A 4-candidate race?--and OWS rises up for Sanders in NY

FOUR-CANDIDATE RACE: With the usual "consider the source" caveats, take a look at this zerohedge piece, positing the idea that both Sanders and Trump might, and should, run as independents:
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2016-04-13/why-arent-we-talking-about-four...

With the primary shenanigans from the DNC, and with Clinton's usual dirty politicking, Sanders might not feel obliged to throw even tepid support behind Clinton as nominee by the time of the convention. Even if he did, a significant number of his supporters would likely urge him to run as an independent. He might even be able to form a coalition with the Green Party, which will be on every ballot.

OCCUPY RISES UP FOR SANDERS: OWS just announced an impressive effort to win NY for Sanders: http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/13/politics/occupy-wall-street-bernie-sanders...

He has given voice to simmering angers muzzled since the vicious clamping down on OWS. The movement has been there, waiting. Timing is everything, and the timing just may be right now.

The 2016 Democratic National Convention will be July 25–28. I count 14 states that have general election ballot deadlines on or before July 25. There are 32 more deadlines in August, leaving very little time to organize the number of signatures needed.

The Green Party is halfway through its primary season. Jill Stein is looking like the presumptive nominee. I don't see how they would put Bernie on the ballot as the Green Party presidential candidate.

arrangement with the Greens. If the Green Party already has a spot on state ballots, anyone know if the same filing deadline applies to change the party's nominee as to add the name of an independent candidate? I'd seen that possibility suggested elsewhere. May not have been feasible.

I'm pretty sure Bernie is committed to reforming the Democratic party from the inside where as Jill thinks that we have to go outside of the 2 corporate parties to get anything done.

Beware the bullshit factories.

I like Jill Stein, and I've voted for her in the past. But Bernie built his following, and I don't agree with putting the estimable Dr. Stein first. It would not sit well with Bernie's base.

However, that said, I'd support Bernie taking her into his cabinet if she'd agree to be a part of it.

Vowing To Oppose Everything Trump Attempts.

most of my life but by following the-lesser-of-two-evils selection method have been a very reliable vote for Democrats. No more. If a candidate does not substantially represent positions that I believe in, my vote goes elsewhere or is not cast. In short, I will vote affirmitavely only.

My vote will follow Bernie this cycle for as long as he is running. Democrat, Independent, Green, he gets my vote. If Hillary takes (Notice I did not say "wins") the nomination and Bernie is not running I will not vote D on the top of the ticket. R's are nonstarters. Perhaps Green, or write in. Perhaps a blank.

I think a four way (five if you count Greens) with two additional independent candidates is very unlikely, but it is an entertaining possibility to consider.

Sanders is the heir of OWS. It is because of it that Sanders realized that he could run on what he believed the government needed to do. The people have been ready for this for the last few years. I am expecting a labor/environment/populous party to rise out of the ashes of this election year. The country is ready for a leftward change. This is more then about Sanders.

I agree. In the past, third parties didn't get much traction because

  1. the number of people willing to participate in a new party was small
  2. the parties were somewhat specialized - e.g. Green Party
  3. our electoral system offers no rewards for election losers (In a parliamentary system, a small party could win a seat or two, providing them with a base to build on)

But Bernie has attracted thousands upon thousands to his rallies, has mobilized people to participate in the campaign, and has had millions vote for him in primaries and caucuses. He has attracted activists from a variety of different causes. So for the first time in a long time, there is a broadbased, substantial number of people to start a new party with.

Obviously, the GP has a very good candidate in Jill Stein, and it would not be nice to sideline her; however if the GP wanted a chance to actually win? Put Sanders as the top of the ticked with Jill Stein as VP. That would give the GP an actual chance at the WH and a chance for JS to eventually become president.

Plus, we could see disaffected Berniecrat politicians swap to Green perhaps? And riding Bernie/Jill coattails actually get elect giving us a three party system?

Interesting to imagine.

  • Then you don't have to worry about the filing deadlines.
  • Bernie already knows how to work Congress.
  • The people who are worried about his age can chill.
  • The climate will be saved!
  • The tiny little heads of the curated media will explode because we handed them a man bites dog story.

If Sanders does join the Green party it would be beyond rude to put him at the top of the ticket. And does it actually matter? You can bet that they'd coordinate closely together in office.

One of the things I want to fix in politics is I want something resembling values in our politicians so rudeness matters to me, as does honesty, integrity, and a bunch of similar words.

A lot of wanderers in the U.S. political desert recognize that all the duopoly has to offer is a choice of mirages. Come, let us trudge towards empty expanse of sand #1, littered with the bleached bones of Deaniacs and Hope and Changers.

with a group of progressive, left, environmental, labor, and other groups marginalized or given lip service at best from both parties, esp. the Dems at election season, or the Green Party taking a prominent role in a coalition that might involve a new party arising from Sanders' campaign, not Bernie butting in on Jill Stein's long valiant efforts.

I have little if any interest in attempting to rebuild or reclaim the rotting hulk of the Democratic Party that now exists.

Cooperate well, and the Greens actually have shared ballot access with some of their candidates (after vetting, of course), when we have no candidates of our own. I'd LOVE to see a coalition of labor, Socialists, Greens, and other left groups forming a yuuge Populist Party.
