think I'd freak-out if I saw one of your birds in the woods

toured the Boothbay botanical gardens the other day
many bees and butterflies, not many birds

they installed these huge trolls back in 2001
scattered among the gardens

liked this one ..

thumbnail-3.jpeg

amazing flora and fauna through-out with many trails

waterfall ..

thumbnail-4.jpeg

very lush grounds all around - ferns, moss, trees and bushes, flowers like crazy ..

Thanks for taking us to the Maine Botanical Garden. What a great looking garden. Love the trolls. A very creative use of wood.

You must be enjoying yourself in such a beautiful environment.

I miss granite, and the landscapes it defines. Water and lush forest is such a special feature of them.

Hope you find the way back to your pics. What about making two albums from the one?

but now I'm wondering if they'll limit the number of albums. They suggested a different feature that I'll have to larn about and maybe try.

Ocellated Turkey, from the Yucatan, specifically Belize. Stayed at a place named Chan Chich, had flocks of them everywhere, along with howler monkeys, oropendulas (birds), Iguanas and lots more wildlife. You fly in, though there is a road, and they are in the middle of the rainforest. They have a sign that says "It's a Jungle Out There", which is literlly true. Wink

@enhydra lutris Hey J,

Methinks that is an Ocellated Turkey. Often held in near mythical status in southern Mexico where found. Very limited range species, on many a birder;'s bucket list. Mostly a Yucatan specialty.

happy trails!

Thanks for the exotic birds. It's entertaining to see birds ruffling their feathers. What a wild looking bird the african crowned crane is. It reminded me of Phyllis Diller.

Great music and video visuals! I've never been to Burning Man, but I can easily imagine how transcendent an experience it might have been. The desert environment is the perfect backdrop.

I got a few shots of a Snowy Egret with it's feathers all ruffled that reminded my of Phyllis Diller.
The person that put together the burning man video did a great job.

Not really an exotic bird photo, but it looks to me like there is an exotic parrot in the frame.

@Socialprogressive

The tulip that's hanging reminds me of the banana passionfruit flower that I was familiar with in the mountains of Kauai. It wasn't the best tasting passionfruit, but was still tasty. It was unfortunately a pest in that environment, as it was a fast growing vine that tended to strangle native growth.

The lighting on my subjects is natural light, 99% of the time. Occasionally I play with my flashlight, but not with these.

Enjoy autumn in San Diego.

Hi all, Hey SP!

GREAT bird photos SP! Love them foreign jobs. Of all the insanely gorgeous starlings all over the world, the one we have is introduced, non-native, and a major pest for other cavity nesters. They are not introducing their best Starlings here.

The did great on the plumage of the Painted Door-Bunting, just the bill is far too large, but otherwise they did great on it!

Thanks for the OT, tune, and awesome shots man!

Rare Earth did the 20+ minute long version of Get Ready at the Ontario/Cal Jam in 1974, it was awesome.

It's a Painted-doorbird, not a Painted Door-Bunting. People often get the two confused.

Hi all,

Just a hit and run...

A buddy emailed me this pic from a couple weeks ago. I had only seen one dead one here in 20 years so far.

Io Moth, one of the smaller (2") silk moths.
Io-jr-081124.jpg

A few years ago I posted the doa one I found, showing the insane hindwing it is hiding when on wall..
io081321b-sm.jpg

Then here is an art crop from the first photo
Io-jr-081124-max.jpg
The red is the I, the eyespot, the O. Automeris io.

Io was the mortal lover of the Greek god Zeuss.

This concludes this week in silk moths.

Hope y'all are doin' well! Meltin' here.

happy trails!

Its eyes sparkle like diamonds. The crop looks like paw prints of some mysterious animal in the savannah.

If you need some watery refreshment you can always visit here.
