Open Thread - 03-15-24 - Nomads

Q: Who turned me against the Democratic Party?
A: The Democrats.

Q: Why don't I consider myself a Republican?
A: The Republicans.

They all suck.

I've considered myself a political nomad for many years now, a stranger in a strange land.

This election season is a masterclass in mind manipulation. It's amazing how people are fired up again, about not only two of the worst candidates in history, but two of the most despicable humans to ever want the job. Not only once, but this is twice. It feels like this is a race to determine who will be the first American Dictator.

The media is to blame for the mental disconnect. They are in it for the money. It's an evil dance of quid pro quo, at our expense.

The plan is to keep people in a constant state of fear so they can't think rationally, and to vote against their own best interests.

If there ever was a year for a third party to step forward, then this is it. But...

Meh.

@usefewersyllables
are probably the fastest growing voter block in the country. That could be why we aren't allowed a truly viable candidate.

Although I consider myself a political nomad, I still view it as my civic duty to vote. So, it's a third party of some flavor, again. It's a convenient rug to sweep the disaffected under.

@JtC

had the came Calvinist thing going on- I've never missed an election since I became legal fodder. I talk a good game about not bothering, but usually end up forcing myself to do it anyway, out of guilt.

I've voted Green the last several cycles, since walking away from the dems in 2016. I'll probably end up voting Green again this time. However, my current disgust with the system and the pointlessness of it all may well see me actually fill out my ballot with a Hershey bar this time. We'll see...

@usefewersyllables has a better than average (expected) nominee in Jill Stein, but the party itself seems feckless beyond measure, divided and seemingly always stuck at 2%, with no apparent strategy to change that.

JS for her part is smart, but where was the doctor during Covid and the vaccines? Rather muted voice, certainly relative to RFK Jr and his CHD group who led the charge by the critical thinking community against the mandates. This was a huge issue, but the good doctor, from what I recall, was mostly a no-show in the public discussions. Perhaps this was bc the GP officially endorsed the covid vaccine mandates.

Did Hillary get appointed to the Boeing board?

https://babylonbee.com/news/boeing-proudly-announces-it-has-fixed-malfun...

ARLINGTON, VA — In response to mounting public criticism of its quality standards, aerospace corporation Boeing proudly announced it has fixed its malfunctioning whistleblower.

The longtime industry leader in commercial aircraft manufacturing had been in hot water following a string of highly publicized malfunctions and accidents involving its planes, leaving the company desperate to find a solution to its problems.

"That should take care of everything," a Boeing spokesman said. "After extensive investigation into the recent engineering and design quality issues, we determined that many of these problems could be traced back to this whistleblower. We are proud to announce that we have, in fact, fixed the whistleblower. Permanently."

Sometimes the Babylon Bee doesn’t read like satire. Obama’s persecution of whistleblowers sent one message. Boeing just sent another one and boy was it blatant. The latest news I heard on this was that the gun was in his hand and his finger was on the trigger. Lots of cops say that most suicides they investigated the gun was found away from the body because of the recoil. I shot a 44 once and the recoil was intense. Even being warned about it my arm shot us over my head.

Which AIPAC/MIC/pharma/bank bought politician are you going to vote for? Don’t be surprised when nothing changes.

@snoopydawg in a Dreamliner. My travel pal was so excited. They were touted as being luxurious and quiet.
Well, the windows had no shades. The sun was bright and brutal. I asked a hostess to help me out. She had the perfect fix, seemed very prepared, as though she had heard this complaint before.
She went to her station, came back with Scotch tape, and proceeded to tape the menu sheet over the window.
Nothing says great engineering and design quite like Scotch tape!
If you book a flight on a Dreamliner, you do not have to pack your own Scotch tape!

@on the cusp

since the McDonnell-Douglas merger circa 2019, which has been pretty accurately described as "McD-D buying Boeing using Boeing's own money". The merged company replaced Boeing's entire management structure with McD-D's execs, and the company has never recovered. Read https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/11/how-boeing-lost-its-be... for more info.

The 777 and 787s now have centrally-controlled LCD "shades" built into the windows, and several airlines are just leaving them opaque for the entire duration of the flight- which really annoys people who buy window seats. I have some flights coming up on Boeing hardware, including a Max 8 for one leg, and I'm none too pleased about it- but it is just a risk I'm going to have to take.

@snoopydawg the whistleblower told a close friend that if he turned up dead, it ain't suicide.

Democrats are suing to keep 3rd parties off the ballot again. Nothing says that we have to vote blue to save democracy like suing to keep voters from having a choice in who they vote for. The only thing that can make this election worse is if Hillary replaces Biden at the convention. There is no choice or lesser evil this election. Besides that never made sense to me. Evil is evil and how does one quantify it?

there is much fired up where I am in this depressing election year. Except for my interest in who my candidate RFK Jr selects as his VP. Decision to be made public Mar 26 in Oakland.

Looks like Jesse Ventura is coming up big in online discussions, especially as previous frontrunner Tulsi Gabbard seems to have done gone and drunk the MAGA koolaid, groveling for a spot on Trump's ticket in a convo w Donnie Jr.

I think the Aaron Rodgers talk is mainly about juicing the chatter to a broader audience.

Also under discussion in the past few days, tv host Mike Rowe, someone I'd never heard of, but impressive and articulate in the one CNN interview I saw.

It's a limited field of potentials for Kennedy, and there are those who will turn him down for various reasons. Right now Ventura and Rowe seem to be the frontrunners.

I am having a lot of trouble making up my mind. I keep going back and forth between Nobody and None of the Above. It is especially difficult this year. In the end I just might break down and go for Green or Peace and Freedom, because the spirit is weak.

be well and have a good one
