Album of the Week 12-14-24

Afternoon folks!

There's some pretty cool stuff this week. Starting off we've got an early 70's John Lee Hooker album with some really great boogie tunes on it followed by a Stax-era Albert King album. Then it's on to blues-rock with the deluxe 3-disc version of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band's lost session - some great stuff on it. After that there's a Little Feat album and an Alvin Lee & Ten Years Later album. Finishing off, there's a folky Richard Thompson solo acoustic album.

Yeah After was way better than Later. Later was after after.

Ten Years AFter is the band that made Alvin Lee famus. After about ten years he dumped to be the only star on stage, but kept the Ten Years part of the name. Which was pretty audacious if you ask me. As one with the "Recorded Live" double on vinyl here... No Leo Lyons? No TYA.

If you see TY lalter, then know it is the new band, not the original band.

I very much enjoyed the Hooker album, which was new to me. Albert King also a favourite, especially the pinch paid off, was a treat. The mellow romanticism of Richard Thompson to finish with was very nice.

Hi Joe,

Grat stack o'disks man!

As a big Ten Years After fan, I was fairly disappointed in the solo Alvin Lee. Yes there were a bunch of great playing moments throughout. But, it really sounded thin and hollow compared to Leo Lyons and Ric Lee. TYA seemed to bring out the best in all the band. And it made something bigger than the parts. Besides the hardest core 'need blazing fingers' people I got the sense many TYA fans were not so OK with his dumping of the band. Kinda seemed so he could be the show, and just him. Yeah always some great pyrotechnic playing, but seemed to be missing something for me. Great to give it an ear after all these years...
