Friday Night Photos Zoomania Edition

Welcome to Friday Night Photos everyone. Your once a week break from the daily madness of the crazy world we live in. Post any photos, memes, music, or whatever else you find of interest that helps you escape the madness.

It's been sunny and 70s all week so I took advantage of the nice weather and went to the zoo for a few hours on Mon. and Thur. morning. It's always hit or miss on how active the animals are. Both mornings were a hit this week.

Each morning when the zoo opens they have a flyby of Macaws. This Blue and Yellow Macaw was from yesterday's flyby.

The one animal you can count on to be active all the time are the Guianan Squirrel Monkeys. They don't sit still for any length of time. You could spend hours watching them playing and chasing each other around.

As always, your portraits are very revealing of the interesting features of your subjects. I’m glad the weather and animal activity was accommodating. It’s our pleasure as well.

Sorry I don’t have more to contribute after such a long absence. I have been mostly in the magical world of two little girls. I am slowly re-entering reality, and happy to be back in your company.

Angles and curves ...

Be well all

@snoopydawg

Thank you for the nostalgic and beautiful photos from Arches.

I spent a good month camping and exploring the canyon lands of Southern Utah in 1986. My photos are all in Kodachrome sitting in a box in the cupboard.

Thank you for linking to Fred Lyon. His work is iconically West Coast in the manner of NYC contemporaries of the time.

Give Sam a hug from me.

@janis b

and I’m thankful that I did then because now it’s almost impossible to get in the park because of the traffic. During Covid everyone and their dawg came to Utah to see the parks. Arches has a ticket schedule now. I don’t know how it works cuz what if people don’t leave until dark?
And Zion is just as bad.

Sam is in hibernating mode now. She stays in bed most of the day and she wants to go home asap when we’re walking. Usually she follows me around after getting home until she gets her treats, but now she beelines to the bed.
Funny dawg.

Glad you had fun with your grand babies.

was Capitol Reef and Canyonlands, not to mention the small empty Kodachrome Park I spent a week alone (except for the ranger) in.

Save my hug until Sam reappears from hibernation ; ).

2 places I haven’t seen. And goblin valley. I drove through Zion and Kodachrome decades ago and I have no interest in seeing Zion again because of the amount of people there. I’d only go to the Grand Canyon to go river rafting… just no interest in desert type scenery. The mountains are my home.

I’ll let Sam know that she has a hug waiting. This hibernating happened over night. One day she spent her time with me and next she was in the bedroom.

Utah has a bit of everything except the ocean. The Great Lake just doesn’t do it for me because there are no waves. I got a great picture of Sam prancing in the water. I’ll find it and post it next week.

I haven’t seen much of S Utah tho. Maybe next year. I keep saying that.

Nice shot. Maybe some day I’ll go to the SLC zoo that has been upgraded quite a lot in the last decade…maybe. I have fond memories of going there as a kid. I can still smell the monkey house.

Hi all, Hey SP!

Awesome shots as always man! Great work! Love that Mandrill. What an animal that is. There are some vids of Hippos chasing people in motorboats in Africa and they are astonighly fast in the water.

I guess taxonomists need the work, but those were called Blue & Gold Macaw for a hundred years, though I see it is officially Blue & Yellow (aka Blue & Gold). Great photo of a great bird.

Thanks for the OT, and awesome shots SP! Love that song...

happy trails all!

According to one of the volunteers I was talking to the hippos can move at 20 mph in the water and 30 mph on land. Amazing how fast they can move for an animal so large.

But I have to say the Malayan Tigers are my favorite. We saved our or I should say my Tiger collection of art work from the flood. Ms So has ambivalent feelings about Tigers. It means a lot to us, that we have a couple of hand painted Tiger scrolls hanging on the wall in this otherwise non-descript apartment.

Ms. So's aunt painted this copy of 18th Century "renaissance painter" Kim Hong-do's tiger:

Whenever I mention Tigers I have to post Tiger is Coming, a Pansori/modern fusion piece by crazy LeeNalChi below.

Based on the myth of a sea turtle that called a rabbit down the mountain, for a deceptive purpose. He erroneously called the rabbit "Ho" (tiger) instead of "Do" (rabbit). As a result the sleek, powerful, tiger came down the mountain inspiring mortal fear in the sea turtle. The moral of the story I guess is don't tell lies, the Tiger might get you. There is one mistranslated word in the song: the Tigers front legs are like pillars not quivers.

Of all the big cats, tigers are my favorite. Ms So's aunt is a very talented painter. Glad you were able to save the scrolls from the flood and have a place to hang them.

I always liked it, but I had never seen the Talking heads on stage. Very animated, I see the similarity, makes me feel you may have seen LeeNalchi's stage act. I choose the Tiger is Coming video with the translation, for obvious reasons. Their stage act is wild too.

It's 38° out right now. It may get up to 70 by mid afternoon. It's the start of our storm season (not that we get a lot of storms) and there's rain in the forecast for later this week.
