Friday Night Photos Zoomania Edition

Happy Friday everyone. I hope everybody is doing well. Post any photos, memes, or music you like.

I had not been to the zoo in a few months and the last time I was there I didn't photograph any animals. I only went to check out their orchid house which is only open one day a month. Needing to replace my raggedy old zoo ballcap and wanting to check out the newly refurbished hippo pool I decided it was time for a visit and stopped by for a few hours Monday morning and again yesterday morning.
You never know from one day to the next how active the animals will be. On Monday the hippos (mother and daughter) were the most active I've ever seen them, roaming about from one end of the pool to the other. Normally they spend all their time sitting at one end of the pool almost complete submerged and rarely moving.
Yesterday it was the Grizzly bears that were out and about. Normally they, along with all the other bears, spend all their time sleeping in the shade.

And here I thought I had bad dental work.
The number for the plastic surgeon is 1-800-NIPTUCK. He has a special going on right now. Buy one breast implant and get the second one free.

There were problems with running a campaign of Joy while committing a genocide? Who could have guessed?

The beauty and clarity of your photos is exceptional. The photo of the Mandrill would be a great advertisement to visit the zoo. Thank you for sharing your visits with us.

We're enjoying a whole week of perfectly clear, wintery weather. This is a photo of a Kereru (Wood Pigeon) with his head tucked in while taking a long shower in the rain a week ago. They often sit perfectly still for an average of 20-30 minutes soaking up the sun. This was the first time I saw it sitting there for as long in the rain.

Watching vinegar reduce

Enjoy the weekend all

One of the aviaries at the zoo had some Kereru's at one time. I haven't been in that aviary in a while so I'm not sure if they're still there. I went looking through my archives to see if maybe I had an image of one, but no such luck. Watching vinegar reduce looks like as much fun as watching paint dry.

Maybe the fact that they came close to being endangered, the SD Zoo adopted some. They are a big endemic bird, and were heavily hunted for food in the past. Some probably still are in some secret pockets of NZ. They are amazingly acrobatic, performing lifts and dives high in the sky. They also get easily drunk on berries and seeds, and sometimes get into accidents.

Getting good shots of the Mandrill is a challenge. They're hardly ever out where you can see them and the area where you can see them isn't very photo friendly. Lots of wire fencing and backlighting.

We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
