

“Just because the French have been here since the slavery period doesn’t mean it’s impossible to do otherwise,” President Bassirou Diomaye Faye said...
Military leaders of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso who expelled the French military have moved closer to Russia, which has mercenaries deployed across the Sahel who have been accused of abuses against civilians.

@gjohnsit that!
France treats anybody not French with a contempt that is hard to describe.
If they are so superior, let them show it without slavery in Africa.
I anxiously await the reveal.

Israeli society views the IDF as a moral army.
...
"A new commander came to us. We went out with him on the first patrol at six in the morning. He stops. There's not a soul in the streets, just a little 4-year-old boy playing in the sand in his yard. The commander suddenly starts running, grabs the boy, and breaks his arm at the elbow and his leg here. Stepped on his stomach three times and left. We all stood there with our mouths open. Looking at him in shock ... I asked the commander: "What's your story?" He told me: These kids need to be killed from the day they are born. When a commander does that, it becomes legit."

Tomorrow the world will celebrate the birth of Christ in the little town of Bethlehem which Israel has been a bombing and killing for 2 Xmas in a row while the world sits back and watches. Fcking hypocrites if they aren’t speaking out against this.

Christ wanted peace on earth and yet Christians have been killing each other since he died. And yet they celebrate his birth every fcking year! If that’s not insane I don’t know what is.
