Spell checkers drive me nuts. Have to re-read everything
twice to find changed words. Ain't no AI gonna fix it.
Are you sure that's how it's spelt? Damn confusers.

The US Gaza resolution was vetoed this morning.

https://www.rfi.fr/en/international-news/20240322-russia-china-veto-us-b...

The United States, Israel's main ally which has vetoed previous ceasefire calls, put forward the resolution which for the first time would have supported "the imperative of an immediate and sustained ceasefire" and condemned the October 7 attack by Hamas.

Russia and China exercised their vetoes, Algeria also voted against and Guyana abstained. The other 11 Security Council members voted in favor, including permanent members France and Britain.

Russia's ambassador, Vasily Nebenzia, said that the United States was doing nothing to rein in Israel, mocking Washington for speaking of a ceasefire after "Gaza has been virtually wiped off the face of the Earth."

"We have observed a typical hypocritical spectacle," he said.

"The American product is exceedingly politicized, with the sole purpose being to play to voters and throw them a bone in the form of some kind of a mention of a ceasefire in Gaza," he said.

The resolution will "ensure the impunity of Israel, whose crimes are not even assessed in the draft."

The draft had stopped short of explicitly demanding that Israel immediately end its campaign in Gaza. In the delicate language of Security Council resolutions, the draft "determines" the "imperative" of an "immediate and sustained" ceasefire.

However the resolution gained the desired impact with the stenographers in the MSM with headlines like this.

Homophones are a huge problem to Korean learners, for two reasons. First the size of its vocabulary, estimated to be anywhere from 500,000 words to one million. There simply aren't enough unique sounds in the Korean language so there are a large number of homophones. As much as 60 percent of the vocabulary is derived from the Chinese language (Mandarin). The Chinese resolve this problem with tones. Mandarin is a tonal dialect. When reading Chinese it's not so much of a problem because each of the thousands of characters in common usage is unique. Korean is for all practical purposes not a tonal language. If you don't know the context within which messaging occurs, you could be easily commit a verbal blunder.

"윤석열 '대파 875원' 여파로 국힘 지지율 대파 돼" 김종대 "'박근혜 탄핵' 느낌 난다"

Yoon has obviously been campaigning during the general election campaign for representatives of the National Assembly which is illegal but pay no heed. He claims he is investigating the people's livelihood etc. He visited a vegetable store in Seocho dong and experienced a George HW Bush moment, when he observed a bag of green onions/large scallions (tae pa) allegedly on sale for 875 won (75 cents?) and said "Oh this price seems reasonable." The rapidly escalating food prices are an issue in South Korea right now even for the apolitical. The actual price of "tae pa" is about 2.50 to 3 dollars a pound or 3500 to 4000 won. This price is outrageous. So was this staged? In any case, Yoon is being lampooned in the independent media. Kim Jong-tae said Yoon's public image (face) was shattered - tae pa. Also his incumbent party, yeo pa, would suffer a great defeat - tae pa.

Yoon and Han have made a lot of enemies, even in their own party's leadership or should I say former leadership? The going to market routine was supposed to show them as men of the people, nice guys, etc. In an earlier post I can't find I showed Han shopping at a street market, bragging about a bag of produce he bought holding it up to the camera as he got in his chauffeured car. He had also brought the camera team with him to buy coffee at Starbucks which is relatively expensive in South Korea, ordinary working people can't afford it at 7000 (about 5 dollars) won a cup, ( versus 1.25 at the convenience store). Students do go before exams so they can sit for hours for 5 dollars with their books to study regarding it as fair rent for a table and chair. The truth is Han and Yoon never did their own shopping and they are both lying privileged thugs. Their PR staff is also stupid.

Anyway, Ms. So and I got a laugh out of this.

Politicians are masters at twisting words, and images of themselves. Potemkin packaging when running for office, sitting in an ivory tower post election. Mostly it seems they all go to the same school to learn that haughtiness.

it's difficult enough to write prose using homophones but making it rhyme was doubly difficult.

I had to read it out loud as well.
